  • I know that I miss the way YTV used to be vs the way that it is now.

  • Oddball that only a quarter of the shows shown in the promo came to YTV in '88.

  • I also miss the old YTV. It's just not what it used to be anymore.

  • I remember I was so stoked when I heard about this station going on the air! I think they were saying back then that it'd be a temporary thing, and then one day they said that YTV was here to stay, and I was SUPER stoked! Anyway...

  • @snatchface420 the fact you spelled geniuses wrong is not helping you

  • Man I sure miss YTV programs like Take Part, Camp Caraboo, etc.

  • WOW! YTV has been on the air for 22 years & counting! I remember that promo when I saw it in tv. There were alot of good shows on too. Good memories. :)

  • WHA????....com' on dude...AVENGERS ,THE CLONE WARS,...hopefully YOUNG JUSTICE soon....and YTV have some cool show's...but your right ....I meant to say FAMILY CHANNEL....oops...

  • YTV is GREAT for teen show's...,but lack's the cartoon appeal these day's!!

    Teletoon kick's with most toon's these day's!!!

...CAN'T DO THAT ON TV...that show rocked!!

  • @ZOMb2010 are you kidding ytv has the worst teen shows ever and teletooon is worse their cartoons suck dick

  • I hate YTV now, it's sooooo lame and boring, and the most highest rated show in YTV history was strangely Inuyasha :S.

  • I can remember watching this promo over and over, along with the timer counting down to YTV's inauguration. I remember the "PJ"s and how they would basically try their best to kill time in between shows. I'll agree it had it's charm back then, although I like what they did c 1994 with PJ Phil and the Grogs.

  • Only 18 hours a day...then what did they do with the other 6 hours of the day? They cant shut off the channel when it was the 6 unused hours.

  • @iSquishy89 Actually they could. The channel would shut down in the middle of the night (2 or 3 I believe), and would get the test pattern until early in the morning when the channel would start up again for another day.

  • @FSinWCR And how long did they do that for?

  • @iSquishy89 From at least until the mid 2000's. Actually, most channels did (CBC, CTV, most Canadian channels)

  • there's alot more commercials now

  • Pre-Pokemon = YTV most awsome TV Station ever created

Post-Pokemon = YTV is just another 2 second stopover on your journey to find something good on

  • Nothing beats the PJ Fresh Phil era!

  • wow, so this is how YTV started off 10 years before I was born

back when there was good sitcoms and anime all the time

just a bit after sugar left it became crap

  • WHAT HAPPENED it got SOOO GAY!!! :(

  • wow, so this is how YTV began. : )

  • 2:07 Nancy Ryan = Hot.

  • Also Course Entertainment took over in 1998. Now YTV today is just dumb.

  • @chaofreak8

Nope....things were more structered back then in Canadian TV. All those teen sitcoms on YTV now would not have been allowed to air on the network back then due to higher intellectual quality standards for programming. =P

  • @RonicW

Intellectual quality standards? Are we talking about the same YTV that used to air Big Bad Beetleborgs?

  • Yep...Bonanza was on YTV for about 3 years.

Unfortunately, it was forced off YTV for good in 1991 because the character of Little Joe, played by Michael Landon, turned 19. The CRTC rules back then demanded that no characters north of 18 in age were allowed to be seen on the network.

It was just part of CRTC/YTV rules back then. =P

  • No anime!!! Those were the days...sigh

  • @KristaDawn1985

Maple Town was one, it was at 1:33 min.

  • 1:33 thats ytvs first anime lol

  • it only started getting good in 1999 when corus took over and they added nick shows

  • oh yea. now its lame

  • no anime? i think id kill myself

  • i miss the old ytv

  • I was'nt even born yet.

  • me neither

  • Did you know that September 1 in 1988 was on Tuesday?

  • REALLYY! OMG! lol

  • canada's answer to nickelodeon

  • omfg it used to look so stupid

  • i miss old school ytv :(

  • @theeuprise I feel you, bro. YTV completely sold out. Now it's completely under the control of that chick from Icarly. Damn!! R.I.P YTV...

  • lol

    Tickle on the tum

    xD

  • i miss ytv dude. it has totally changed

  • Yeah they really worked hard at whoring the station for all it was worth and now it's not worth as much as it was.

  • agreed

  • Before the anime invasion. Wow.

  • I miss Saturday Morning

  • anime invasion blew my mind more action!, naruto ftw!

  • @wishingstar22 SHUT UP! Anime rocks! well the ones that haven't been dubbed by 4kids anyways.

  • @blukinoseXD I like anime too, in moderation. But I miss the shows that I watched on YTV as a child.

  • @wishingstar22 oh ok yah i wasn't even born he when this came out. at least i was around for sailor moon.

  • this is the ytv ive never seen!

  • September "One" lol.. isn't it "First"

  • HOLY FUCK ----CIRCUS!!!!! I completely forgot that existed!!!!! ---crap, that memory has been in there for almsot 20 years!!! I am tripping out

  • Amazing! I have not seen any images from that show in YEARS - until now! Loved watching that show with my parents when i was a kid.

  • Why can't YTV be like this? Nowadays, YTV just appeals to kids to teens. At least, I THINK.

  • Ya you are right about YTV

  • and it starts sept ONE:| LOL its sept 1st...only on tv LOL

  • OoO iT WAS AROUND 1988 ?!

  • I was born the following year, so I was fucking set.

I remember when I was very, very young yelling at my mom who was gardening out in the back asking her what channel YTV was on

  • CAN SOMEONE PUT FREAKY STORIES?

  • Aw, (((who))) has "Just Like Mom" and "Yes, You Can"? Old, old skool YTV and Marie-Soleil (sp?). Older fare like 'Home & Away' was okay. I got a homemade DVD of "You Can't Do That On Television", 9 eps from Barth's Burgery site.

  • So you're a "jenyus", huh?

  • so this is how ytv started

  • i was born 1988

  • and also I dont now haw they can say "September 1" and not "September 1st" Weird eh?

  • Your Kidding, 8 minutes per hour is amazing compared to YTV now, On YTV now you see more commercials than shows. YTV used to be my favourite channel back in 2001 and 2000 those years, I hate what YTV had become!

  • its because of programming standards... if you remember, also, way way back in donkey kong years, between shows and such, they'd show their ytv bumpers, or the "short circuitz" 3d animations... it was because most of the programs had been edited for durations of 12 mins/hr of commercials... so about 6ish commercials per show if each show were 30 mins... meaning each episode was about 22 and abit minutes long... and im rambling... but blame the CRTC, not YTV... same on any CDN tv channel/ network

  • i dont remember the 90s im 11 now so bt still in 200 it ws better sill

  • I dont totally agree on you about cartoons from japan. i like some anime shows like Death Note, InuYasha, and the Gundam series. But I do miss watching YTV back in the 90's. My favorite shows would be Goosebumps, Uh-Oh, Hey Arnold and Stick'n Around. :D

  • I got you guys beat! I was 12. :)

  • No one remembers The Kangazoo Club Anymore!!!!

  • I do but I was too old for it.

  • OMG 11 days later, I was born xP

  • ytv is the cartoon network and nickaloden of canada!my mom got it 4 me when it first came out! as a kid! it brings back memories!

  • I was almost 12 when it came out. This is the part that I miss most about YTV. Now it's just shit 24 hours out of the day. :p

  • Wow just freakin wow I was three when this was first out

  • im so happy i was not alive at that time

  • Why? YTV was better back then than it is now.

  • most of the shows featured on that promo sucked ass lol

  • at least now they do. but captain flamingo is good. you americans get nick!

  • If only YTV were still like that... but it sucks today. To see what I mean, watch my Fake Deleted Scene on ZAPX video.

  • i know! its bullshit

  • It's coincidental that at approx 2:30 in this clip YTV mentions Follyfoot, a show that was made by UK broadcaster YTV.

  • and that sooooo tru

  • its changed sooooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • They also started playing the Aussie soap Home & Away at night this summer as well. I'm pretty sure they started right from the start, and they weren't too far from they were in it's native country. A shame they didn't keep it up. Instead, they axed it in favor of horrible Brit-coms that nobody watched, ever.

  • HOly shit.

I remember this. This is the summer that it went to air.

Blue Rodeo, John Candy and other Canadian celebs kicked off with an opening gala of sorts.

Thanks for posting this. It's just what I was looking for.

  • Lol that sucks, just like YTV today. YTV was cool from about 1992-2000. Thanks for this.

  • The only shows on the whole of that network that were yanked were Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and that's only because a bunch of lunatic teachers and parents groups believed that those two shows were inciting aggressive behaviours in young children.

Only if you sub-consienously let your TV be a parent to your child does TV ever become disruptive.

  • ya I know eh an now look at the shows they got on it now like Bleach and Ghost in the Shell lol all those bloody Animes

  • Wow! What a long time ago! I didn't get YTV until 1992 but I did get a couple of programs on tape, including an almost-complete episode of the rarely-seen-in-reruns ABC series "That's Incredible". (And ABC aired a reunion special a few years ago with Fran Tarkenton, Cathy Lee Crosby, and John Davidson.)

I bet you can say the same thing to other cable channels that have been around more than 15-20 years: they just don't look the same anymore. Those were the days!

  • YTV totally needs to bring back Bonanza into its lineup.

  • Bring on Lois Walker

  • Lois Walker??? I say bring on Helen Lumby!

  • Thanks for this, it's awesome!

  • I'm sorry, But this was probably exciting to kids in the 80's, but if I woud have been watching YTV as a kid, I think I would have fallen asleep. I don't mean to be rude,( and I know I am)but it just seems out of place to me, being a 90's kid and all.

  • Yeah well, YTV now is barely watchable. It used to be for kids and now it's got all of this brainless bullshit on that nobody with half-a brain would even care about.

  • Are you kidding me potterizeme? YTV was the only network that I would have even bothered watching as a kid since some of the U.S. networks had barely anything that was even worth watching.

Now it's all garbage designed to fill kid's heads with whatever happens to be popular.

  • I read that Bonanza got yanked from YTV when a character turned 18, which was a violation of a CRTC policy for the channel...

  • What?! Where did you read that?

  • Can someone find clips from "Circus"?

  • This was really cool to see

  • Some of the programming mentioned, like Swalk and Boy Domenic, never aired.
