every gun grab ive encountered is a definate attack, ie meaning im going to end it. not push him away. it is beneficial to push his hand down retaining weapon in holster, but follow up with an arm takedown and wristlock technique and secure the attacker, not allow for more confrontation.
ever watch the ufc? i have seen guys striking like this gentleman on the video- the other guy isn't just standing there not fighting back! to make a video of techniques like this puts officers that may not know better in danger assuming that the attacker won't be able to fight back.
Hands on the gun is (to my understanding) a lethal use of force. I wouldnt go to an intermediate level tool after disengaging. I would draw my side arm. The scenario has endless "what if's" at this point.
The fancy spin of the Impact weapon was really cool though....
my concern is that you're pushing a subject away from you when he is potentially using deadly force against you by reaching for your weapon. Wouldn't it be more appropriate to secure the subject on the ground? I am in no way calling you out, I am a Defensive Tactics Instructor and simply care to share in a debate. I have found it most beneficial to secure the subjects grip with my elbow which allows me to use both hands for control. Your thoughts.
This is a great instructional vid!!!, I mean for criminals to learn how to defeat an officers retention stratagey and kill him with his own weapon.... GOOD JOB!!! I hope this info does not cause an officer his life!
hmm just thought about something else.. the guy is attacking with his right hand against another right handed person.. even though his left hand is closer to the targets gun.
now lets say the attacker either right or left handed attacks using their left hand instead.. putting your bodies more squared off? in the video the attacker looses the ability of their left hand because they're reaching across but not so if they attack with their left hand what do you do about dealing with their right?
Also, repeating the same assertion "Get back, get back, get back..." allows him to defend his actions much better if his use of force comes into question. Non-compliance against verbal commands from a police officer elevates the use of force that is condoned based on the "Use Of Force Continuum."
He is yelling to draw attention of other people that may be in the area. If a person sees the officer hitting someone in the head and then drawing another weapon without seeing the fact they went for the gun, they can lose a court case if there are no witnesses to see he was going for the officers gun. And at least by most state laws, he can draw his gun after he gets separation. He can reasonably conclude someone going for his gun is attempting to kill or do serious bodily harm to him.
The yelling is to put the person offgaurd, To try and shake them up, And it wouldn't be proper to pull a gun at a person that is simply a example, Its part of gun safety, I hope this helps!
I agree, If they are attempting to get your gun from you then that in itself justifies deadly force. If he tried once then he will likley try again. Maybe he will be sucessfull next time. Don't give him the chance.

why not just punch him in the throat or grab onto his head and stick your thumb in his eyes?, problem solved with no more what ifs variables

@hitman44139 That's exactly what I thought. The dude was trying to kill you in the first place.

@opisex
Same principle...you just spin the other way (against the elbow)

seems logical enough.. what about rear grabs?

wy does he have to yell?

i got a question. why does he have to use another weapon source when he still has the gun?
yuriogy1 2 years ago
because he really doesn't have the right to use the gun yet because his life wasnt in danger. he can only use the gun as his last resort.

im just saying, if someone is trying to steal your gun when you're arresting them, chances are he wants to harm you... therefore you're in danger :P
