I'm American and I can't stand our replica of Top Gear. There is only one Top Gear and it doesn't involve a fat guy with hipster glasses and a shitty beard.
1) Poor writing. Face it, us Americans write shit for comedy. Watching this, I can juts imagine what the UK hosts would say that nobody here says...
2) Bad hosts. They can't act, they're kind of lame... Tanner is kind of a weenie too.
3) Trying too hard to be UK. I imagine this is because they figured anyone who would watch Top Gear already knew of the UK one... but seriously? Bear belt? You're not James May, make your own character.
The problem is that the UK Top Gear has had a lot of time to mature and refine the entire thing... even after the relaunch in 2002 it was pretty dull (pre-Hammond). The three presenters have had a long time to develop their characters and it doesn't hurt that British humor is their best export. I agree that the US needs a Top Gear, but these people they picked have no rapport, it feels so stiff, whereas the UK Top Gear looks unscripted because they're so comfortable in their roles...
2002 I bought a F-250 Ford Diesel. Had 489 miles on it. 35 X 12.5 BF Goodridge tires were on it! Raised 4'' in front and 3" rear. I used it to haul a 5,000 lb gooseneck trailer. In 2005, I retired the truck with 489,767 miles on it! I put over 100,000 miles on 4 sets of tires. The tires were worn out when I did change them, but, man that was a lot of miles for each set!! The truck broke down one time in North Dakota. Relay went out for the glow plugs, ran on six cylinders until I replaced it.

I watch Top Gear UK 40% for the cars, and 60% for the hosts. I just don't think the US presenters are as funny. The UK hosts are all foils to each other along with being funny, as well. The dialogue feels like it was written for them instead of by them. In fairness. I'm sure this is a perfectly good, and perhaps very entertaining motoring show, motoring show. And I'm sure that these guys are perfectly good at what they do... but surely half the appeal of Top Gear is the interaction between Clarkson, Hammond and may, and that without that, it's something else.
It's a bit like if some up-and-coming American comedians were to do a programme and decided to call it the Morecambe and Wise show.

TGUS season 2 is far superior to TGUK season 2.

P.S I did give it a chance. I watched one of their challenges (I know, I know, not a whole lot, but still, I gave their overall taste of how the products is, how the presenters go, etc a chance) and honestly, I stopped watching around the 9 minutes mark of this video.....

Last thing, in this video, they made out like the Heliux was a shitty someone will need if their truck broke. They don't need to to progress to realize the Heliux is better than their trucks just because its a Japanese make. And I'm sure that these guys are perfectly good at what they do... but surely half the appeal of Top Gear is the interaction between Clarkson, Hammond and may, and that without that, it's something else.
It's a bit like if some up-and-coming American comedians were to do a programme and decided to call it the Morecambe and Wise show.

@SiloNova25 Have you bothered to watch the last two seasons of TGUK? The only good episode was the hot hatchback episode in Monaco. The rest were all awful (and I am a TGUK fan). The US version is far better than UK if you compare season to season. Remember when Jason was a TGUK host, and the audience was only 10 people from the Subaru Owner's club? TGUS season 2 is far superior to TGUK season 2.

Don't you the excuse that "it will get better, its still young." Its well produced as you can see by the clips, but if its going to get better, then they need to get better presenters. Those presenters they have now have zero charisma, zero chemistry, and crude jokes. They act too much like they want to be like the trio of Hammond, May and Clarkson.
I'll give them a chance when they find uniqueness, or are fired.

@SiloNova25 So you are taught to hate anything American? I don't hate anyone for their accent. Anyway, I find the jokes to be clever, not crude. That may have to do with my being raised in America--those are the types of jokes we tell. British humor is a more light-hearted banter.
Just compare season 1 and 2 of TGUS. They have made leaps and bounds in terms of chemistry. You'd have to be truly ignorant to deny that.

(continued)... I just couldn't take any more. For me, it was simply too unbearable (their silent cricket jokes ruined what could have been quite a good challenge with the trucks going up that sand ramp and what not).

Ah, one last thing. I'm all for giving shows a chance. Hell, I always pick the underdog over the one on top. Top Gear UK is one of the few I make acception's for, because even though they're on top, they don't slack off with production values just because they have, say, no competition, or just because its just that, again, they're on top of the world.

They don't need to to progress to realize the Heliux is better than their trucks just because its a Japanese make.
