  • yeah your probably right.

  • Yeah no kidding, they have completely stolen shots from BSG....how did they not get sued???

  • @Credithelper75 Apparently Universal would sell stock footage at the drop of the hat in the 70s and 80s. At least that's what the Agony Booth recap mentioned.

Perhaps that's where the budget went.

  • ahh the eigties, good old days, when the polish were where they belong, in poland.

and not stealing your jobs, :D

  • I find this increadibly watchable without Mike and the bots. It's funny on its own.

  • At least the Special Effects are neat...

    Waitaminnit, they seem familiar. :p

  • Battlestar Southern Sun

  • Amazingly Idiotic Productions!

  • First off, they ripped off Battlestar Galactica.

  • Oh my god! It's so horrible! Where are the Bots!?

  • I'm just watching and then saying the riffs out loud to myself. Only way to go with this movie...

  • There are 70's arcade games with more sophisticated animation than this turd.

  • Amazingly Idiotic Productions!

  • 8:46

Jesus Christ, stop screaming. You're by yourself, for fucks sakes!

  • I'm surprised the makers of this film didn't get the pants sued off them by Glen Larson.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHA they recycled battle star galactica clips X)

  • Well, it's interesting to see the "uncut" version of the film, although I thought the Mystery Science Theatre 3000 take is more entertaining....although the writers didn't work in any jokes about the stock Special Effects footage being from the 1978 Battlestar Galactica television series.

  • Great work, you blew up the septic tank. Ha ha ha.

  • What's everybody complaining about? Commentary or not, this movie is pretty amazing. The special effects are about on the same level as Battlestar Galactica's and Reb Brown is a highly capable action hero.

    ;)

  • @grahamlaur lol that's because the effects were TAKEN from Galactica!

  • @Doublex776 Yes, I know this. My comment was meant to be ironic lol

  • @grahamlaur ok good, haha

  • ok im at 6:38 and i physically can't take any more

  • WTF im confused this is battle star gallactica

  • this is just too painful, put me out of this movies misery

  • Thick McRunFast

  • lawsuit, lawsuit, lawsuit, lawsuit, then firing squad, no, forget that , hand grenade in ass.

  • God, this makes Flash Gordon look like a masterpiece XDDDD

  • God the opening reminds me of the SNES days...

  • huh a battlestar galactica by another name????

  • Passed from editor to editor in a desperate attempt to save it!

  • 4:58

(shit!) "Damnit!" What was up with that? lol

  • Yeah, I think I'm out of here. As soon as I saw the BSG ships I lost interest (love BSG, but a blatant rip-off no!). How is this even possible unless it was intended to be a spin-off of BSG? Did Glen Larson owe this guy a favor?

  • Utter fucking crap

  • Hope John and Holiday DeKock?

  • Whenever I hear the intro music, I think of the 6000 SUX from RoboCop

  • This movie is unwatchable without the MST3K guys helpful commentary.

Big McLargeHuge ha ha ha ha

Hey what's with all the Galactica effects ripoffs??

  • @curea229 Just like Hobgoblins.

  • was that "pilot ship lemonaded" or "eliminated" it's so difficult to tell

  • @damianzafi2006 just shut up and make fun of the mkovie

  • @damianzafi2006= Yeah, just shut up, and learn how to spell pal.

  • Opening credits courtesy of Commodore 64! XD

  • Wow.. all footage taken from battlestar galactica, I can't watch anymore! lol.

  • 1:06

Passed from editor to editor in a desparate attempt to save it.

  • I saw clips of another movie starring Slab Bulkhead. Yor: Hunter From The Future. That movie makes this one look like Avatar. Yor is a distant relative of Slab. Their ancestor was apparently Mitchell.

    Ha.

  • Ouch! this really sucks! C'mmon! let's stop guessing if it's a small city inside the stolen battlestar galactica space ship and face it: IT IS AN OLD FACTORY.

  • Relax, that conversation is over. At 08:26, they blew up the septic tank. I'm glad I'm not the janitor on board that ship.

  • I also question how they got the stock footage from Universal's Battlestar Galactica. Surely, Universal didnt sell it to them. They may have lifted it from a foreign distributor that still held the rights to Galactica.

I still cant tell if that first shot of the Southern Sun/Galactica is supposed to be moving backwards, or are we supposed to be rapidly approaching from the rear?

  • I think this movie is part of the reason why I cannot take the old Battlestar Galactica seriously.

I also love how when the first Stingray Viper gets destroyed, Ryder's all "Dammit!" but the second one goes up and he's just like "huh? Oh. Neat."

  • Dear lord these credits/graphics are awful.

If you were not around back then; please don't think that this was common. No other movie in history ever used computer graphics this bad. By 1975, regular hand animated titles looked far superior and three dimensional than this. CGI was perfected long before this movie. Think of HBOs intro from back then.

I cant imagine what PC was used to make this. maybe it was broken.

  • @drbotanus= Those crappy graphics fit the ship perfectly. Considering, from the inside the ship appears to be made of cheap bricks, concrete, and rusted pipes. And a septic tank. I remember that HBO intro. It was pretty cool. Sorry for posting twice folks.

  • @vigo894

maybe they built a city inside the ship.. like in Macross.

  • @drbotanus= You mean a world ship? Yeah, maybe. Who knows how big the Southern Sun is supposed to be? Still, that doesn't explain why everyone, including the hero, shoots and blows stuff up at random. I guess they don't know the meaning of hull breach. As bad as this film is, I love it.

  • A small city built inside. Like in Macross/Robotech. I looked really closely at the "brick wall" scene. I believe these are tiles, not bricks. They seem too smooth & reflective to me to be bricks. The white light we see streaming in through "windows" could be the light from the engines or ultraviolet lights that light the "city". It aint pretty. but it does explain things.

I assume that its the same size as the Galactica.

Dont ask me how the dead girl comes back to life.

    Twin sister?

  • @drbotanus= That scene with the dead lady sudddenly showing up at work alive was probably meant to be shown before the nightclub scene. I know I'm being obvious there, I just wanted to say it. Had they gotten a decent budget, the Southern Sun would have probably looked like something from Syd Mead's mind. I heard the director tried to get an Alan Smithee credit after seeing the finished work. His contracted prevented that. Read the IMDB trivia. There more fun facts.

  • @vigo894

I think that any trivia regarding this movie should be taken with a grain of salt. I suspect that the plot was originally very different from what we finally got. I get the feeling that the production was shut down mid way and then the looked at what they had and tried to figure out how to make a movie with what they had.

I have suspected that the Power Plant scenes were originally intended to be a futuristic city or a planet.

    I

  • @drbotanus= Yeah, I agree with you. And I agree with what you said earlier, that the Southern Sun was originally meant to be a world ship. Only more open, with transparent domes, and big viewport windows. Go to Google images, and type in World Ship. Click at the one that says Solarist Empire. Maybe the Southern Sun was meant to be something like that. Though I don't know if the writer had that good of an imagination.

  • Thats an interesting picture. The script may have been fine but was likely very very different from Space Mutiny. I noticed that there seemed to be much ad-libbing, retakes and alternates being used

repeatedly. Like the scene in the garden were Reb Brown keeps saying 'I dont need this." They used two different takes of the same line to stretch the running time of the scene.

  • @drbotanus

I noticed that there are two original model shots.

An explosion coming out of a hole in a space ship during the "viper crash scene" and a shot of a pirate ship with a weird black cloud behind it. These were amateurish and definitely not from Battlestar Galactica and probably represent where the film would have gone, were it finished. Isnt it an african or turkish production?

  • @vigo894

It says "Transport Colony" on the graphics. Why are the vector graphic scenes all squeezed vertically. I'll have to fix that. I suspect that they were squized so that the film could be matted for theatrical presentation and the graphics wouldnt get cut off.

  • This movie has really grown on me. You dont need puppets cracking wise to enjoy a bad movie. I plan on reediting Space Mutiny and making it into a Battlestar Galactica fan film/spinoff. That will be fun.

Question: I remember seeing a (possible) TV movie

that also used stock footage from Battlestar Galactica.

I saw it on Showtime or another pay channel around 1983-86. Everyone says I am crazy. Anyone know what I am talking about?

  • horray the original version.

  • @apex2000= Yeah, we can make up our own riffs now.

    04:09= Aughhhh!

  • Is that the ship out of Battle Star Galactica played in reverse?!

  • Of course it is. But I think it just looks backwards because

the camera is approaching it for a pov shot.

  • It's so awful, they didn't even have they're own special effects, but lifted them right out of the 1978 Battlestar Galactica.

  • @Excelsior2007

There is ONE original space ship shot. It is horrible and you can see a black sheet covering the models suspension arm.

  • 04:14= And insane!

(Restricted Area). Tell me about it, these briefs I'm wearing. :).

08:27= Good work, you blew up the septic tank.

  • Amazingly Idiotic Pictures presents...

  • How DARE they steal space battle footage from the original Battlestar Galactica and use it for this crap for crap of a movie! I can just imagine Richard Hatch, Dirk Benedict, and the cylons coming in and blowing the crap out of these guys! I do admit though, this is a very entertaining movie with the MST3K guys riffing it.

  • Oh cool one of my top favorite MST3K episodes wait a sec where is the riffing uh-oh

  • Y'know what might be fun? Being your own "MST3K". Just watch this or any other awful flick & do your own riffing. You can have "Riff Parties"! OR you can take the video and dub your own dialog in there, making silly voices & your own satirical jokes! That would be fun!

  • Gotta do it well and with the right people, though.

    Drove my friends crazy. XD

  • Hahaha! Nintendo Font!

  • "Past from editor to editor in a desperate attempt to save it"

  • past over editor to editor in a desperate attempt to save it god do you realize that themst3k crew had towatch hundreds of these crappy movies just to find the worst

  • Oh my God, my eyes!!!! This is total drivel, plus they couldn't afford their own special effects, so they basically nicked them from the 1978 Battlestar Galactica - which I'm surprised Glen Larson didn't sue the pants off them for. If anyone wants to see how not to write a sci-fi movie - watch this, but then you'll be spending the next 4 million years in therapy.

  • This was made all the more bearable by MST3K.

  • Blast Hardcheese!

    Thick McRunfast!

  • Uh oh, don't tell me you too wasted your money buying the original?

Yeah me too, I was just too curious about wha the full movie was like.

Thanks for uploading it for others who want to see it too.
