(Wall Street Journal) All of the most important objectives of the surge have been accomplished in Iraq. The sectarian civil war is ended; al Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) has been dealt a devastating blow; and the Sadrist militia and other Iranian-backed militant groups have been disrupted.
Meanwhile, the Iraqi government has accomplished almost all of the legislative benchmarks set by the U.S. Congress and the Bush administration. More important, it is gaining wider legitimacy among the population.
The best part is that Obama first claims the surge worked to reduce violence but didn't accomplish the goal of allowing the Iraqis to make advances amongst themselves. Now he is taking the 180 degree view that the surge did not work, but rather the Iraqis took the initiative and came together to arrive at the current, improved situation.
All of this within hours of each other. Obama is the fan at a sports event pointing out the flaws of a coach, but doesn't know how to coach himself.
Not only was he wrong, but he's also showing that he can't ADMIT when he's wrong! Is this moron starting to believe his own sycophantic press and think he's infallible? Well, he *has* to, because he is, after all, a man of no substance and no accomplishment. The only thing he can even *pretend* to have is "good judgement", so when clearly his "judgement" was WRONG, there's nothing left but a few vaguely inspirational speeches. His whole campaign dissolves into nothingness. The audacity of hype!
The point is not whether the "surge" has reduced violence (so has ethnic cleansing, and the U.S. paying off Iraqi combatants not to kill each other). The point is that McCain fabricated events to Katie Couric, and she went right along with it. Scarborough may not be too stupid to be on television, but this is one of those instances where he is full of shit.
A decline in violence doesn't mean that things have worked. This whole idea of boasting that the surge has worked...is like... when Bush said mission accomplished
So when bush said mission accomplished the death rate went down and stated down for many months straight? Sorry but it is no where near the same thing. Fact is deaths and violence has gone way down and has stayed down. What proof would you need to say something with such overwhelming evidence has worked?
Detroit?.... Bush can go to Detroit anytime-day and night. But he has to hide when he goes to Iraq. ( like an intimidated chicken) In any case, if there is violence in Detroit, we should put our troops in Detroit not Iraq
The surge is very expensive:
it contributes to 46% of the deficit
- and -
it costs 126 times the money that we get back from Iraq in terms of oil

And I quote:
"I think that the surge has succeeded in ways that nobody anticipated," Obama said. "I've already said it's succeeded beyond our wildest dreams."
Flip flop!

There's less violence in Iraq than Detroit.
