I was like L-25 astronomical units from the stage.I don't think i ever left my backyard across the street from the polo fields that day.Didn`t a helicopter drop roses from the air or something?
Not quite so. The Dead had a relatively - for their standards - short set in Woodstock. Trouble was that they had to reload their gear after it cracked a part of the stage (but Owsley had warned the organizers) and then there was a lack of electricity too.
My favorite band is Creedence , and we they play in Woodstock they play in the midnight beacause the group plays before CCR plays more than he have to play , this group was Grateful Dead
The free event in Golden Gate Park was a tribute to rock promoter Bill Graham, who had recently died tragically in a helicopter accident. The amazing groups of musicians and other entertainers, and the 100,000++ crowd who showed up on short notice were a fitting testimony to Graham's tremendous contributions to the great Bay Area music scene. A DC-3 passed slowly over the field that day, while people in the plane dropped thousands of carnations onto the crowd. A bittersweet farewell.
Over 1.25m people attended. Dead and Fogerty stole the day, Santana was smokin' hot and Tracy Chapman was a downer. SF comic did a William Shatner/trek and Peter Falk/Columbo sketch too? (not robin williams)
@13times Actually 300,000+ attended and it was PACKED! I don't think you could fit 1.25m in GG Park. I was there too, don't remember another comic besides Robin Williams--any idea who that would have been?
As I recall this was the Bill Graham Memorial. Must have been at least half a million or a million other people there with me. Quite the day, sad though it was. Artists: Grateful Dead Santana Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young Journey John Fogerty John Popper Dirty Dozen Brass Band Bobby McFerrin Jackson Browne Joe Satriani Aaron Neville & Chester Thompson Tracy Chapman Robin Williams
Fogerty sounds good with the Dead
