The translation is a bit off. "over it are nineteen keepers" <-- this is assumed. In fact what was stated was 'over it is nineteen'.....no one knows what it really means so we assumed it says keepers.

Some suggest it has something to do with the fact that Quran is coded with this number.

In the Name of Allaah, peace be upon His Messenger,Mohammad. go to the books of tafseer (explanation)... The Jews and Christians believe their are 19 keepers. Allaah, ;Azza wa Jal,made it so as a test for the disbelievers and believers. Their is no assuming. This is the explanation of the taba'ein. (followers) As for the 'coding' of the Qur'aan, this is falsehood and a misguidance. Allaahu 'Alam.
