The Krotons is a very underrated Second Doctor story. As it's only ONE of SIX complete stories from the TWENTY ONE made during the Patrick Troughton era, then we should cherish and fully appreciate every single one of them!
Zoe was always a favourite of mine. She was such a cutie and looked great in a short dress and knee length boots. Patrick Troughton was one of the best Doctors in my opinion.
When I first started watched Doctor Who on my PBS station, I thought that Tom Baker was the greatest Doctor ever then I started watching the second Doctor stories on vhs and changed my mind. Patrick Troughton was the best Doctor of the classic series! And Jamie and Zoe are my favorite companions.
Can someone please explain why BBC has State of Decay, Planet of the Spiders, Full Circle, The Awakening, The Twin Dilema, and The Masque of Mandragora blocked in the US? Come on BBC, show some respect to the American fans! Thumbs up if you agree!
Although I originally started watching the new series, I ultimately like the old Black and White episodes best (especially Patrick Troughton). God, I wonder what he'd think of Matt Smith if he were still alive!
XD Quotes of the Week -"Great jumping gobstoppers whats that" "now go away and dont fuss me, no come back whats this, its ok i know" XD i love the Second doctor - Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee are my two favourite doctors! 1966-1978 the Golden Age of Doctor Who, and Always will be. 2nd-4th doctors stories are always classics and always great fun!
Blimey, talk about your ham acting! And surely Krotons belong in a bowl of soup more than they do as characters in a storyline?
Were I not the Brit-born, sci-fi-watching child of the 70s that I am, I might just think this is all rather cheap and amateurish - with all that painfully overzealous (very British) 'shouty' acting, the ludicrous phantasmagoria (incl. character names!) etc...
As it is, I was always captured by the ambiance of this uniquely English other-worldly escapism!
On all of the classic shows people seem to be commenting about their distaste for the new series. Is it not possible to find merit in both and enjoy each for what they have to offer? There's no need to detest that which is new or different to what you experienced before.
And Doctor Who, Star Trek, and Battlestar Galactica are vastly different shows with completely different tones and attitudes. To treat them as equals is inaccurate and to treat any as below par is ignorance itself.
Who else thinks the way the Krotons indoctrinate and keep the populace stupid has a bearing on the way some American states teach creationism? That's what I love about science-fiction - the way it predicts what might happen in the future (especially 1984)
Be happy these classics are back on youtube. Several accounts where shut down over the last few years for posting these same shows. The BBC used to sell these shows on VHS and DVD, (still do, where you can find them for sale) As the old saying goes? "If you can't beat 'em? Join 'em". So they post the shows here and make a few dollars on the adverts.
If the BBC can only pull it's head out of it's butt and let people outside the UK to at least be able to view previews of the new shows.
No these days he'd probably fall in love with her,or possibly form a homo erotic relationship with Jamie.Russel T Davis' character relationships belong in hollyoaks not Dr who.
yeh i agree Russell T Davies was the wrong person to bring back Dr. Who he turned it onto an American style Sci fi like Star Trek or Battlestar Galactica, and i agree that hollyoakds style relationships have no place in Dr. Who
bollocks- he made it the best show in British TV history by incorporating RIGHT brained methodologies, thus balancing the show and creating a wider audience. Left brained & unemotional is for sexist 20th century nerds, trainspotters, and for guys without girlfriends. It needed a gay guy to sort it all out. haha :-P
@BenPN1000 Don't agree with you, Captain Jack Harkness is one of the most memorable characters in Doctor Who and Torchwood is amazing. Not everyone has to be straight, keeps life interesting yanno.
That's fine,we all have different tastes.I have nothing against gay characters in Dr who but for me he was just too cheesy.Basically a gay indestructible captain scarlet rip off.The shows ok but I do think it has the potential to be so much better.
@BenPN1000 I agree that at times Captain Jack can be either a compelling character or the least interesting thing about Torchwood - it depends who's writing him. But I do think Children of Earth was completely mind blowing and the other seasons of the show were often the best thing on television.
@hiseminencegris everyone has their own opinion for me captain jack was an alright/ ok companion even though the companion is heterosexual/bi there are still girl who fans that find him attractive and basically are in love with him but not me....................
7:15-ish, the Doctor would NEVER get away with treating his friends like that any more! Although it seems Matt Smith's not going to be shy of whacking the bad guys, going by the new trailer.
Zoe has very nice legs, the girls in this episode all seem to be wearing very short skirts. It's funny that people are slightly shocked by what Karen Gillian will be wearing when she plays Amy Pond (Matt Smith's new companion).
@batmanofni I don't understand that either, but I was a teenager in the Sixties and I buying my first Hot pink and plum British styled mini-skirt. And didn't these people watch Star Trek TOS. Uhura and Rand's skirts were thigh high.
@batmanofni In nu-hu as well as a lot of new shows they like to make up all this propaganda about what hasn't been done before and what they are doing is for the first time. Also, the main problem everyone had with Amy was that she looked too young for Stevie Muppet's overly romantic/sexual story lines. Women on modern TV keep getting younger & younger & they are turning more & more into sex-objects - this can only end badly.
A tale of the oppressed learning to fight for freedom, written by Holmes, script-edited by Dicks and directed by Maloney. I can see Doctor Who as we know it beginning...
@TOCS21: Sad to say but there are some episodes that are truly(and listerally)lost: The BBC had a junking policy in the 70s. They literally wiped(erased) the master tapes of alot of eps of Doctor Who. And no it's not all here(yet). There are still eps that haven't been posted yet. Like An Unearthly Child(First Episode and Story Arc). Some you can find on DVDs and VHS
it's true look in Wikipedia: junking policy(Wiping) under UK/BBC. They wiped alot of eps not just Doctor who(but DW seems to be notorious for the junked eps) especially the Marco Polo story arc(all episodes missing) which is why the end of Edge of Destruction 2's credits are CGI'd. The ep truly ended with them going out into the snow and seeing a giant footprint which lead into Marco Polo. With MP gone there is no way to transition into the new arc.
@batmanofni No, they junked them as they went along because there was no home video in those days, so up until the time of Jon Pertwee they were junked. If they'd waited till the eightees to junk them, they wouldn't have bothered because they could've released them on home video. Hell, I wish they HAD waited, then those stories would still be around
Lame. Is anyone else havign trouble gettign this to run properly? All I get are two commercials, then it switches back to the list of links to other clips.
This must be one of those 'lost episodes' I keep hearing about.
