how about neither. Starbucks is over priced and Mcdonalds sales food that will kill you in the long run. They're food never goes bad just watch the movie SUPER SIZE me.
I may be a little biased since I work at McDonald's and my town must be the only one left in America without a Starbucks, but I have to say McD's coffee is pretty damn good. Starbucks is expensive and overrated. Plus I'm addicted to the Mocha Frappés - YUMMY. Also I saw something at work that said that 1 in 5 cups of coffee sold in America each day is sold at McD's. Make of that what you will.
@logicCplusplus actually they've just closed tons down south in the US. I guess it hasn't caught on with Americans like it has us, Canadians. Personally, I think Tims is shit quality but I do like Second Cup which is 100% Canadian and is served on Air Canada flights. Also, I head Blitz coffee is good but it's only in BC. McD's is good but they put too much cream n sugar in it even if u ask for a reg. so i get it black and do it myself. Regardless Starbucks is amazing.
@logicCplusplus Oh deffinatley, but the thing is, that's how I like it... strong. @logicCplusplus breakfast blend, it's a a mild roast, the regular coffee (pike place roast) is a medium. So it won't be as strong, also use the coffee cream rather than the half and half cause it has more butterfat. You can load up on sugar lol but use the raw, it has a nicer sweet for coffee and it isn't refined/bleached like white.
people are so lazy these days they go to mcdonalds get breakfast lunch and dinner wtf people need to start making their own food and i dont mean to call all people lazy i got to mc d and starbucks every once and a while but i find the fast food all day stuff very stupid

I am a big coffee person and I have to say that Mcdonalds coffee taste way better and its cheaper. Starbucks coffe is overpriced and has a burnt flavor in all of the blends I have tried. Plus, some people buy starbucks because they like following the trends. I say its just ridiculous.
I love starbucks. There milkshakes a really good. I dont really like Mc Donalds. Starbucks is more worth it. Even if its like 4dollars for coffee or whatever. Mc Donalds isnt that worth it. They just hurry and make it. Even if its over cooked. Starbucks uses there time better.

starbucks has provided for a niche willing to pay more for quality. Doesnt sound like McDonalds' marketing plan to me. When a coffee consesuir wants a coffee they will go to a Starbucks or similar, not a burger joint.
There is a market out there for $2+ cups of coffee, most clearly and McDonalds is one that does not belong.
the new mcdonalds cafe things bug me in the fact they don't even steam the milk fresh... they push a button that says non fat or whole milk... decaf or regular and then it pour into a cup and they stir it.... of coarse their not called barista's! they don't do anything a barista does
this is going for all starbucks, alterra, caribou, and every independent coffee shop out there with hard working baristas
Exactly. That's why McDonalds will never overtake Starbucks in coffee. Starbucks: More options, the image, better quality coffee, a reputation for making good coffee, etc.
if you did some research(i know that sounds snobby but i dont mean to be) you would know that for the first time in the last year starbucks profits and stock has been going down...and people are begging to see that starbucks is just an image and not a flavor
wow, mcdonalds is trying to take over coffee too now? pretty soon they'll try to monopolize the entire market by selling tacos, pizza, and a drive thru car wash. oh ho ho, and their advertising slogan of being unsnobby? just ridiculous. so are people going to realize: wait a minute, i'm not a snob. i don't belong at starbucks with these high class freaks. lol. The products are fine, i will go to both places occasionally(some people go too much), but todays market and ads just annoy me
McDonalds will not monopolize coffee because there is no way they will be able to offer NEARLY as many options as a coffee-focused shop can nor will they be able to devote enough staff and efforts to making quality coffee. And, McDonalds will NEVER be able to imitate the image. It's just an alternative to the $1 basic coffees.
lol, yeah i know they can't monopolize coffee and stuff, i just thought it was really funny that McDonalds and Starbucks are actually going at it. never saw it coming. kinda ranted a little lol. plus negative ads can be so ridiculous sometimes(remember how pepsi ripped on coke all the time) hmmm...i miss 7 up commercials: make 7 up yours!
Now if I buy one coffee a day, every work day for 50 weeks a year, which to be honest is being conservative, that will cost me $20 a week or $1,000 a year.
Now Just imagine if I chose to use that 1,000 a year to pay off my mortgage. How much would that save me over the 20 year life of the mortgage.
We've done the calculations and its startling. I'll never pay for coffee again.
Paying off the mortgage would save me $60,000 over the life of that mortgage.
This is the Age of $4 gasoline. If the quality of coffee is even close, and it is, you HAVE to go with McDonald's. But then I'm not rich OR a snob, so its just my opinion.
When I think of McDonald's, the word quality doesn't come to mind. At all. Ever. Starbucks is quality coffee. Not just the frapps, like everyone on here is saying. Treating espresso with integrity? I seriously doubt McDonald's does the extensive training and what not to make their employees care about what they are making.
1>The espresso in every drink is automatic, just like McDonalds. Starbucks hasn't pulled their own shots for years.
2> Starbucks hires a company to pose as a customer, and give the branch [coffee shop], and barista a rating. You WILL get fired if your rating is low.
2b> One of the things you are rated on, is that EVERY customer gets their drink within 3 minutes, no matter how long the line is, or what the drink[s] are.
3>Howard Schultz: high price is not due to quality, but thoughts of luxury
We may not have pulled shots manually for years (though some stores just switched to automatic recently) but we can tell good shots from bad shots -- that's why we time the shots every hour to make sure they're the right consistancy.
i go to starbucks because there i met the love of my life, and i think starbucks is the best coffee on earth, since that day we call starbucks our spot,i am a truck driver, and before i look up for direction i make sure where is the nearest starbucks on my way so i stop and get a venti plain coffee,
I think people go to Starbucks because people that work there are nicer. The Starbucks I go to in NYC is next to a MCdonalds. I've tried both places depending on which one has the shorter line, more often than not I go to Starbucks because the people that work there actually make conversation with you while you're waiting so the wait time feel shorter, instead of blankly staring at a computer monitor like they do at Mcdonalds. So for the most part I support being treated like a real human being.
I have to admit, I don't drink coffee but go to Starbucks for their other drinks. I just wouldn't trust McDonalds to make a good cup of coffee. It's just about perception I guess, but for me, McDonalds=low quality and Starbucks=higher quality---and you can basically tell because of the types of people that go to these two places. So it's partially class-based as well.
I have been employed by Starbucks for 6 wonderful years now and I think the message is simple. If you want quick coffee and less than exceptable customer service, choose Micky D's. If you want consistantly fresh coffee plus quick delivery while still upholding the personal "how are you today mr. Tibler" approach, Starbucks is always there for you.
I don't eat at Mcdonalds but lately I buy coffee there b.c. it's way better than Starbuck's. Starbuck's regular coffee sucks. I feel that instead of regular coffee they give me colored hot water. One who buys frappuccino there, likes it. No wonder, so much added sugar & whipped cream. You can't go wrong with such mix, but how much coffee do they really use? That is their way of making $. With so much $ in revenue, can't they design new cup lids? Starbuck's cups usually leak. Is it only w/ me?
Being a loyal Starbuck coffee drinker I have to admit Mcdonalds is brewing a decent cup of coffee these days. In the midst of it all it has do to with quality at the end of day. I see at this point Mcdonalds may have a slight edge during these weak economic conditions in the US so many people may have to cut back on there lattes from SBUX and drink affordable coffee from MCD's.
I cannot stand Starbucks because they set up shop next to a drive thru or they pay the lanlord money to boot out the drive thru's. That happened for my friend who owns DragonFly Espresso where the drive thru Starbucks right acorss from McDonalds is. When the gas station remodeled, Starbucks ass had DE booted.
The Safeway in Lynnwood remodeled, Amocha Joynt was booted from the parking lots so Starbucks can set up shop inside the store.
I understand strategy, but no need to be greedy about it.
I work at Starbucks and I have to say their drinks are very good there but McDonalds going at the Coffee Arena? I like them better making burgers and fries, not coffee, I can't really see them make Latte's and other drink, just the basic coffee I can see but anything else eeh...
It depends on the american. I, for one, consider myself a conniseur, and have had all kinds of coffee and espresso. I hate starbucks, I hate poetry writing mother fuckers, and I can't wait to see Dunkin Donuts and McDonald's kick their fuckin ass, man.
A hard-hitting expose and a tribute to journalists everywhere. You know, we could all learn a thing or 2 here and if Mr. Neal Karlinsky does not win a Pulitizer, or at least a Peabody, then there is no hope for journalism.
ohh and mild med and bold and extra bold, scares me. At starbux that meeans bland, kinda bland, burnt and ashes. intesity deals with amount of coffee and type not roast. McD's and ****bux both are shit.
CyberCrusoe, long live real specialty coffee, and the light roast, dark roast cover up bad coffee, and mediocre coffee, and good coffee, well some small amounts perform better in the medium roast. Few coffees should ever take a dark roast if its really good, you;ll miss the nuances in dark roast.
So basically Americans are choosing between one brand of horsepiss or the other? Here's a tip, you morons: GOOD COFFEE DOESN'T NEED WHIPPED CREAM OR SPRINKLES TO COVER UP THE BITTERNESS! Lay off the candy drinks, you pussies.
Starbucks over-roasts the beans, and that is what give it that "burnt" taste. However the strength of the brew is better than McDonald's, so I still drink the Burnt Brew.
You would never know it from this "news segment" / advertisement for McDonald's coffee but McDonald's spends hundreds of millions of dollars a year advertising on ABC and other Disney media properties while Starbucks spends next to nothing. The "reporter" left that part out. No doubt $100 million had no impact at all on their viewpoint.
McDonald's is a great place to learn Spanish since the employees' don't speak English but for coffee .. gimme a break.
The main reason why it's "burnt" is because they have to make it that way for all of the mixed drinks they do. It balances out the sweetness of everything else in the coffee drink, like a frappaccino. They don't really specialize in bland coffee anymore since they have so many other options. Honestly I REALLY like McDonalds coffee, but I just prefer Starbucks.
ein äthiopischer kaffe bauer muss 6 tage lang arbeiten um sich einen kaffe bei starbucks zu leisten. einen kaffee, welche er selbst angebaut und geerntet hat.
What?! Starbucks! What kind of question is this? lol

Second, checking the shot consistency in an automatic doesn't mean much for quality, or taste.
While most Starbucks employees can't tell a good shot a hole in the ground, but they can steam milk pretty well.

i go to starbucks because there i met the love of my life, and i think starbucks is the best coffee on earth, since that day we call starbucks our spot,i am a truck driver, and before i look up for direction i make sure where is the nearest starbucks on my way so i stop and get a venti plain coffee,

Starbucks ruined the idea of coffee, and makes snotty, intellectual, college brats every day across the entire world.

McD's and ****bux both are shit.
snoopyflick 4 years ago
True that
CyberCrusoe, long live real specialty coffee, and the light roast, dark roast cover up bad coffee, and mediocre coffee, and good coffee, well some small amounts perform better in the medium roast. Few coffees should ever take a dark roast if its really good, you;ll miss the nuances in dark roast.
snoopyflick 4 years ago
So basically Americans are choosing between one brand of horsepiss or the other? Here's a tip, you morons: GOOD COFFEE DOESN'T NEED WHIPPED CREAM OR SPRINKLES TO COVER UP THE BITTERNESS! Lay off the candy drinks, you pussies.

Starbucks over-roasts the beans, and that is what give it that "burnt" taste. However the strength of the brew is better than McDonald's, so I still drink the Burnt Brew.
blademan1313 4 years ago
You would never know it from this "news segment" / advertisement for McDonald's coffee but McDonald's spends hundreds of millions of dollars a year advertising on ABC and other Disney media properties while Starbucks spends next to nothing. The "reporter" left that part out. No doubt $100 million had no impact at all on their viewpoint.
McDonald's is a great place to learn Spanish since the employees' don't speak English but for coffee .. gimme a break.

Starbucks coffee is nasty. It tastes burnt. I've never had McDonald's coffee but i heard it was good. I like Starbucks for they're frapicinos only.
LivienRochelle 4 years ago
The main reason why it's "burnt" is because they have to make it that way for all of the mixed drinks they do. It balances out the sweetness of everything else in the coffee drink, like a frappaccino. They don't really specialize in bland coffee anymore since they have so many other options. Honestly I REALLY like McDonalds coffee, but I just prefer Starbucks.
