  • Why this lady interrupts the clip to talk about some fighting for a country?

  • Gone too soon. But he does look ill, bless him.

  • I really think David knew he was going to die, look 2:34 he goes to Dennis and says this heart is hard to carry on

  • An impromptu performance that was still memorable

  • chills. just chills.

  • David Ruffin was the best of the best and all times, there will never be another David Ruffin out there. Even though throughout his life he battle a drug addiction, but in the music industry many did battle the same.. He was still the greastest... And that voice will never be mimic from any one....

  • @paulchalmers2 you know you're right. I wrote a song just from this video. the first true mega-hit motown "crossover" voice that brought the struggle and desperation to the nation. sad but beautiful video.

  • Notice how he said Fading Away at the beginning, another great love song.

  • This is a jewel

  • dennis is good also [i wonder who she's seeing now] sweet, and allie ollie woodson [lady soul] but eddie and davie no one i mean no can come close.

  • what a song - timeless, honest and very sad. It still strikes a nerve after 45 years since its release.

  • It's a shame David cannot be flattered, because the saying goes imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, My man David can never be imatated. WOW! That voice IS and ALWAYS WILL BE one of the greatest gifts the LORD has allowed us to hear. May you forever rest in peace MR. DAVID RUFFIN

  • David Ruffin was gods gift to music..he has such a soothing peaceful voice...I listen to the temps 24/7 and I play drums in a heavy metal band...but there something about Ruffin voice that I just can't stop listening to him sing

  • One of the greatest groups EVER!, masterful singing and vocals, the fabulous Funk Brothers doing the musical background, oh man, what a time it was for beautiful soul music. David Ruffin, could that man sing, perfect voice for the lead singer.Long live the music of Motown.

  • Can David sing or what. You can always tell the greats...they sound good when they're much older. Magnificent vocals all around, especially David's.

  • can somebody please edit out her well intended babble. rare gem this is.

  • Love it

  • i love the Temptations the originals.!(: this makes me wanna shed tears of happiness.! i would do ANYTHING to go back in time just to see them all when they would sing in beautiful harmonies.): R.I.P. Eddie, Melvin, Paul, & David.): </3

  • One of the coolest things I've ever seen. David Ruffin's voice, in my opinion, is a real proof of the existence of God.

  • Wow!

  • Simply wonderful & they sounded nice together.

  • THIS IS TRULY A MASTERPIECE - I'M OVERWHELMED WITH GRATITUDE.

  • David is STILL right on the mark. man...what a performer!!! He is singing....with NO music. Right on pitch....still a pro. Eddie and Dennis too. Soooooo good

  • heartbreakingly beautiful

  • i wonder why David came over to Dennis nd said this heart is hard to carry on?

  • You are now watching a master at work...

  • I have always been so in love with Mr. David Eli Ruffin and Eddie James Kendrick and will be forever and a day.

  • David, a true great voice, in my opinion the best there was. His voice gives me a great feeling and thats what music and singing should do

Thanks to David and all the temptations

  • Amazing voice and he makes it seem effortless. David was right in the moment, every word smooth as silk. Thanks

  • i can listen to his voice over and over, he's my late cousin in my head, lol. Can someone tell me who is the young lady in the video with David? Is that his ex-wife Sandra?

  • would be ok but commentator goes on a bit much

  • Comment removed

  • @bandit120008 I agree with what you said. Arthel has a big head. All that extra stuff she said, about war and all was unnecessary.

  • i would say this vid takes me back but im only 14 but i love this vid

  • fabulous!!!!!!

  • You could always hear Eddie in the background..

  • It was also the day of my faher's funeral. This video is sooo valuable. The first time I saw the older David and Eddie before they died so soon after this was done. The Temps were my childhood idols -thanks so much for sharing.

  • 1/18/1941..Happy Birthday.. Davis Eli Ruffin..Always remembered and forever loved!! Also, inducted into Hall of Fame on this date in 1989..The "MASTER" of soul will never be forgotten..

  • Folks, you are viewing a musical masterpiece. Long live the sound of David Ruffin, the best of the best.

  • I saw David sing it live in May 1991 on two separate nights and he was amazing. This clip shows him "sketching it out " in whats basically an interview.Believe the man blew to the very end,Sung a snippet of "What now my love" that night too and it was better and more powerful than his original in 1967.Absolute legend and very under appreciated !

  • Tell it brother,what a voice

  • This is what the voice of a TRUE GOD

    GIVEN TALENT SOUNDS LIKE!!!

  • idk bout everyone else but im in love wit david and his glasses is their anyway i can get them lolz im serious his glassess are so cool! i love u dvid and eddie and the rest of the beatifully talented tempts!

  • omg David and Eddie and Dennis were great and omg Davids voice was still beautiful as always and he still got moves and as u can see they still have fashion lolz Temptations Forever! I LOVE THEM FORVER!

  • thats whats up

  • Such greatness! How many of today's singers could go it without music? I know it's there but very low in the background. Still very impressive talent.

  • yes david never lost his voice even to his last day that voice was still going strong . wish he was still here

  • I love David, but, at this time in his tormented life, his voice was gone, listen to the studio cut !!! God bless him!! When he passed, it is said that his weight was 120 Pds...We were graced by his "Genius"...

  • How can you say his voice is gone? They're basically whispering this song. Listen to him in concert then decide. Or listen to hurt the one you love. The voice is a little different, but not lost. Second, he originally song this song in 1965, this video is 1990 or 1991, so of course he sounds different. Finally, what singer sounds exactly the same live as they do in the studio.

  • u r rite

  • As far as David's looks at the time of this video, I think he looks like a man in his 50's, which is what he was. And for his age I don't think he looked all that bad. They say that alcohol is what ages you, not drugs. God, look at Keith Richards. Keith actually didn't look bad when he was on heroin, then look at him when he got off heroin and became an alchy, that's when he started looking ravaged. Compare David with Keith at 50, which one looked like the walking dead?

  • You can't really compare the two because white people age a lot worse than colored peoples. A colored person at 50 will look like a white person (in general) at 35!

  • There is some truth to that, but on the other hand James Brown looked pretty scary before he died. Maybe because of alcohol?

  • That's so funny! ! OMG I'm white. yipes!!!!

  • I'm amazed at how david never lost his voice because of the drugs. He sounds amazing. By the time this vedio was made, they were not as famous, but the fire was still there. I beleive GOD'S favorite group was the temptations.

  • yea.. people think he lost his voice here... they don't realize that he wasn't even trying to sing... he was singing casually!!!

  • The Greatest ever!!!!!!

  • David's voice is magnificent.

  • Thank You For Postinq This Sweetheart; I Really Do Appreciate It! =]

  • One of the most underrated voices of all time, David Ruffin.

I have David after Sam Cooke and Al Green, but ahead of Marvin in terms of voice.

  • underrated?? wow....

Pauls was the one who was Underrated.

  • I totally agree. Paul's voice was incredible, yet there's not alot of information about him besides the obvious. He was the best Temptations. Even Otis said He will alwayz Remain the "True Temptation"

  • May have been Tammy Terrell he was

singing about, but he best epitomized his

feelings on the 1968-1969 record, "My whole world ended ".

Damn it, talent like this comes along once

    only every so many years.

Every brother from my era ('70's) wants

to have that persona, RIP DAVID RUFFIN.

  • Of all the Temps records, this one best epitomizes their true harmony.

Listen to the original when they all sing

"Babehhhh" and you'll hear theDavid, the

    two Primes and Melvin.

    Awesome, simply AWESOME.

  • Pure Genius. Unbeliveable Talent.

  • beautiful example of soul at the snap of a finger........you can't fake it....these men are it!

  • oooooo yes

  • still awsome

  • too good for me.

  • Great Stuff!!!!!

  • Absolute magic. I had the video this was excerpted from ("Street Gold") and have misplaced it. This was my favorite cut. I always hoped someone would post this, and I thank you very much for doing so.

  • Brought tears to my eyes. These are the men I have loved all of my life. Rest in Peace, Brothers. You are angels to me.

  • AMEN!!!!

  • Thanks for posting this my fav two original tempts such a great loss now there not here.

  • I'm speechless. Incredible! Thank you soooo much for posting. Captures a gentle, playful side that I've not seen in other vids.

  • was david talking about tammi terrell when he said he was talking about a lady who was dear to him when he sung the song because the song was in 1967 i think didnt she break the engament in that year

  • I was wondering the same thing. When he said a young lady who was fading away. I don't think he could ever really mourn for her publicly because of all the rumors and things that was put out over the years. As long as they made peace with each other, it really doesn't matter what anyone else think. Love these guys. I wish he could of got the help he needed or found the inner peace that he may have been searching for. I wish I could have met them. Just wasn't in God's plan.

  • wow..its good to see them goof off(especially David) like normal people..lol. i felt as if i knew them.

  • David looks even thinner than usual. But he

could still sing. wow thanks for posting

  • even though David diminished physically in many ways, he maintained those big ass hands! and you know what they say about a man with big ass hands...hmmm....David!

  • Thanks so much for this...just great - David sounded so good just messing around with the guys - I have to get this whole thing

  • It is a pleasure to once again see the TEMPTATIONS!

  • I don't think he would have been doing all those steps if he wasn't trying, but if you said you saw him right before his demise and he was really good (better than this), I believe you.

  • damn, ruffin is tha man!

  • David Ruffin is THE MAN. He sound good to me here and on any other recording.

  • WAIT A MINUTE! "the night we went to war wit Iraq?" Wasn't Ruffin DEAD by then?

  • lmao... we been at war wit iraq since da first Bush got elected, even b4 that i think...

  • They sound better than most of the no jacks out here, and it's just three of them! When the music is inside of you, you are gonna sound good! To bad the music is not inside of these young people today! Reuben, and maybe a few others! But, very few, very few!

  • oh yeah the FIRST gulf war so it makes sense. I thought Ruffin died in the eighties. my bad.

  • na, he died like in 1991 or 92

  • 1991

  • not only did david have a great singing voice but his speaking voice was great. if he would have ever ministered he would have captured a lot of souls.

  • you are right dan it seems ot me it was a remininscing per formance. if thye were reall performing like they usually do you would have niticed david voice elevated and that raspyness would have come out on some of the high point.

  • it´s amazing to see how much easy was for david to sing perfectly. he was and he still is the king.

    excellent video.

  • Hey thanx for posting this....I luv this man (DAVID RUFFIN). The music industry grinds black talent into faded memories. I'm glad someone thought enough of these three great talents to post a treasure of clip. I salute the soul legends...DAVID RUFFIN & THE TEMPTATIONS!!!

  • Did Eddie ever not look sharp? He was a fine young man, but even a more distinguished older gentleman.

  • Agreed 1000%! :-)

  • Can you post the one with them singing Just My Imagination

  • Thank you for posting.............great clip!

  • I have this dvd and I love it. What a brilliant performance thanks.

  • y do u hate it

  • She never said she hated it, she was saying that she had the video featuring this clip.

  • hry DiscoNights1987 how do u think david did in this keep it real

  • I think David did fine. They are not trying to do a real performance. I look at this and think they are just reminiscing and just singing softly. They were really friends so I think they are singing like if you and your friends got together and was just singing some songs from back in the day. I think they were just having a good time.

  • i still lie it because i never saw him sing this

  • This was filmed in February of 1990 and is available from Streetgold Entertainment

  • Davis Ruffin's music is what we call that pimpin muisc in the Memphis TEN.

  • He still had his charisma and magic. Moving even if it hurt. What a legend.

  • Even though David may have sounded sick or old to some of you, he stilled sounded better than anything today.. Do you agree?

  • no i think it was jus because of its song its a fasletto and ur right hes is older but look at his last performence i wish it would rain it way better

  • The woman said the video was captured on the night that America went to war with Iraq. So this was done in 1990.

  • Thanks for posting this. This is a rare treat.

  • he sounded ok not great

  • He died at age 50 in 1991. He was probably around 46-47 in this video. He was two years older than Dennis Edwards. David looked older due to his illness. He never lost his voice, this was just not one of his best performances. It's always good to see him no matter what.

  • u dumm ass, he wuzn't really tryna perform... he wuz jus reminiscin wit hiz friendz and barely singing...

  • Why you catchin feelings? and yes, he was trying to perform. He's not going to sing horribly simply because he is reminiscing with his friends.

  • um first of all, i aint catchin feelingz, jus spittin factz 2 yo dumm-founded ass... if u did yo research correctly and knew muzick, u woulda known dat he still put out hitz b4 he died... and in hiz hitz, he sounded a whole lot betta, i know wut he soundz like dumm-ass

  • No nee for the insults, but anyway, if you really knew music, you would know that nothing showcases vocal ability like a live performance.

  • lol what a R.. you have a lot of videos here on youtube where he is performing LIVE. You will see vocal ability there. Here he took it on easy - they all did.

In my oppinion his best LIVE performance was in video - I wish it would rain.

  • Oh I know Ruffin is beast. He is one of the best vocalists ever and one of my personal favorites. People just think that because a person is great that he can be criticized. When he was young, few could touch him.

  • I love the way they're dressed, especially Eddie.

  • Damn u beat me to uploading this

  • Oh my gosh this surely is a rare and unexpected but wonderful clip. There will be those who will look to criticize but he still has a good voice and moves are still there.

  • Wonderful:)

  • One of my greatest regrets that I never saw David Ruffin live

  • woooohOOOOO! WOw me and David share the same moves!! hahah yea right i'm uncordinated xD Very Nice video and a good find :) keep'em coming

  • Another excellent post, keep em coming! :O)

  • Awesome! I love me some Eddie, David, and Dennis!!!

  • Fantastic video,.ktf.

  • Disco--my daughter!!! LOL You keep finding all this Street Gold!!! How do you do it??? I love these clips. Got this somewhere on a VHS tape. Need to dig it out.

  • this was real tight!

  • so sad how ruffin declined...

  • i agree, the drugs ravaged his body (made him look so much older than he was...so sad) but not is voice

  • Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • WOW ! superb !

  • David still had moves. Go David! I love this.

  • one great video of somethe tempts

  • Great stuff

  • Girl, you are the best. I love this song so so much. This is my best temptations song.

  • 1st!!!
