These were the best balladiers ever! Just look at the impressive collection of classic ballads and love songs that they churned out thru the years. Thanks for the memories . . .
This song means a lot because the lyrics mean something, I like the music of today as well, but when I want to listen to my favorite music on my laptop, the Commodores, and Lionel Ritchie, The Eagles, and Abba are high on my list... and always will be
within the first three notes, I had tears in my eyes. Not just from a lost love but these guys were so magically together. Who'd have ever thought that a bunch of black boys from a really poor part of Alabama, would go on to change the world. Before everyone jumps me for that, Im FROM Alabama, and it was hard even in the 70s to be black down here. Much less become one of the biggest recording acts of the times. Im far from racist. I just want yall to realize what those guys REALLY went thru.
Reminds me of my first true love, and the broken heart I suffered. It was during my college days. Thank goodness I am far beyond that period. I have been married, happily to a wonderful man for 29 years, but this song reminds me of how far I have come.
A TIMELESS & MEMORABLE CLASSIC! The words are so simple and yet stirring. I find myself singing along with Lionel the words to the song. Simply unforgettable & priceless.
you will find that person ...i looked for 28 yrs ifound her been happily married for 21 yrs......dont give up maybe there looking for you to...love you coolecup........
Black people are natural geniuses when it comes to music, and I don't give a flyin' rip how many diagreements I get about that. WHY did we give it away to the crap they call music today!! We let them take our genius away from us!!! WHY!!!
Amazing artist.. My mom loves Lionel Richie's music. These song have sentiment and bring tears, but there are good feeling usually. The man is a genius.
He just left. He said he would love me forever? How ,do i reconcile this? how do i make sence of his turning his back on me when i still hear his words echoing in my mind that he loves me loves me forever? What the fuck just happend?? What the fuck did i do?? boy good luck finding someone to love u as much as i loved you asshole!! STILL!!!!
without songs like this anymore, what does the younger generation have to listen to when they are low, a violent rap song? wish they still made 'em like this.
wow i may not go to sleep tonight , but wait for the sunrise to come maybe step back & think of all the wrongs ive done in my life, then appreciate what ive got now , thanks !!!!
@WOODCRAFTER1966 No, I meant it is much better than the current rap that many black musicians produce. I miss Motown. I hate rap. There is still some decent music coming out today.
yes there were two versions, the one sung by lionel ritchie with commodores and one when he got solo. notice the 2nd paragraph and 4th if i'm not mistaken, they were interchanged, we play the game that people play and so many dreams that flew away paragraphs
Wait a second is there A DIFFERENT version of this song? Its the only one I know, and its a masterpiece. The lyrics are timeless. And still makes me cry. This is by still one of their best songs. And Lionel is a genius ballad writer, if not THE BEST OF ALL TIME.
I always said I live my life without regrets... this song always makes me a liar. I wish I could go back and fix a lot of things I did wrong. We only go around once in this life and my pride got in the way of me letting me say what I say now every-time I hear a song like this... real love never dies... your hear mends and your mind lets you forget the hurt sometimes... but... most of all. I do love you... still....
I was a very young teenager when this song came out and I truly LOVED it then, and it remains in my heart today and continues to give me goosebumps every time I hear it still today...the Commodores are one of my ALL TIME favorite groups, and I LOVE listening to their old music as often I can!!! Thanks so much for posting this video!!! :)
Many thanks for posting the long version of this beautiful song. It really annoys me when they play it on the radio as they cut half of it out! Lionel at his best.
I understand why they edited the song now, the extra length makes it a dirge' while the shorter version has more dynamics and impact. Less is more certainly works here
No song has more meaning to me than this classic from The Commodores. I think of someone close to me that I lost contact with in the haze of my young adulthood and close to 18 years later remains a hole in my heart. The song always reminds me of the family I had and keeps my hope alive that one day we will reunite once again. To Carolyn Shearheart: I loved you like a Brother and you remain in my memory to this day:(
This is the version I've been looking for. All the albums I bought has the short version which doesn't have the same impact as this. What a beautiful poignant love song. I was in college when this was released and I remember my best friend all excited about this and we both fell in love with this song. Funny thing is, we both didn't have a serious boyfriend yet at that time.
@rellenoz YES AND THE SOMEONES SHOULD BE THE OG'S OF THIS SONG, MY HOMETOWN BOYS,THE COMMODORES WITH LIONEL.! THE COMMODORES STILL TOUR TODAY. WITH LIONEL, THEY WOULD BLOW UP THE TOUR CITIES AND COUNTRIES EASY LIKE A SUNDAY MORNIN !
I did sing this song on May 16th, Cindys' birthday. She would have been 54 yrs old. When I sang it at a Karaoke bar that night, I thought of the moment when I first held her to the day she left me, then she came back to me for a weekend, then left me again. She died in 2002. Some how I know deep in my heart, you needed me, cause I needed you so desperately, we were to blind to see. But then most of all Cindy, I do love you, STILL. RIP and Happy Birthday Cindy.
Emmy, I think of you each time I hear this song. Those words eh? "We made mistakes along the way......So many things we didn't say..... I wonder if you need me now......so many dreams that flew away.....but most of all.. I do love you STILL! X.x.
When ever I wake up to go to work, the line "Morning's just a moment away, and I'm without you once again" enters my thoughts about my late girlfriend Cindy Lou. I remember dancing with her on Friday or Saturday nights at the Discos to this song. Cindy I miss you , but then most of all, I do love you, STILL.
This is for my lady, my love, my late girlfriend Cindy Lou Schmidt (1956-2002) I miss you Honey. May 16th, I will sing this, as well as other songs at a Karaoke bar in memory of you, with a heavy heart. Cindy, but then most of all, I do love you, STILL.
Lionel Richie at this time in his career was still with the Commodores. The best was to come. . . .this song was the first of many GREAT love songs!!!
And after this, he would never have another #1 pop hit as a Commodore. He would write the lyrics to and sing backing vocals on Kenny Rogers' 1980 #1 hit "Lady" (it was considered as a Commodores song, but then rejected by the other Commodores in favor of William King's "Lady (You Bring Me Up)"), then the next year he would collaborate with Diana Ross on "Endless Love," which again hit #1 and was released shortly after Lionel's final album with the Commodores, "In the Pocket."
there is no "used to make me cry", admit it... it still makes you cry. Real love never dies... it just gets buried until we hear genius like this that lets it flow out... god bless. It still makes me cry.
