If Motown wanted the Supremes to continue on they would have but the money was on Diana and that's why things happened the way it did. It was a favor per say to keep the Surpemes going for the fans but money on Diana was a higher stake. So it was set up for the Supremes to fail and to add the change of members added to the failure.
IMO Stoned Love was as good as ANY DIana Ross led Supremes number. There is no doubt the Supremes could have stayed much bigger IF Motown had wanted it.
She does what they all do whether they have a hit record or not , the world wide concert circuit. Some do it cause they love it, others do it cause they have to
Mary Wilson never had a hit record after the supremes Up the ladder to the roof, and she's been doing the concert circuit up to this day
Stoned Love, Everybody's Got the Right to Love, Nathan Jones, Floy Joy, Automatically Sunshine, and River Deep Mountain High, Touch, and I'm Gonna Let My Heart Do the Walking, were all hits after Up The Ladder to the Roof...are you forgetting them?
I don't remember Floy Joy, Automatically Sunshine, Touch, I'm Gonna Let My Heart Do the Walking, Everybody's Got The Right To Love as being hits, unless they were European hits. I realize The Three Degrees didn't chart much in the U.S.A. either, but were big acts in Europe. Perhaps the same was true for The Post DRoss Supremes.
Stoned Love was an American top 10, River Deep Mountain High reached number 19, Everybody's Got the Right #23, I'm Gonna Let My Heart and He's My Man number 1 dance hits. There is no argument that these hits were not as big as the Florence years (Even after it became Diana Ross and the Supremes they only produced two #1 hits in 3 years (Love Child and Someday), however The Supremes' hits are recognizable. I believe the problem may be that I am over 50 and you are somewhat younger.
Good Lord I forgot two other big hits Nathan Jones and Floy Joy which both reached the upper level of the American top 20. Nathan Jones was even covered by Bananrama.
Although she did not have a string of huge hits and nothing as massive as Band of Gold, she is not a one-hit wonder. Bring the Boys Home was a million seller. Deeper and Deeper, Cherish What is Near to You, and You Brought the Joy, were big enough hits to be recognized around the world. She has always been bigger in England and the Far East than she is in the US. The Three Degrees have a similar career.

still looks good ... and sounds pretty good. What does she do now, the "one hit wonder" circuit or something?

Yes, funny how that works, some have mass appeal and a ton of hits that everyone wants to hear, and others just appeal to a certain demographic.
