People pay a licence fee to watch television and to be honest, Plasma sets have much better colour reproduction, richer and darker blacks compared with an LCD set.
Hams pay no licence fee so hardly have a right to complain, same with those plug in broadband adapters, You can call out the boys but it's unlikely anything will be done.
Where i live most of the H.F spectrum is wiped out by noise, and it carries on right up to around 50mhz.. Wont be long before 2 meters is also killed off
@26highstreet I think it is time plasma sets were taken off the market. Just because the owner of one of these pays for a licence does not mean he, or she, has the permission to generate gross electromagnetic interference with it. They are old technology and power hungry, look at all those fans in the back. With LED screens on the market ther is no excuse to continue with trhese dinosaurs.
@toftyon To be honest power hungry radios are way out of date really, the power required to run one of those old valve hf rigs and a linear just to talk to a stranger is bizzare to say the least.
Plasma sets have better picture quality and wider viewing angles than lcd.
Would you be happy do go to work on a 50cc 120mpg moped? or some gas guzzling big engine car designed to take 4 people and all there luggage on a long trip. i am more concerned about exhaust fumes the magnetic fields
@26highstreet I agree, there are a small percentage who still use valve rigs, but the vast majority use solid state gear, which is very efficient. The worst valve users are the barmy golden ear Hi Fi brigade, but the less said about them the better.
Regarding " Talking to a stranger", I would rather be doing that than having my brain confused by the diabolical trash spewed out as, so called, entertainment by the TV providers.
P.S. I don't drive, so exhaust fumes do not apply.
There are three effective solutions that surgically remove that noise forever. There's no NB/NR effective... WiMo QRM Eliminator, MFJ 1026 Noise Canceller, TimeWave ANC-4, all derived from the S.E.M. QRM Eliminator, originally manufacured in the Isle of Man, UK.
They superimpose the noise captured from a pick-Up antenna rotated by 180° to the original antenna signal and wipe it out completely.
I use it daily and my life got really better, getting rid of ANY Human-Made QRM/Noise !!
Follow on Ofcom visited today a team of four !!! checked the plasma TV that is giving me all the trouble after 40minuets i was told that it comply s to the EMC directive and there isn't anything i can do .They are are a waste of time if you are in close proximity of any Rf radiating plasma TV and your radio is almost rendered unless smile as there is noting you can do about it i have decided to run full 400w power from now on see what that will do.Give them back a little of what I get
paulbookham replies - tr the BBC they are now incharge of this I am sure, my situation was resolved in the end as the Plasma TV was re-located to another district in place of an LCD. Offcom were decidely dodgy with thier approach and response to me complaint, they ahd a team look at it but never gave me any more detail other than to say it was within BS. Try Radcom mag or rsgb site for details.
Hi I am an Electrosensitive if you think your radio is in trouble spare a thought for me I have been palgued by a Pioneer 42inch plasma 50m over the road which when on contaminates everything mains, telecoms, plants walls, matresses, fishtank and more sadly me, I am driven away from my home by this on a daily basis. THE SOUND YOU PLAY CAN BE PICKED UP ON MY am RADIO AT 1600KHZ, on the above. I had offcom check this out last year and they said it was found to be within BS ? aNY IDEAS -
@PAULBOOKHAM1 Hi did you get the issue resolved ? i have the same problem and waiting for a second visit from ofcom .Di ofcom show you the test results ? and do you know the EMC standard regarding noise,i don't one thing you might try I'm about to is read the TV licence states your TV SHOULD NOT CAUSE INTERFERENCE TO ANY OTHER TV/OR RADIO EQUIPMENT!!!!!! so it contravening the licence conditions this is my next move i want to have a report from them ofcom lie!!!
I am having this problem when listening to HF. The plasma TV is inside the house, the longwire antenna outside. On 80 metres the noise is +20. Awful. Is there anything that can be done to reduce the interference?

@toftyon Ok, fair enough.
My biggest concern is P.L.T devices causing major interference and the new more powerful versions coming out soon.

@ciucciofrullo A noise canceler helps a lot. But only until some other neighbour buys a Plasma TV..
Take a look at /watch?v=DOhCuQxmctQ for a demonstration on mediumwave.Band.

Same noise here on 80 metres, 20db over S9. Add to that the BT Vision BPL noise across the spectrum, and the hobby's essentially finished.

sounds almost like my old TV for c64 at the 80's, but it also sounds like digital... The TV sound could be heard with an taperecorder.
