can u help me? since my stroke i cannot put weight on left arm. pls can u tell me how to get out of my kayak using one arm? now using pole i get pole btwn my legs, sit sideways use pole to pull myself out with good arm/hand. but i trying to learn how to get out without pole and no one holding my boat. weak left arm fr the stroke is my prob. ideas please? thanks karen.
You hip snap every time you do a roll. Here is how to practice. In the pool, flip over next to the edge, and hold the edge with both hands. Head should be barely underwater, and the hull completely flipped. Without using your hands too much, snap the hull upright, then with a light push off the wall, get your body out. The head comes out last. MINIMIZE the force used by your hands. Practice until it feels natural to come up this way (20 times-ish). With a good hip snap, you don't need a paddle!

When I was in my sons Orion (sea cockpit) in swell I often could not squirm out before another waive nailed the stern.
The odd time I just ended up falling sideways out: It happens.
If you can paddle and have good company I would accept getting wet when coming ashore.
You could set up an outrigger too. In truth a paddle float and a good strap system on your foredeck or rrear deck if you can reach it may work.
Good luck.

Sea kayaking is not as dangerous as you say in the video description. Lies. Not experts.

Thanks for this! You have taken the "mystery" out of the roll.
