You can not "prevent SIDS" you can redue the ricsk factors, but you can not prevent it. They have not been able to pin point the exact cause of SIDS.

My daughter died from SIDS in 2003, she was asleep on her back.

After all is done to prevent SIDS, sleeping on back, properly tucked in at the foot of the bed on a firm mattress, no toys in the cot, no loss of life to suffocation and no loss of life due to overheating or vaccinations, I wonder if in Fall & Winter, people become more sick with flu/cold/infections and the bacteria they found in autopsy reports for SIDS infants may possibly be responsible for SIDS itself.

My sister died of SIDS when I was 12... I still have a hard time with it. I dont think it will ever get easier. I miss her.

My son wont sleep on his back. He has acid reflux so he spits up a lot too. I lt him sleep on his tummy and it has made a world of difference for him. Despite what this video says i will continue to put him on his tummy and when i was a baby i slept on my tummy. SIDS is just a very unfortunate event that happens and i will pray for those who have lost their baby but it still wont change my mind.

I always thought it was best to put the baby to sleep on its tummy so that if it spits up in its sleep it wont choke on it

I think people are just trying to state that sometimes it can be prevented. People need to stop suggesting it can always be prevented or has NO prevention.

I was a baby who almost suffocated due to a blanket I had pulled over my head at 1 week of age. My lips were already blue by the time she found me. If she had waited longer, I wouldn't be here all because of a blanket. Had I died, would I have been labels a SIDS baby?

Other causes linked: Events such as lack of oxygen, excessive carbon dioxide intake, overheating, or an infection may be related to SIDS. The numbers of cells and proteins made by the immune system of some SIDS babies have been reported to be higher than normal. Some babies who die suddenly may be born with a metabolic disorder. One such disorder is medium chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency, which prevents the baby from properly processing fatty acids.

I'm curious. Out of those of you who have suffered the loss of a child to sids, who have had the child vaccinated with the DPT shot? I've read horror stories of children dieing hours and days after the DPT shot and it being ruled as 'sids' because vaccine companies don't want to take the blame for their products-which contain mercury and other toxins-for killing these poor, innocent children. :(

Mercury stopped being used in the late 80's. Mercury was blamed for causing Autism yet children still get dignosed with it today. It's also found that Autistic kids have bigger brains.

There are many things linked to the cause of sids--

Studies of SIDS victims show that many SIDS babies have abnormalities in the "arcuate nucleus," a part of the brain that probably helps control breathing and waking during sleep.

Exposure to cigarette smoke even during pg increases the chance of sids

you van prevent this. SIDS is babies that die of suffocation....lay the baies on their backs PERIOD. dONT PUT A BLANKET ON THEM!! Put your kids in an all in one blanket onesie simple.

That is not true, I am a nurse and a SIDS parent. How can you say that? Where is the proof that is it caused bye suffocation? My Son was on his back with out a blanket. Another baby in my ER was sleeping in a car seat with nothing over her. Another one was actually Brest feeding and Mom and baby fell asleep, Mom was home alone and had no blanket either. And the one in a swing? I am not trying to cause trouble, but where did you here that SIDS was due to suffocation?

so SIDS happens w/ or w/o blankets or laying on the back? That means every baby is at risk. There are ways to prevent SIDS but really there's no way of knowing. Any suggestions?

there is NO prevention...My son died in his crib...it was NOT suffocation!! We did everything right...My husband and I lost our sweet third child, Connor James Stafford. Nov. 21, 2008-march 14, 2009. I miss him everyday..How could my perfect child be gone?

I had a daughter stillborn @ 37 weeks then a year later had my son I followed all the rules and I'm glad I did! He is turning 1 tomorrow! I really think it's important for parents to know that even though you can't prevent it you can reduce the risks. My son never sleeps with a blanket ever now even now also they should have said that giving a baby a binky to suck during sleep has been shown to reduce risk and also nursed babies have been shown to be at lower risk too. But this is an awsome vid!

It IS known how it is caused in most cases, start comparing notes you grieving parents see the work & evidence offered by Dr Moulden, Dr Tenpenny, Dr Horowitz, some children R more sensitive to the thymarisol & other dangerous ingredients inclding tissue from aborted foetuses. There is swelling to the vascular sys not always immediately after the vaccination,some passages to the brain R singular & when they swell frm reaction 2 vaccn O2 cut from reaching brain, similar symptoms to shaken baby.
