This shows why is he is (was) the master. He is still more entertaining then just turning a box to Phil Collins music like so many do now. My hero of Magic.
Born in Winnipeg Canada and lived in Oakville Ontario :) went to school at McMaster unniversity in Hamilton. So amazing that he lived only a few minutes from my home! I wish I was alive to see it. :(
Why was Doug Henning so popular ? Why did he take magic to such heights? First of all he was an excellent magician he put in the hours he honed his magic to a fine art. Second he was a showman , he made every trick his own . But most of all and one of the reasons he will always be a favorite was that he had such a great energy ,he was so likeable. I believe the practice of T.M. helped him achieve his goals and some of his goals took us to another place and made us very happy. R.I.P. Doug
I think what works for Henning is taht he actually believes in magic.... I have neevr seen this performance before... but this is probably the first time I ever really cared about this trick.... marvelous
What he does is unique. I remember reading an article about him changing the conception of a magician wearing a black straight tuxedo into a colorful, comic and unconventional magician.
well, it's 2009 but still there isn't anyone as good as him in talking and doing what he does best.
you dumbass, even the stupid criss angel can do this if he bought one!
The origami box is not really a trick but more of an experiment in science. Like the topological marvel of the Mobius strip, a cleverly constructed piece of paper that possess only one side, the origami box illusion relies heavily upon advanced mathematics and geometry.
At the beginning of the trick both the outside and the inside of the box possess virtually the same area and are therefore very close to being the same size. However when the box is folded up, due to it's
exacting and precise construction, the surface area on the outside of the box is transferred to the inside thus increasing the surface area on the inside of the box. Therefore the surface area of the inside of the box becomes greater than that of the outside making the inside of the box bigger than the outside. The assistant actually has more room at the height of the trick than she does at the beginning and thus has no difficulty in dodging the swords while changing her outfit.
@Vugnat24 its still impossible, if the box is that big on the outside then how would it have way bigger room on the inside when its folded to the inside
It may have been created for him, but he's not performing it as effectively as he could be. The reduction of the box to a small size should be a surprise. Almost every magician I've seen perform it, except for Siegfried & Roy, starts with the box in its small and closed position.
Logan was right in a sense; the Origami has become a modern classic, yet it is true that this was created specifically for Doug Henning by Steinmeyer. Doug was the first to perform it, with his charming easy style.
Yes! this is not a classic - Doug was the first magician to perform this illusion created for him by Jim Steinmeyer - what a gorgeous prop and charming presentation - a real gem!
Hey, everyone!!!. Is not a classic. Doug is the classic and THE MAGICIAN for ever. All try to copy him. But is impossible. Doug´s magic is the best. Whatever you be now, hello.

Sad to hear him say that. "That's not going to happen in this family." Didn't he die a short time later? Very sad. Great talent and wonderful man.

It doesn't matter how many smoke and mirrors are used, it is still fascinating to watch. Now only if he could make Joan Rivers disappear
