Actually this was rated xxx when it came out at the theatre were I lived back in the day. But, they might have boosted the rating to get more viewers. There use to be three drive in movie places in my area before they became extinct, one was on the way to the Canadian borde, people would get a glimps of x rated movies when they went past it on the free way.

Great to see the whole thing here after reading and hearing about it within the past couple of years! The film would be rated NC-17 by modern standards, though- in case you're wondering, the X rating was changed to NC-17 in 1990 in order to point out a significant meaning, also so it wouldn't confuse audiences with the marking on a pirate map.
