I remember the baths you could dive in from the benches. we also used Holderness road baths. You could still have a bath there. Im only 41 cant see anyone having a public bath thesedays.
I used to go to the baths at Recketts the workers were given a sheets of tickets. there were benches all way round you could dive in off.
We also used Holderness road baths. I remember you could get a bath there as well. Criky how times have changed. Im only 40 ! and i couldnt see anyone going for a public bath these days.
Nobby Clarke!! What a fantastic teacher & a great character, big round nose thick yellow with nicotine from constantly having a fag in his mouth while teaching us all signals. God the do gooders brigade would have shut schools down if that was nowadays, especially with the Boss "Catch the paperweight".
Oh my god what a coincidence there!!! I used to go to reckitt's baths all the time. My grandparents both worked at reckitt's and got us all passes for the baths. I was also a Trinity House cadet but a bit after yourself. When i was a cadet we used to go to albert ave baths. Great times at Trinity House, Mr Lancaster(Bomber) was my favourite teacher. Thanks for the comment.
Thanks for your comment mikeineasthull. I remember the same finger snapping letterboxes. I did a paper round for Hiltons newsagent on chaimberlain rd, and sundays were the worst, big fat papers with magazines in would barely fit through, and when you pushed it all the way so it drops, ouch!!
Enjoyed watching the clip on Garden Village, having lived locally for many years and done paper rounds on Garden Village carrying those massive papers, everyone on village seemed to have small letterboxes. Found your article to be very intresting!!
