i hope you threw so many bites because you were demonstrating. i couldve closed that in one or two bites and in surgery or the ER (for me) time is limited
Great demo - very clear and easy to understand. Worth mentioning that it is much easier on human tissue as opposed to the practice models. Thank you for posting this video.
I am merely a cabinetmaker. Your finesse is spectacular. Surgery has a psychological impact, but by minimizing the visual scars, you make the healing process that much easier. The mind leads the body. If we don't feel like Frankenstein after the procedure, we don't feel like him. I'd swap hands with you any day m'Lady.
this video is amazing!! i had this done on a 5 inch incission accross my neck. i just really couldnt get my head around how the stitches could be under the skin. i asked my surgeon and he couldnt really be bothered to explain. its really cool how they hide the knot at the ends really impressive thanks!
I don't know if anyone agrees with me, but I hate how needle drivers have ratchets on them. If you need to clamp something, it's not hard to grab a hemostat.
need to show in zoom...we are unable to see where is needle passing? and where it is inserting in skin....layers of skin is not visible separately as it looking too far from view......
just a tip if I may. If you grab the needle with the tweezers first, and pull a little along its curvature, than you can again grab it with the needle holder. This way you won't need to touch the needle with your fingers-less chance for an accident- when reloading. It's also a lot faster and more elegant. Of course at the end of the day the result is what matters, and you had done a pretty good job there. Cheers
wow people act like you are in OR as you are performing this technique. I know if I was at home and showing a video for youtube I probably wouldn't use every sterile act possible but overall good video!!!
i love you erin shearer.....thank u so much..im a 4th year med student....im interested in surgery but no consultant seems to want to teach me how to suture..where can we get one of these skin simulators to practice on?.,.are they expensive?.
@satvinder1987 Hey, it's what I'm doing =D I bought tons of used surgical instruments off eBay and just stole sutures from school (sutures don't cost much... seriously), and I had a sheet of pliable foam similar to that located inside a mattress. Has worked for me so far...
@satvinder1987 I always practiced on pig's feet (they are juts like real human skin) and the leftovers of meat they throw away at butcher's stores. It probably looks a little too hannibal lecter, but It really helped me.
You're looking at between 200-400 USD for a good suture kit to practice your form on. Try googling suture practice kit and you should find several companies offering said kits.
@satvinder1987 med students r supposed to be resourceful and smart no? pig foot is what is used to teach students, go to your grocery store and pick one up.
Even if that's true, what does that do for her? It's not a constructive criticism and seems designed simply to hurt and hinder. As such, it is not in the spirit of love or Godliness.
Thanks for this posting! I'm a PA in the ER. I mostly use simple interrupted and mattress sutures in my practice but would like to add the subcut. for those patients who come in asking for plastics on straightforward linear cosmetic wounds.

Good technique but for this video I would have shorten the suture. She spends too much time directing & posting the excess suture.

You can buy a pig calf or some other part of the pig if you want a cheaper alternative.

@satvinder1987 I'm in México. I am a Paramedics student, And I want to know where to get that skin simulator too. Do you know?
principemx 1 year ago
@satvinder1987 Why don't you just make cuts in some foam from an old mattress or something. That's the best way to learn how to suture and it's free.
