So cute! My big dachshund actually perked up when he heard this (rare). BTW, my dog is the same size and I have it from 2 vets he is not overweight. Seems that the original D's are badger hunters and are supposed to have heft. The new mini's are adorable but not like the King Dachshunds, who can handle wild boar too. Most all dogs are perfect anyway. :)
Sometimes Dachshunds just get obese in older age...they are prone to many diseases and retinal degeneration which makes them very difficult to exercise. I used to get so mad when people would come over and comment on my dog's weight and I would be like "I would love to walk her but she's blind and going outside scares her."
On a more serious note, your dog is obese...dachshunds should NEVER be that fat, as it's bad for their backs. Apologies if you've already tried to fix this. But if not, put him on a diet and get him exercising! :)
