What you said is correct. But "family" is not the same as "species".

A Donkey is a species.

A Zebra is a species.

They both belong to the horse family.

The fact that species can interbreed is evidence for the evolution theory.

Eventually, after a LONG time period, many mutations within a family can develop a new species that can belong to a new family of it's own.

Besides, not every families can interbreed. We belong to the Ape family, but we can't interbreed with chimpanzees.

Not true. Not every alternation in the chromosomes affect the species ability to mate with others (without the mutation).

For example, we've already created many cross-breed animals with tests and we see it happen in nature as well. Donkey's and horses can give birth to a cross-breed between a donkey and a horse, a lama and a camel can do the same. There are many many more crossbreed animals.

It can bring back features from inactivated codes present in the DNA, like people with the hair decease, it can also give the being totally new features that he didn't have before, for example, a human with 12 fingers, an albino frog or human, to name a few examples.
