All the people who say Bon Iver lacks the intensity of Adele, overthinks his music, or is too mushy, clearly hasn't seen him live, or simply listened to Skinny Love. Of all the great artists I've heard recently, No one else pours as much of their heart and soul into their music as Bon Iver does and what comes out is pure, unadulterated honesty in musical form. Maybe that's why I like Justin Vernon so much. It's not even about the Grammy's here, it's about Bon Iver, and the credit he deserves.
I don't see the big deal. The Grammy is a shiny trophy that is often based on sales projections over quality. The Grammys have always been pretty far off on the difference between what's good and what sells well, mainly because the Grammys only touch the mainstream and much great music has been underground, even with the 60's counterculture. Your favorite missed album is in the same club as Beatles, Stones and Led Zepplin records (not saying Bon Iver is on the same level as the Beatles), and I
The Grammys are a very special time of year. It's when the fans of all the bands that lose can join together in butthurtitude and bitch about the winner.
The voices are overshadowed by the 'marching to the music of something' sounds of this very poor excuse for music. This recording was waaaaay overthought, as was the voting, both likely overreacting to the effects of bad weed. Come on man!
@fullersean15 Disagree. The only award this should win is a beauty contest. Real music has grit, intensity. That is how Adele won - by singing about the pain of relationships with raw primal intensity. This is mush by comparison. But, harsh criticism aside - like all new age music before this, it has one redeeming value - it is beautiful, and that does count for something.
@vendurra The fact that you're basing all types of music on this 'raw primal intensity' and the 'pain of relationships' is nothing but biased garbage. What it really comes down to is the amount of time and effort the artist puts into his work and the opinion of the listener.
this is every Hippies lullaby, it just sounds like...... "Hippie Noise" lol the only reason i got here was cause i was lost in the web of Wikipedia / Google / YouTube PS if you got a problem with what I'm saying .... go hug a tree instead of trying to fight a point
@punkmasterflexx : That's quite imbecilic. I have friends who are hippies and they've never heard of this song. Also, a simple web search would prove that there are those who practice the similar lifestyle while detesting Holcene. So, your point about this being "EVERY hippie's lullaby" is merely a hasty generalization symptomatic of ignorance and stupidity.
Yes. It was THAT easy to own you. I guess that cancels the tiny shot of unwarranted self importance you got from leaving that comment.
This song reminds me of Calgary - specifically Banff - going up the Gondola to the mountains - the scenery, the crystal blue of the lake, the ashy whiteness of the mountains, the crisp smell of the fir trees, the energy of the natural landscape was breathtaking - magnificent - plus, up there I could see for miles miles miles ;)
Hey hey even though he went off and talked trash on an artist you like.. Dont go off naming artists gaga doesnt deserve to be named as a bad artist next to bieber..
@MarvinSongs yeah, if only the grammys stopped being a popularity contest and actually focused on talent.... remember who let the dogs out? best song of the year.... :( america
This song scares me...not really that good and your telling me this beat anything on the foo fighters new album? Well at least they got nominated for best album
@terorificjaja i never said bon iver would win but i think he is by far better than the others. its my opinion and if you dont like it.. fine, do you really want to get into a fight over such a beautiful piece of music? let the music be itself and leave it alone..
@terorificjaja That's kind of douchey. Why post that on a Bon Iver video? I like Adele and all but I prefer Bon Iver... but that's just me, and I'm not trolling Adele videos with it.
This song represents a level of quality too long absent from modern music. This band has a degree of creativity and musicianship unheard of these days. (Pun intended)
I found out about this song because of one fantastic artist, this is such a beautiful piece, but, seriously. Check out Gabrielle Aplin's cover, it's so stunning.
Up until yesterday I had never heard from Bon Iver. This is not the type of music I listen to at all. But man, somehow this song brings tears to my eyes.
:/ I can't believe nobody has gathered the fact @BonIverSUCKS is a troll. They probably do like him. -_- now shut the fuck up bitching and enjoy the fucking song.
Everyone stop hating on BonIverSUCKS! The amount of bad vibes ya'll have put out to counteract his cry for attention is leaving a bad taste in my Internet.
@pineapplesRyummie funnily enough i just discovered City and Colour yesterday through another site lol you were right in suggesting him though..his music is great
best song of the year.
