He will forever be known as "the guy who fired Steve Jobs". Don't know much about the guy and I never owned an Apple product. Only thing "Apple" i ever used was quicktime and VLC-player solved that problem for me.
Scully kept the Apple II alive when Jobs wanted it dead for years at that point. He earned my respect in that regard. Great analogy comparing the macintosh as an automatic and the expandable apple II as a stick shift, where you had far greater control of the hardware.
He might be boring, but Sculley had some great ideas. They led Pepsi to the No. 1 Cola in 1978. Before and later they were just chanceless against Coke. His aggressive and innovative marketing strategies made them strong.
Apple had already pretty much abandoned the II line at the point this video was made. All I see in this video is an arrogant CEO attempting to sidestep the questions.
is why apple was phazed out for IBM/MSDOS. Apple II GS was a good PC with no software(hardly any). My parents got a GS on a sale's pitch about all the great graphics/software(that was bullshit, no software planned and very little on shelves at time of purchase in 1987)
Scully actually brought apple from under 1 biilion to over 20 billion in revenue so he is by no means a dead beat, it was a troubled marketing strategy that cost him his job.
Spindler made things a lot worse - remember the Performas that were written off in early 1996 because Apple flooded the retail market with low-cost Performas and few high-end Power Macintoshes?
Too me after seeing the movie. I think it's because of Steve Jobs attitude the way he talk to his workers with aggressive they fire him. Few years later they brought him back.
@Coldacre well yeah the board made a wrong choice but without it, we wouldnt see Pixar anywhere. But our technology would have been far more advance right now.
this guys the biggest retard in the world he doesnt know jack about computers. neither did steve jobs but once a gain he knew something. Steve Jobs was soooo much success was because he was business smart if it was woz running the company it will not be sooooo succesful
Steve Jobs said, "I hired the wrong guy," referring to this loser. Sculley was named CEO of Apple Computer and he fired Steve Jobs--being one of the main founders of the company. In the time when Jobs was not around Apple, the company suffered due to the decline of its innovation and it was losing popularity. It all stopped when Jobs was later named Apple's CEO just like before.
Nice glorification of Jobs there. You may want to keep in mind that in the 80's Jobs was an egomaniac, feared around Apple HQ because of his raging fits when something crossed him.
Like being the CEO of some soft drink company make you qualified to be anything in a tech company.

Letting that moron run Apple is like letting a KKK member run the NAACP

The things I did like about John Sculley was his vision for pen computing, the Newton, and the Knowledge navigator.

@the768 That's one book I'm going to buy soon, I thought Sculley did great as Apple's CEO, especially when he had no previous experience in I.T.
