  • P R E T E N T I O U S

  • Dude, my Gibson L-00 has the same type of finish, and I play it a lot, and mine looks even better and even more worn in after 4 years of use. When it comes to these nice acoustics, just play them, and they'll look worn very quickly!

  • you guys are a bunch of pussies. it's his damn guitar. let the man do what he wants with HIS guitar. i understand where a lot of you guys are coming from, but come on

  • There ought to be a law against this sort of thing.

  • Well...it's all good and true...but lets say I'm 35...to get a Strat to look like a well worn piece will take 20 years of sustained playing..even giging...not the little sessions in the bedroom 3 times a week...

So if you like the look of a well worn Strat or whatever..go for it..

I bet all of you are walking around in the "brand spanking new..starched..almost black, stiff navy Levi's..that will take 5 years to look good!

Yeah...how many of you have bought the "worn look ones"?....come on...

  • You sad misguided posers....

  • I can almost understand relicing an electric guitar but doing such a thing to a good acoustic guitar is just blasphemous.

  • I have a 1963 Gibson J50....and what these guys did doesn't even replicate finish checking as it naturally occurs. I agree with everone. Relicing is for d!cK$.

  • Relic'ing is for retards.

  • thats just ri-di-cu-lous . Stop destoying new instruments , and give them a soul by FUCKING PLAYING THEM !!!!!

  • I agree totally. Just fuckin play the shit out of them, and give it 10-15 years, then it will look better than any relic job out there. And then you will have a story on how your guitar got all those dings and dents. Not,"oh thats where I rubbed my keys, or thats where I threw a screwdriver at it!"

Fuck all that!!! Just play it.

    "LES PIK"

  • I would never do this. And I'd never mistake this kind of hacking for real weatherchecking, which btw occurs differently in Gibbies than it does in Martins because the nitrocellulose is sprayed so differently.

  • like Frank Zappa said.....

Is that a real poncho, or a sears poncho?

  • Or, is that a mexican poncho,Hhmmmm, no fooling?

"cause I am tha' slime from the videeoeo.....

  • You're a moron. In 20 years all these reliced guitar are going to be the equalivent of the Homer Forby tung oil refinishes from the 70s. What a shame.

  • I believe the best way to 'relic' a guitar is to play until it actually is a relic. No way I'm going to spray nitrous or shoot a torch at my HD 28 v. And use those tools on anyone who tried messin with my axe.

  • i use nitrous to relic my guitars too, but i use a diferent meathod. First i fill a large balloon wit nitrous, then i inhale it, then i pass out and smash my face on the guitar. I acually looks real too

  • LOL that great!!!

  • FAIL This creates spider web checking like on Cunnetto Nocasters that looks horrible and fake...Best to stick it in a freezer.

  • I own "Relic" guitars, but I would never relic them myself.

The reason why "Relics" are desirable is because some of the best new guitars like those made by boutique luthiers and custom shops are finished it that style.

They are great guitars that happen to be "Relics" not not average guitars that become great through relicing.

Relicing a guitar for its looks is stupid. Using a "Relic" because it sounds amazing is smart.

A Cunetto Nocaster looks and sounds like a Cunetto not an original.

  • man that was crap! how could u do that to a fine guitar like that! all i can say with those temperatures on the sitka solid spruce it might take it in the short term but that things days r numbered, when it could of just grown old gracefully! u should be ashamed!

  • TO: jsystevo007: I was thinking the same thing you did.....what the hell is that doing to the bracing and the glue underneath etc. I could see doing something like this on a solid body electric to age it, but looks risky to me......UNLESS....you are trying to make a bogus vintage guitar and sell it as genuine vintage.

  • it's just aging the finish. the spruce is fine. no more damage to the wood there than playing it outside on a sunny, humid day

  • I think the relicing looks good, especialy for people who want that, but how do you put the mojo into a guitar, i have a 1931 Duolian that has aged naturaly and with 77 years of playing on it,if you could put that in to it that would be good

  • well now atleast you look like your really good...

  • that was wack

  • I think that's not good for the wood and tone of an acoustic guitar

  • I would think drastically changing the temperature of an acoustic soundboard would be extremely iffy. You could just as easily seperate bracings and bindings and crack the wood as cracking the finish. But then again, I have never done it before on purpose, so maybe it works just fine. I have my doubts though.

  • wow, that looks really realistic, nearly just the same style checking that i've got on my 1937 gibson carson j. robison

  • YAWN

  • Relics, I've done my own Fender stuff but I would not recommend this. First off the construction of an acoustic guitar is fundamentally different than a solid body. DUH! An acoustic guitar's structure is very interdependent with the top and bracing the most important and with the top the finish comes into play. Any changes to these areas will compromise the tone IRREVERSIBLY! The top of the guitar is where the sound is generated from because it vibrates as a result of the stings thru the bridge

  • to 2vonranke: I agree with you, I could not have said it better than you did.

  • Why can't you people leave us alone? We don't bitch at you for keeping a guitar in pristine condition, so why bitch at us for artificially aging a new guitar? It's not your decision.

  • stupid if you ask me. anyone interested in this fake instant used b.s. should go buy themselves some lucky brand jeans with holes and scars all over them and pay 4 times the price for brand new worn out tattered jeans.

  • hahaha, how true

  • its a GIBSION why would you do that?

  • Lame. Buy an old guitar.

  • As long as it doesn't effect the functioning of the guitar, I have no problem with relicing. Sure it's superficial, but I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I do think it's nice to have a guitar that looks aged because it is aged though.

  • how retarded, never understood why people try to relic there guitar in ten minutes, nor i dont understand people who buy custom shop relics.suppose they want a looked worn guitar just for show lol, how sad, get out there and play and let yr guitar relic itself over years of playing!!!!. i see on ebay a squier thats worth £40, someone relics it and sticks a fender logo on the head and ive seen them go for £200 plus lol...suckers!!!!!

  • they do it for the same reason you or others buy guitars with the cool paint job, or great ornamentation.

looks isnt the biggest thing in a guitar acquisition, but DEFINITELY a huge part in the purchase.

they just like the way it looks.

  • these people are total idiots and have no heart to do this to a guitar (specially Gibson).

  • Many years ago I worked on the TV commercials series "Levi's 501 Blues" and one of my jobs was to distress pairs of blue jeans to look worn in. Yes, it worked for the camera, but there's nothing quite like a pair that have been broken in over time. Same goes for guitars. I highly doubt Willie Nelson trashed his guitar overnight.

  • u just purged 225.93569 horsepower on that.

  • Hi. Nice technique! Does this work on fresh lacquer that has only dried about 1 month, or does it only work on old brittle lacquer? Thanks.

  • what happened?

    i couldn't see anything

  • retarded beyond belief.i remember how horrible i felt when i put my first ding in my LP custom.that was about 20 years ago.now it looks like a relic.but its been played in clubs every weekend of its life.thats how you actually relic a guitar.just like todays pop stars are from a poularity contest on TV.this generations taste is a joke.

  • Sometimes a repair on an old guitar is required and it may come in handy to know this technique.

  • Nitrous Oxide is just plain stupid. There are cheaper and for less dangerous ways to do that. Like icing spray used for detect problems on circum boards.

  • I cannot stop thinking about this.

    That is a $2000 guitar.

How much is the player actually going to pay to get a guitar with 20-30 years of it's lifetime burned away ?

What happens to an artificiially aged top when it really gets old ?

  • @jimashtube I have a J-50 I bought for 5 dollars that I found in the back of a second hand store extremely relic'd, I wish i could have traded these idiots.

  • This is just stupid.

And used to be considered fakery.

Now it's just ruining new guitars for fashion's sake.

I wonder what their cars look like ?

  • why anyone would want to distroy the finish on their instrument I will never know

  • If the video does not do justice the the fine checking (cant even see anything) why post it?
