This is an excellent demonstration of the kata. But what I'm really excited about are the example applications. These martial artists must be really talented because it is so easy to see the kata in their movements. Knowing what the movements are supposed to do gives you a whole different perspective on the kata. Thanks a lot for posting this video.
@Nvd westhuizen, im a USA Goju stylist the strike can be slow, for when its used in real combat, it will be thrown fast . lets not look at the surface but the technique. lets not get hung up on styles for we know that no matter what style one practise's if one trains harder with more intent than the other that person will have the victory. Martial arts is more spiritual than anything. i appreciate all style an systems. nasmate
if a style keeps you healthy and strong, if it helps you to improve your karate, then no one cares about the (little!) differences in style. there's just ONE karate, ne?
The strikes in goju-ryu (Shisochin) are all powerful and quick like a strike should be.
Goju-kai the first part is slow. Very strange as no strike is slow.
Just to give and indication of how big a difference... I got gold for my katas (was 19 and up, so that include Open sections of the competitions) for Shisochin. I did it exactly the same way in a Goju-kai organised competition and I did not even get bronze. Said I did it too fast. Big dif.
Goju kai might differ in some power emphasis in some katas it still is the name of a gojuryu school, the founder was a direct student of Sensei Seko Higa, who represent a more hard aproach to the style, Anyway for me therefore is no big issue if you want to say its different. What school is the real classic okinawa gojuryu?
Mr. fadugol, Goju Kai is Goju Ryu. Goju Kai is the name of the school which is one of the oldest of the style. Founded by Master Gogen "the Cat" Yamaguchi.
@chago6962 GoJu Kai is different from okinawan goju if you can tell in the technique and the motions and the power you have to put in .. but they are different
