He was still a kid in that game. "Conker's Bad Fur Day" for the Nintendo 64 was released in 2001 after "Conker's Pocket Tales". In that game, Conker is an adult and drinks alcohol every once in a while.

I know that this is 'Conker's' first appearance, but if you've ever played Conker's Bad Fur Day, you'll know his character in that is a million miles away from the way he is in DKR. I've only played "Conker's Bad Fur Day" twice. But at least I know enough about Conker. If I'm not mistaken, his parents strictly told him not to drink alcohol when he was just a kid. But as he got older, he started drinking alcohol. And that's when he became a heavy drinker in that game. That's the Conker you know.
