Although this song has no lyrics, it is in my opinion one of his best works ever. Something about this song draws me to it and i'll never tire of it.
David Gilmour is thE guitar player that other guitar players should aspire to be. His play is absolutely distinctive and could be isolated in a room of a million players.
@tevj Most who strive for the feel have to be admiring the way Dave plays, it's lyrical in approach, the guitar is THE VOICE. Like The Edge (U2) has commented, and BB King, for that matter, he sings between playing so the guitar is not trampled on with his singing
The first Gilmour solo album is the best one........this early *Raw* stuff is when Dave was at his peak....mind you...this guy is like a bottle of wine....
@cheechnchongsbong The last solo record is not something I play a lot of, I played The Who's last CD more often, that was pretty amazing! I still love the man, In here that Demon Devil mid way in the promo clip, it's the same Satan monster Megadeth used in their video! Go To Hell
I believe the demon devil you're referring to in the video is Hell Boy. I don't know if this song is also included in a HellBoy soundtrack or possibly used in the movie. I'm sure someone knows....
@tevj I think they used a similar costume for Jack Black's big hit about the Greatest song ever, it's got a bit of Devil went down to Georgia vibe to it. Tenacious D!
has anybody else noticed this song is the same as the song off of Division Bell "What Do You Want From Me" without the lyrics, still a great song though
Actually I do, Gilmour is using a modified Pete Cornish effect board that he used on animals, that includes the mistress, the delay and an mxr tube driver, that you for some reason takes as a big muff. yeah he uses a big muff on the record a lot, but not on this song, there'd be a bit more bass in the lead had he used one, As a twelve year guitarist I'd know.
Both the Big Muff and the Electric Mistress was added during rehearsals in late 1976, connected via send/returns, lying ontop of the board and was built into the board on October 25. 1977.
"Hey You" is the song that comes to my mind. I DO like Floyd but not a huge fan. The reason is that there are easily 5+ other songs that this one sounds like. They had a GREAT sound, but used it to death. To me, one song seems to be very much like the next. This will piss people off too, but I think their best album is Animals, DSOTM is over-rated... unless you still pop acid regularly... in which case ANY Floyd album will do! No question - GREAT sound... They just never varied it too much.
@2ndDayRiffs yes he's great but dude you have to find your voice on guitar instead of trying to play like David Gilmour or for example Slash,Steve Vai etc.
you are definitely right :) so far that's the only song I could think of which has a very similar intro to "what do you want from me"! can I ask what was the other song that you though it might be similar to this song?
I think the song is called "You Know I'm Right" I'm going to look it up but I think it was off the MLOR album. It seems like a lifetime ago, so I need to refresh my memory. lol
Its a lot like "what do you want from me, maybe david took this song and tried to add more feel and deepness and that ended up being What do you want from me, IMHO
this song could have easily been a floyd track. it has richard wright's footprints all over it with beautiful and pretty dreamy keyboards, simple floyd bass lines, even the atmosphere is exactly what one expects out of a floyd intrumental. the only thing missing from this is the floyd name and other members of the band.
I have always asked myself..why the great legend david gilmour never played this piece of art on a live performance... thank you my friend for posting this great dave song
to be honest it's the song I always listen to.the footage from the movie LEGEND with David standing infront of the big screen is very cool...tnx heaps for posting this...cheers
