Are there anymore clips from this construction process? I am from Granville, graduated from GHS in 2003 and have scene this building in its completed form, but wasn't there to witness. Very cool! Also where are the other earthship buildings in the area that you mentioned? I would love to see them.
The home we are living in is not producing (loving) to the fullest capability thats possible. We need to start producing in the here now local area where ever you are its possible to have your roof turned into a hydroponical system. Imagine the hemp that could grow upon that which also would keep your house cooler and save money in many ways. Your own brand new cloths or even a car growing on top of you. All we next need is to legalize hemp and open up share and trade factories.
They are being built all over the world. They are what we should live in since stick construction has proven itself to be a horrid waste planetary resources.
I planted taters in old tires, As the stems grow up you add another tire and more dirt/sawdust and the taters will grow in layers. I used newspaper and cardbord on the bottom to keep the weeds from growing up.
I didnt want to use cardbord in my tire home like this, i thought if it gets wet, the dirt will fall out. But if the dirt is packed some moisture will proubly help bond it. it worked for them anyhow.
So now that i have that info, when the snow melts im building my underground tire home!
perhaps your major malfunction is your understanding of what earthships can do for you..
I know it's a little astray from conventionalism, but it's pretty self-contradicting for people to avoid such advantages earthships bring for people.
You may not like the design you see in the vids, but don't let those designs hurt your feelings about this technology as a whole. Earthships allow you to use your imagination to build however you like - if you have no imagination, that can be a stump.
You bash these things in every video posted. I can't help but wonder why. I wonder if your non-internet life has something to do with a different type of alternative construction or something and you're trying to silence the competition.
You certainly haven't given any evidence that you know what you're talking about and you never give specifics of why they "suck". Perhaps your just a troll... (most likely I suppose)
why do so many earthships use dangerous tires that leach chemicals? odd choice i would think. sun-dried mud brick is best for us.

@PrimeTargetSecurity do your research. tires used after 20,000 miles produce no offgassing.

TheVenusProject dot (com) and theZeitgeistMovement dot (com) for a resource based economy not based on money that is sustainable.
Look for the Zeitgeist Addendum movie here on face book to see how the money system works and to learn of the Venus Project.
The Venus Project supports the Earthship.
The gulf wants to make me cry.

I really like the idea of using rubber tires for a sort of retaining wall; the amoeba is a very good idea! Thanks for sharing.

Granville, Ohio. It's not the first earthship in its area, so had some precedent for passing code.

Where is this home being built? I am a contractor building an Earthship in Florida; the codes process here is quite interesting for this building!!!

What is he putting in the tire to keep the dirt from falling out?

Did any one ever find out what they wore placing into the tires to retain the dirt?
sethwyo 3 years ago
No, I'm afraid not. Good luck on your project. Be wary of contractors, especially friends.
FreesWorld 3 years ago
I dont have any friends. There is no such thing as luck. Contractors ?
The person who put this up has told me it is cardboard.

Clearly, too much TV and behavioral scripting. Go camping. Try it without your internal combustion-heated knickers and your PSP.
