Im senegalese-russian.Your story(about a friendship)looks like mine. One summer Imade afriend. While we wereplaying in the neigh bourhood hisgrandpa came out and said:"You the black monkey leave your dirty black hands ofmy daughter!".When I told that to my grand parents my grandma said if my forehead was lighterthat would'nt happened.I thoughtif I was white people would more like me.All our life wewillhear stupid things.Wedon'thave tochoose between black or white, because we are both.
I don't even see why non biracial people hate on biracial people. Im not biracial and I love mixed people. I like their hair etc. My hair is naturally thick and knotty but who cares. I don't get jeoulous I just say to myself wow..... I like their hair.
hey tiff. u sound racist when u say things like... My mom tells me black girls r jeaouls of my hair. She made go to a white school cause it would be better 4 me and im glad she did. and ur mom is black?! and u always emphasize that ur friends r White. not 2 b mean.
well... it is a simple fact that i could not have gotten as good of an education as i did if I had gone to detroit city (black) public schools. there is clearly racism involved in that statement, but it doesn't stem from me. it shouldn't be that way. and black girls have been jealous of my hair as they were of my mom's long hair when she was growing up. white girls have been jealous too. and i have been jealous of both blacks and whites, so...
i agree with that. im not trying to bash anyone's parents but it seem as if she only told tiffany to beware of the "black" girls and their so called jealousy instead of telling her about racism on both sides of the spectrum, which is why i think she is uneasy around african americans today. its what you been taught at home.
It was vice versa for me interestingly enough, over here we had white racist groups like the National Front, skin heads etc, and my mother was always worried about me going out and clashing with them, but when I did go out there the trouble I came across wasn't from them half so much it was from young black people in London, she was shocked and confused when I told her because this is not what she was prepared for and it didn't make sense to her, it didn't to me either and it still doesn't.
Being a mixed race person from London,I can't say I realte to your comment at all.Did you clash with these people simply for being you or were there other reasons?
All I could see, or appeared to see in 70's London is that many young black people just seemed to go beserk, attacking innocent whites and anyone who wasn't real black, and attacking each other as well, the point I was making is that this isn't what I was prepared for, I thought that the trouble would come from racist white guys because this is what I was told, but that isn't how it looked to me, the white guys looked to be on the receiving end, sorry if I'm wrong but that's what I saw.
I don't doubt your experiences but from talking to my dad and his friends-being 'black' in 60s/70s London and England as a whole wasn't easy. The blatant racism and disenfrachisement OF that generation led to alot of reactionary anger .Also I'm sure there were white guys on the recieving end but then I'm sure there were alot of black and asian men on the recieving end of white racism.
Yes, I certainly heared about NF attack rumours, I remember once when I was walking with some friends back in 1980, both my friends were full black and another older black teen came up to us and warned us to turn back because the "NF were coming", on some march or something, but there was nothing, it just seemed to be lots of hear say and stories, however, I witnessed first hand plenty of black on white and black on black attacks though, yet oddly no white on black ones like I was told happened.
It sucked because we were best friends all thoughout middle school then when we went to hight school she just stopped speaking to me and started hanging out with the Filipino kids...
So I totally understand where you are coming from
Also, on a side note, lol...I totally see the resemblance between you and your mom! And just wondering, is your Dad Greek or Turkish...I know weird question but he kind of looks like my friend's dad who is Greek...hope you aren't offended!
Wow! This is really scary!!! I think I might have told you this but I had an incident like that in the 7th grade where my best friend (a Flipino girl) stopped being friends with me...she never said why but my mom believed it was because I was black...we have a lot of Filipinos in our area but for the most part they tend to stick to themselves so this was the conclusion that we came to...
Yea I had that happen with a girlfriend when I was about 8. HER: "My dad said I can't go with you 'cause you're black." ME: "Well tell him I'm only half black." HER, NEXT DAY: "He said being half-n-half is worse 'cause it makes you a mongrel and it means your mother is a nigger lover."
Likewise but it did give you and I a view of the real world. My younger sister by 12 years who has a different dad who is from Africa grew up in the same town and went to the same schools but had an entirely different experience. As I only connected with my black side for many years she now only connects with her white...well exempting college applications...lol!
This is my first time watching your videos. I was just wondering, are all your videos about your race? I just think its sad when people focus so much on their race and not themselves as a person. I'm black mixed with other things too but I am me...not my race. I just don't understand why people have to feel the need to identify with a specific race. Just be you. My family is all mixed up and there has never been a problem so I guess I can't relate...Oh well...
I hope my comment didn't offend you. I think its great that you identify with both races. I date white guys and when I have kids in the future (I'm only 20) I would like them to identify with both races. I just don't want their race to be their sole focus. And I would like to commend you for speaking so intelligently. I plan on watching more of your videos. I'm sure it does suck that BOTH white and black people will always view you as black. I understand how that would frustrate you.
my channel is about race :) check out my channel page. I'd love for people to see me as both, but it is more important for me to have a clear vision of myself as both first. I am very focused on myself as a person, which somehow allows me to do this. i think that in talking about race in this way we are challenged to examine ourselves and our country. I think it's sort of a cross-over topic. I'm glad you'll watch more! I appreciate your input :)
let's understand: the black people in America aren't pure African people. They are mixed with other ethnicities in their blood line. So in actual fact, if they are called black, you'd be termed black too. If this changes, and they are simply called all those cultures, then it's easy for someone who is biracial, not to call themselves black. within the system right now , its actually accurate to call yourself black, if you're biracial
i understand what you are saying. I am saying that the system does not get to decide who I say I am any longer. I am both and I will call myself such. The system can get over it! Or not...
That is not neccesarily true because africans, hatians, jamaicans, are all called black. "black" can mean whatever you want it to mean.If she chooses to call her self biracial then so be it, that is no ones business. She does not look monoracial, she looks biracial. seriously it is 2008,there are millions of multicultural people in the world so we need to have an open discussion about race and stop luming human being into categories. The one drop rule was racist so anyone who supports it is racist.
i dont support this rule, I'm merely explaining American history. If we can't call these people black, then we also can't call other people white. So there has to be change on both sides, not only on the 'black' side.
Society often views you by the colour/hue of your skin, and they would view you as black, even though you may not see it that way because you are mixed, especially if you do not look like Wentworth Miller (part Jamaican) or Mariah Carey. Live a good life hand help the less fortunate.
Came across your video by chance. Was race a factor in your parents divorce? Being an inter-racial couple in a white dominated society.By the way, I am not in a interacial relationship with my husband/kids father.
do you know that society sees you as a black women though and so does white people? im biracial as well and i can relate to you.. i dont really relate to black people.. i dunno why but my parents always tell me that they will be jellous and all that stuff... but i still identify myself as black so i definatly wouldnt be wearing a t-shirt saying that i heart black people lol... i dunno maybe its just my oppinion.
I don know that. and i still see myself as a black women first who is perhaps culturally more white. i'm trying to develop a clear sense of being entitled to claim and live and experience both sides tho. thanks for sharing your opinion. i feel like that tshirt is for black people. i can't imagine a white person wearing it with ease...
this one of my favorite video of yours your mom was hot dad made a great pick in women and dads don't get into race things because your his daughter and daughters are the most beutiful women in the world to fathers
I just feel you should not feel bad or ashamed of who you are. Its other people that have a problem with biracial children. I grew up around a ton of different cultures, races and biracial kids. I honestly dont see the big deal. You should come to NYC!
I first came upon your videos, when I was looking for advice dealing with curly hair, and products. I was wondering why your video's are called the mulatto diaries, especially when there is so much more to you than that. But this is a perfect example of racism, ignorance, and prejudice still exisiting regardless if its 2008. Comments that you have recieved in your past obviously have hurt you. I dont see a big deal with being biracial. There is so much more I want to write.
there is more to me than that :) thanks for noticing! i created this vlog to talk about biracial stuff tho. Mostly because many people don't talk about it. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
your boyfriend must be a lucky man! dont let the racism get to u it sucks how people can be so mean! theres more people who care about u then the ones who hate! u! trust me! :)
Nothing worst for a father to see his daughter mistreated Ohhhhhhhh someone needs to be hurt and Warren is red neck just kidding I did live there at one time
but i wouldn't worry too much about people, i can tell you now that most black men will be attracted to you. just keep it real to yourself and the rest will follow (i.e. friend, family etc).
tbh, i think that because you are quite good looking and light, some people will dislike you automatically. it's a shame, but i think it human nature. even as a black man, i thought, "i bet this girl think she's all that", but after watching your videos, you are very humble and a thoroughly nice person. i'm half african, half west indian and believe it or not i feel conflicted as the cultures are so different
I totally believe it! And thank you very much. i guess it is human nature, but since it doesn't serve anyone well, i wish we could overcome that one. thanks for your kind, encouraging words!
I always have parents from west indian and african american cultures. But I say im black, not the half and half because west indians are from africa also, but migrated to those islands. I agree the cultures are different and my african-american mom has felt shade from my dad's jamaican/panamanian side of the family.
ComfortingLie007- I dont get you. I say black too because I am a black man. London (where I am from) is extemely multicultural. I has 100s of thousands of Africans, West Indians, Indians, Pakistanis you name it. There are also Chinese and people from all over the world. What is different from America is that in England, people often ask where your parents are from (esp black people). In America, you can just say 'black' but in england if you said 'black', people would think you were stupid lol
Thanks for replying to my comment btw and I am sorry that your dad's side of the family were like that to your mother. Hopefully they can get over it and if they act like that again, take your mother's side to show them that you do not accept that behaviour and maybe they will stop. LOOK AFTER YOUR MOM.
lol, nah, lol. i meant 'ComfortingLie007' not you, sorry! I'll let you get back to your biracial stuff, btw on a tangent what do you think of barack obama?
i'm really not sure and utterly confused about the whole thing. i have a hard time with him not identifying more strongly as biracial, but he can identify himself however he wants and that is very judgmental of me so i'm trying to let that go and be open to him anyway. I talk about it on one of the videos but i think i just wrote the stuff i said in it here :-)
This was powerful, you are an excellent story-teller. I am starting to understand the reason why you are doing this. I think you were more open and honest on this.
The gift that you have --- you have the best of both worlds. I am glade that you acknowledge your issues that accompany the gift.
Also your Mother is very Beautiful and she have a beautiful inteligent daughter.
Thanks so much! I'm grateful for the issues because there's so much to learn from them. "Issues" sounds like a negative word for something so useful, but there's no other word i guess.
You have a beautiful family. Great video Tiff, your mom is gorgeous. That story is horrific, its amazing how adults will screw up childrens minds with fear, predjudice, and hate. Unreal. Thanks for sharing.Ciao

Word of advice..... There's going to be controversy with the subject of race (which personally, I don't think should be a subject at all). You gotta take the good AND the bad. Negative comments should only make you more convicted to do what you do. So you should thank those that are negative because they are the ones who give what you stand for grass to graze on. There wouldn't be a movement of anything without some controversy.

Being an inter-racial couple in a white dominated society.By the way, I am not in a interacial relationship with my husband/kids father.
globaljamaican 3 years ago
do you know that society sees you as a black women though and so does white people? im biracial as well and i can relate to you.. i dont really relate to black people.. i dunno why but my parents always tell me that they will be jellous and all that stuff... but i still identify myself as black so i definatly wouldnt be wearing a t-shirt saying that i heart black people lol... i dunno maybe its just my oppinion.
18kesha18 3 years ago
I don know that. and i still see myself as a black women first who is perhaps culturally more white. i'm trying to develop a clear sense of being entitled to claim and live and experience both sides tho. thanks for sharing your opinion. i feel like that tshirt is for black people. i can't imagine a white person wearing it with ease...

I just feel you should not feel bad or ashamed of who you are. Its other people that have a problem with biracial children. I grew up around a ton of different cultures, races and biracial kids. I honestly dont see the big deal. You should come to NYC!

I'm here! Very different from the lovely Midwest.

ComfortingLie007 3 years ago
there is more to me than that :) thanks for noticing! i created this vlog to talk about biracial stuff tho. Mostly because many people don't talk about it. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

I wish you could see you threw my eyes. Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Beutiful
lburianek 3 years ago
but i wouldn't worry too much about people, i can tell you now that most black men will be attracted to you. just keep it real to yourself and the rest will follow (i.e. friend, family etc).

tbh, i think that because you are quite good looking and light, some people will dislike you automatically. it's a shame, but i think it human nature. even as a black man, i thought, "i bet this girl think she's all that", but after watching your videos, you are very humble and a thoroughly nice person. i'm half african, half west indian and believe it or not i feel conflicted as the cultures are so different
alwaysclever 3 years ago
I totally believe it! And thank you very much. i guess it is human nature, but since it doesn't serve anyone well, i wish we could overcome that one. thanks for your kind, encouraging words!

I always have parents from west indian and african american cultures. But I say im black, not the half and half because west indians are from africa also, but migrated to those islands. I agree the cultures are different and my african-american mom has felt shade from my dad's jamaican/panamanian side of the family.
ComfortingLie007 3 years ago

LOOK AFTER YOUR MOM.

hi. me? it's all good now :)
tiffdjones 3 years ago
lol, nah, lol. i meant 'ComfortingLie007' not you, sorry! I'll let you get back to your biracial stuff, btw on a tangent what do you think of barack obama?
alwaysclever 3 years ago
i'm really not sure and utterly confused about the whole thing. i have a hard time with him not identifying more strongly as biracial, but he can identify himself however he wants and that is very judgmental of me so i'm trying to let that go and be open to him anyway. I talk about it on one of the videos but i think i just wrote the stuff i said in it here :-)
tiffdjones 3 years ago
cool! Unfortunately in the usa black+white=black which isn't logically right. Anyhow I wish you all the best in the future! Peace out!

I think you would be a good talk show host ;)
Shiftyeyes516 3 years ago
Thanks so much! I'm grateful for the issues because there's so much to learn from them. "Issues" sounds like a negative word for something so useful, but there's no other word i guess.

aww , yeah u just gotta ignore those types of comments case they will be hurtful in some way or the other . Just be yourself always ! :)
