he is not living up to the reputation of the shamchaurasi gharana. all those who r being critical are not enjoying commenting here. its just bcoz all of us have come across good music and realize the difference in the singing of the maestros and the generations which have followed.the listener's ears have been used to listening to good music,we all r complaining bcoz of the fact that v like shafqat ali but at the same time we want him to develop more in the field of music to leave a mark behind.
ustad salamat ali khan was one of the best singer of all times.and because of the reputation that ustad salamat-nazakat ali khan sahab have created in the field of music, it is but obvious that people expect A LOT from his son too. shfqat ali khan is an ok singer.he doesnt even sing close to what his father did.ustad salamat ali khan's sense of laya n sur r unmatched & no one can present taans and laykari's as he did.but shfqat ali khan doesnt sing good.he has a long way to go
Shafqat Is real good in knowledge but the only thing to work on now is the higher notes because when he sing in higher oitch the notes become shouts It was never like that for Nazakat Salamat. I wish Shafqat Bhai masters the ang of his Masters.
I must say I donnot desrve to be commenting of this great lineage of singers but this fact I am mentioning is very important to a performance.

I attach two pristine examples of Malkauns: 1) The same song as above performed by the maestro Ustad Amir Khan, 2) The most amazing performance of Malkauns ever, by Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, the most prolific classical vocalist to date (no one has yet parallelled his standard).
They both were old at the time of these recordings, take this into account.

This is possibly the most unsophisticated, unrefined performance of Malkauns I have ever seen.
All you guys who are defending this and criticising those critical of his performance: bakwaas bandh karo ! You are doing a dis-service to the music.
MsRagni is 100% correct. In ke hain drama, sar nachaana. Sur kat-ta hain, harkatey galat hain, boli galat hain.
Riyaaz...is key. Don't ask me to post of a video of myself singing if anyone does I will slap them on their bald head.
