I thought the girl who says that they've "come to see him," 01.42 was the woman who played Ruby, in Lark Rise To Candleford, but as Victoria Hamilton wasn't born until 1971, obviously it isn't. But she certainly could be a relative
Great film classic British Film, what an innocent world then and the scenery looks pristine an England sadly long since gone, great performance all round by children and adults, Alan Bates and Haley mills gave a great performance
@matthew3alex Oh yes she was great too but my favourite when I first saw the film and every time since is Alan Barnes. He's got such a cute face and I love the broad Lancs accent as well. :)
my mum used to watch this movie all the time too, and I grew up watching it too, it's one of our favorite films :-) everyone back then wore their welly boots!
This is one of my Mums favourite films and it used to be the only video we had as children so we watched it over and over, 25 years later and i still know all the classic lines and it fills my heart up ...... This scene brings back so many memories, thank you so much for posting it :o)

How handsome was Alan Bates (who played the role of Bette Midler's manager in The Rose) as a young man.

"It's you! You told them!"
"No I didn't, I only told Jackie Greenwood."
"You told them? I thought I told you not to tell anybody."
"I didn't tell anybody, I only told Jackie."

Some cute lines. Only an innocent child would say "Put it up your jumper" which plays on a slang term of the time "shove it up your jumper".
When I was a kid I thought Haley Mills was American because she had blonde well-kept hair and she was cute.

Isn't she American now? Or does she still live in England?
