I've always wanted to get out to this. It's only 200 or so miles from my place here in the Desert of Southern California. Get to look at all the toys I can't have.

@thespartanmk1 You should do it. They are having another shooting at the end of March. I drove 450 miles. I saw groups of Europeans who flew over just to go to it. You won't regret going. Just make sure you print out maps and directions to find the place.

@d4vidturn3r I think they will set an occasional car out there but the largest thing I saw was just 55 gallon drums. I think because the area is so remote and difficult to get to, you have to drive on semi-mountainous dirt roads for 5 miles just to get back there.

@taofledermaus when i was in cadets we used to do night nav etc and we did live firing excersizes ay night and i used tracer rounds in an lsw nothing special but spectacular to wach :) nice vid btw

AWESOME vid and more AWESOMER if you watch this with headphones on , surround sound gun fire ,do you know if they were using 1in 5 tracer or 1 in 1 ,because if its 1 in 5 there's 4 more rounds going down range in between the tracers

@cressy7isback You can tell where the shots are coming from with headphones. I'm pretty sure all the rounds they are firing are tracers. Some of them were very close together. These guys fire off millions of rounds in the weekend, the amount of money has to be enormous!

if you want some real good footage of some tracers at night i think you need to check out the knob creek machine gun shoot. it happens 2 times a year in west point Kentucky, in April and October.

@gamepro220 Knob Creek is a lot further from me. From the videos I have seen of it, it looks like the firing line is pretty bunched up and there are many more spectators there. Because everyone is so spread out at Big Sandy, it doesn't look like there are as many shooters but they claim to be the biggest MG shoot in U.S.

Getting back to your tests with wax around the shot on the shot gun, any chance of shooting just a solid lump of wax with no lead pellets in to see what damage it can cause to say to an inch thick piece of wood?

@malcytull A lot of tourists come to these machine gun shoots since it is such a unique experience. I plan on doing a lot of new tests with the wax slugs. I am trying to get a 55lb block of butter to shoot. Not sure if I will get that or not but I will try to make some ballistics gel, shoot multiple layers of styrofoam, plywood, thicker wood, 1/4" mild steel plates, and whatever else to demonstrate these rounds' potential. I'm really fascinated with them.
