For true HD you'll need an HD camcorder, but you can cheat when you render the video by making the resolution 1280x720. The best part about it is you can do this in Windows Movie Maker. If you have vista, you should have an HD codec on movie maker. If you have Windows XP, you should check out papajohn(dot)org. He has free codecs for rendering video in HD. Message me if you need more info.
