  • Phil Kelly write more codices please.

  • I'd love to do some sight seeing in Commoragh, the Dark Eldar can be very welcoming so I hear...

  • Phil Kelly=God

  • Oh right. Cool. Very interesting. Now make some Squat models please.

  • Phill Kelly has a Halo T shirt on wonder if Halo is an influence of 40K

  • @camau79 Don't you mean that you wonder if Warhammer 40,000 was the influence of the Halo series. I don't belive that Halo was around in the early 1980s...

  • @camau79 no he doesnt

  • This is awesome, more just like this please!

  • Warhammer lore fascinates me. I think it's pretty cool how these guys can pretty much tell you everything about it.

  • Dark Eldar background summary Part 1 - Archon Moron attempts to backstab Asdrubael Vect. Vect kills him by dropping a space hulk filled with genestealers strapped to vortex grenades that teleport you to a demon world.

Part 2 - Asdrubael Vect says "Just as planned"

    Repeat repeat repeat :p

  • I always liked to think of dark eldar as space pirates. Reminds me of pirates of the caribbean with that soul-sucking slaanesh fate and the cursed gold stuff

  • I like to think that these videos are captioned by an autistic, blind chimpanzee chained in a closet. The chimp has had too much coffee and needs to pee.

  • Good job guys...good job

  • Kinda feel games workshop is like the eldar.

too arrogant to see how expensive their mini's are and to change it.

Cmon GW I knew 8 people and 6 of them who knew what warhammer was didnt want to do it because of the high prices :(

  • Those are some f*cked subtitles.. Great video though - would love to see some more with Greats like Mr Goodwin discussing the 40K universe!

  • Is it just me or does Jes have an awesome voice (I'm now hearing his voice when reading Ciaphas Cain novels)

  • Phil Kelly, wewt!!!! Best Codex's ever....Orkz and Dark Eldar :P

  • i just got the new dark eldar codex today i complety love reading so much detail and variety briliant : D

  • I don't play 40k and I normally prefer pure fantasy to sci-fi fantasy but this is excellent. Just a great watch and these guys are truly interesting....also, the new minis are so good I might have to buy some and try to find some way to use em in fantasy...wych shades anyone? :P

  • @Retribution83 well... dark eldar ARE future dark elves :p

  • WOW! seriously awesome to see phil and jes and adam. thank you so much, i love your work. you just made wyrm's dark eldar army in philadelphia very formidable indeed. i am slightly afraid. cheers!

  • 3 Words: Comorragh Hot Pocket

  • I had no idea GW had a YT channel... why was I not informed?! ;)

Great stuff, good fun to hear (and see?) the chaps talking about the creative process; I've always enjoyed reading similar articles in WD, as it's enlightening to get the "directors commentary" on what went into the new books (and models).

I've yet to see the book, but trust Mr. Kelly to be a safe pair of hands; Jes, fantastic work as ever!

  • For some reason I think they forgot to touch up on the fact that Dark Eldar have an unquenchable thirst for soul essence to stop there soul from slipping away faster?

  • Really great :-D i love you guys and your efforts.

  • "The Eldar were getting up to all kinds of lustful depravity and that echoed in the Warp"

If this happened to the Eldar civilisation because of the Dark Eldar then heaven help us when the warp catches up with us... in one word... Blackpool! lol.

  • @CJLinton lol excactly!!! there is already hints that humanity is going down that path :P but there isnt many more emotion that a god can be born with, except sadness, depression ect and a god of depression! ouch lol

  • Phil you look tired man!

  • Dark eldar were my first army. I always said to my friends that they were the most interesting army of 40k. But the background that had previously been given was rubbish (along with the models).

Finally, they have sorted it out, great looking new models and the background has been done properly and will get people interested in them.

Maybe now there will be booksabout them too.

  • Hi GW , any chance of Dark Eldars having a Battle Force? It would be so nice ^^

  • Awesome vid! Its great to see GW being a bit more active on the net. Keep the vids coming. It would be good to see vids of advance order products (once they are advertised as such).

    Cheers

  • What does the scanner say about his side burn level ?

    iTS OVER 90000!

  • Excellent work and really fascinating discussion. I love seeing this sort of thing and hope to see a lot more of these. This discussion has got me interested in picking up the codex just for the read.

    Keep it up.

  • These videos make me want to paint 400 Space M--I mean Dark Eldar right now. Keep it up GW, this is awesome.

  • Is it just me, or does Phil Kelly look like a Dark Eldar? :O

  • @Lanparth at the very least like tim curry XD

  • I don't even play Warhammer and found this very interesting. lol

  • this is awesome, Please make more of these types of Vids, thanks GW

  • I am dying to see more of this video series. Finally GW reaches out to fans and gives us something tangible and interesting regarding the new codex. I hope to hear more about the developmental end of things and how the DE came back after a 10-12 year hiatus!

  • I loved seeing this.

    And the more the better!

Doesn't matter who it's on or anything I love to see the game through the eyes of the designer.

  • We need to see more of this type of thing from you guys, thanks for sharing.

  • i want Phil kelly's vocabulary.

  • Cant you guys get them to talk about the development side? You know, why they designed the units how they did, where do they see the army in the meta game/tournaments. Where the ideas of the looks cam from and all that jazz.

And someone tell Phil to shorten the sideburns they don’t suite him one bit.

Oh and thanks Phil for not letting rune/wolf priests not having thunderwolf mounts and not letting iron priest be IC...

  • Yea! This is the kind of video I've been waiting for! This is the part of GW that I still respect! Great video guys, I love all this stuff.

  • when he strokes his chin, u see a "masterbrain" at work! AWESOME

  • Is that a Triple H shirt I see on Adam? I think I can remember a pic of him in a White Dwarf, wearing a red shirt from Chris Jericho. Wrestling & Warhammer, an unbeatable combination. :)

  • Okay, first of all, GW folks, I love this video, if you make others like it about fluff or even the game itself I'll subscribe in a heartbeat!

Phil and Jes.... Why aren't you two chaos gods yet? Seriously though, I want you guys to make the next Dark Angels or (preferably) Chaos Space Marines codex! You two are the best, I'd kill for that!

  • @rokstoned hell yes, chaos space marines, wow could you imagine?

  • @purgethewaek501 Whenever I look at the chaos warriors fantasy book I know he'd do us justice for once.

  • @rokstoned Yea the rules would be crazy and deamonic lol that would awesome.

  • @rokstoned

    Grey Knights *cough* *cough*

  • Great video, I hope there're more like it in the works :D.

  • Its good to see how creative you guys are. Shaa-dom and Comorragh. Can't see any real life link with that.

  • Great video, I hope there're more like it in the works :D.

  • More of these kind of videos please, GW! I can't help but look at the name in the picture of the third video down in the suggestions column ;-) If you could do one video a week, like a vlog, about hobby stuff - NOT blatant product promoting or advertising - then I'd be a happy Sphess Meren. Like a "GamesWorkshopVlog" channel or something.

  • so it is pronounced like "Gomorrah", quite fitting

and its great to see eloquent people telling the story

i always get mixed up trying to explain things to folks

  • awsome vid!! can't wait to next one :)

  • Cool! Can the next update be for the future of the Squats?

  • More of these kind of videos please, GW! • GW should do more on Youtube... seriously!

  • This is what GW should be doing!!! Great stuff!

  • This is the type of video we want from Games Workshop. Backstory of the various powers. Secrets reveiled (how the Dark Eldar escaped -- those in the webway were not destroyed; how Chemora {sp?} was created; etc.)!

    Thank you very much!!!

  • @Rlyehable Chamorragh ^^.

  • I've got my actual physical DE codex; and it's brilliant. Not only has Phil written a really tight set of rules with a fantastic background section; but he's snuck references to The Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy in here. I'm half expecting the Webway to function using Bistro-Mathematics.

I won't go on about the power level and cheese combinations because I honestly don't care about that sort of thing. Jes' Sculpts + Great background = Me playing something other than Fantasy for once!

  • How did you get your codex already?

It is realeased saturday 6th november.

  • at last! GW entering this medium of connecting with us lot! welldone more please.

  • Fantastic stuff, can't wait for part 2!

  • I'd rather see stuff like this than silly shots of still and music. Y'know, actually sitting down with designers and sculptors and asking them questions and getting into details. This is what I and many other warhams would like to see rather than just advertisement.

  • nice work

  • As always, Phil is very well spoken, but crikey does he babble on! Prolixity and loquaciousness combined!

  • Good stuff GW. Adam Troke seems a bit nervous though. Is it the camera and being on youtube? Relax a bit, have a laugh. Sure there's going to be people taking a piss, it's the internet, but most of us enjoy these videos.

I'd preferred a bit more info really, as this is 10 minutes of talking about the fall and the city instead of the colorful characters and cults that are part of the Dark Eldar. Still, thanks for making this and I hope to see more.

  • Bravo! I'm waiting eagerly for the next video.

  • Spiffing use of the net in providing a different platform for info.

  • Just got the White Dwarf and the new models look FANTASTIC (especially the mandrakes, i can see my first ever unit of those sneaky sods infiltrating my army list - excuse the pun...). One question though - why did you put those funny sails on the raiders/ravagers?

  • @ratty522 isnt it part of an upgrade? also gives them a eastern esquee atilla the hun feel

  • Can we see more please! This is great stuff and certainly worth seeing!

  • Love hearing the input from the guys who made this codex possible! good job GW!

  • DE are great guys - fantastic job. I'm rather shocked GW made a real YouTube video though!

  • Phil´s voice reminds me of Tom Baker and i don´t know why :D

  • why were my comments about matt ward removed? Cencorship? And I thought this video made Games Workshop look friendly, nice and approachable. Clearly I was lulled into a false image.

  • If the Eldar had Internet the whole galaxy would be one big eye of terror.

  • Please, for the love of god don't stop making videos like this, can't wait for part 2 and I hope to see videos about other armies.

  • Heh. Loved the "telephone sanitation engineer" crack. Douglas Adams FTW.

  • I think it's great that you've opened yourself up like this and show the processes and people behind the books.

It shows that it's a game for gamers by gamers, not a faceless, evil corporation.

  • Great vid, very interesting, please do more, I think I'll get the codex even if I can't afford starting an army. Phil writes the best books in my opinion.

  • Please show us close ups of the new models :).

  • This is EXACTLY the types of videos I'm interested in seeing. Good job GW, keep it up, and I'm hoping to see a lot more.

  • its good that they did a video like this. However it would also be good if they did this for future armies who are getting updated and re-released and also the global campaigns. I find that when they "will affect the warhammer world" they never do.

  • Phil's head movements are mesmorising. He's like a stork, craning his head over for emphasis, bulging his eyes out and staring deeply in the hosts soul.

Phil knows much on the nature of souls... his voodoo will get yours too, if you stare long enough at him on screen

  • cool vid ^^

  • Nice. I was not sure whether or not to start Tau or Dark Eldar. I liked tau background and loved dark eldar models. Now I love dark eldar background and dark eldar models. thanks guys.

  • my next 40k army definitely

  • this is epic! Phil is the best Codex writer ever!

  • Yeah, after the invention of the "bee dildo" the eldar decided to take a cold shower.

  • Too entranced by Phil Kelly's awesome sideburns to pay full attention to what they're talking about.

  • Looking forward to part 2.

  • looking forward to part 2 :D

  • ha, loved the Hitchhikers reference.

  • Give us Part 2! The Chaos Gods wish to see part 2 so that their subjects may understand better ways to slay these foul creatures! :P

  • Fantastic stuff! Can't wait for the next one!

  • @NjC121

Keep checking back, as we will add a new video every day this week, as Phil, Jes and Adam delve deeper into the background of the Dark Eldar!

  • @GamesWorkshopStudio I think CSM needs an update next

  • @GamesWorkshopStudio Thank you ;)

  • @GamesWorkshopStudio Is there any way to get to Commoragh?

  • @MrIlive4metal Yes. Being taken alive as a slave :P

  • @ayemeharty thanks

  • @MrIlive4metal One does not simply walk into Commoragh...

  • @TheHouseoftheVoid Umm they do, with the Dark Eldar that captured them...

  • @MrIlive4metal Naw man, then you're dragged into Commoragh

  • @TheHouseoftheVoid I wouldn't say dragged, the prisoners would be in 3 or more straight lines, shackled altogether, you know what i mean

  • Oh wow, this is new. I'd like to see more.

  • this is great, part 2!

  • There's a reason you two are the best. Phil you write excellent rules and don't bloat the codex unnecessarily like Ward's and Cruddace's recent books. As a member of the old guard I respect your work on the codex, if only there were more of you.

And Jes, your sculpting ability is legendary, love what you have done with the Dark Eldar range and were able to revitalize the concept at the behest of yourself or even of your employers.

Bravo fellows, someday I hope to have a pint with you.

  • good to see games workshop speaking to their plyers and costumers

  • Thanks for doing this guys. Although we knew most of this and suspected the rest, it was still great to have you explain it. Looking forward to part 2.

  • great video, keep em coming
