What does Ulani mean in Polish? In Hawaiian it means "feeling heavenly" ....

Ulani is in latin alphabet, in polish is Ułani - it's sort of army, soldiers on horses.

My Grandpa took part in Warsaw Uprising. I have is medals.

My dad is Jan Pirog, look him up, Jan Pirog Polish solider on google to see his site. He was in the cavalry and this is one of the songs he still sings. The ladies loved a Ulan ( cavalry man). They were picked then as S.A.S are now, only the cream of fighting men. He is 88 years old was in 1st armoured and virtuti militari

Thank you so much. Jan died on August 30th and was buried 14th September just a few weeks ago. I miss him so very much. Can I ask where you got the information on my father from ? I want to pass his medals and history onto a decent Polish museum or Sikorski institute. Do you have any ideas ?

I read on some point a book by Evan McGilvray, The Black Devils' march and Your Father was one of mentioned soldiers and his decorations were listed at the end, too.

About Museum.

I would suggest Polish Armii Museum in Warsaw or new Museum of WWII. Please contact them and see what they say.

Polish army Museum is a bit outdated and needs to be modernised but they do display soldiers awards.

The latter one is a new one or is being build right now and judging by other museum (waesaw Uprising Museum) I hope it will be something grand. Your father deserves a place in any of them.

Sikorski Institute is a very small place and they might not be able to display a new material but who knows...
