  • As for paying for this: first, shift subsidies now given to oil, gas , and coal to renewables, second, increase leasing royalties for resource extraction on federal lands.

  • Sure, attempt to discredit me by calling me a liberal. Typical move for a person without a valid argument.

As to whether i know what i am talking about:

    Research has been done:

Lost Mountain: A Year in the Vanishing Wilderness: Radical Strip Mining and the Devastation of Appalachia by Eric Reece.

And please before you judge a book by its title, read it, there are many valid points.

  • Levisnteeshirt, your arguments are centered around the indirect jobs created by coal. Wind and solar will also create indirect jobs in the same way coal does. Yet what wind and solar do not have do is line the pockets of out of state corporations that rape the land of its resource, leaving behind a sterile landscape that will not reforest for generations

  • @BrownMasterFlash i'm afraid you have no idea what your talking about ,, typical liberal ,, timber grows back 5-10 times quicker on land that has surfaced mined ,,,, yeah ,, Al Gore said after he got his ass handed to him after the election ,, that coal states should get the green jobs ,,, I haven't saw , WINDMILLS-R-US opening in West Virginia lately

  • @BrownMasterFlash what amazes me the most about the typical liberal ,, is that haven't a clue how to pay for the big ideas that flows out of the clouds upon their skinny little brains,,,,, In fact , they want to destroy the industries that are paying the way for the nation that are supplying the tax base that does provide funding for their projects ,,, Search Cloward and Piven ,, the liberal bible authors and the ground work for shutting america down

  • What do the people do in the meantime? These out of state corporations set up proxy subsidiaries that go bankrupt after the mining is complete thus washing the parent companies hands of any responsibility to environmental damages, and there are many, too many too list here.

  • These corporations do not reinvest in the communities they have taken advantage of and when they leave they take all the value the land had with them. Wind and solar, if subsidized at the local and individual business and housing units level, allows you to separate yourself from reliance on environmentally harmful industries and become more self sufficient.

  • You get to keep money in your pocket and not continuously, month after month give it to others for what you could provide for yourself. This may not benefit the almighty economy, but it does benefit you and me by allowing us to keep more of our money. Sounds kind of like the Republican argument for tax breaks doesnt it?.

  • Nader = reality check. Great video.

  • maybe by 2050 ,, people with his attitude will no longer paid any attention to because the desrtuction they caused to the american economy, and the population that had to restore the nation will not be interested in someone that has alot of ideas , that have zero amount of substance ,,,,, yes we need to progress to other energy forms ,, people like Nader want a revolution ,, to do it over night ,, the losers in the deal ?? Sorry for your luck ,, its simply not responsible to think like that

  • That is the real reason wind and solar are being fought every-step of the way, and when projects do pop up they are large industrial wind farms. This is not the answer, subsidies for individuals and municipalities is the way to go. Unfortunately short term gains for a few out-trump long term financial sustainability and security for many, and it is usually done in the name of The Economy, an economy that has been manipulated to benefit the few at the detriment of many.

  • mountain top removal ,, captures coal seams that would normally be lost forever ,,, they are sometimes the highest quality coal , that can be blended with other coals to lower their emmisions ,, ,,,,, yeah right ,,, No factories are coming to WV to replace these mining jobs ,,, there hasn't yet,,, and they won't in the future ,,, i hope america stands up to these kind of people ,,,, they hate america and its industrial base at its core ,,, they want to destroy it and live in Tee Pee's

  • does this idiot know ,, coal companies compete " machines " take workers to manufacture, and maintain , transport , operate , train operators, 2-3 shifts required for operators , Massey Mining canceled over 100 million in equipment after Obama was elected ,, permanent layoffs ocured after at Caterpillar, Liberals have tunnel vision , in that they only hate corporate amercia, they have a sense of accomplishment when they take it down , perfect example with the Corvair , and VW''s continued

  • another thing coal creates is jobs ,, for people ,coal needs equipment , built by workers , trucks , tires , engines , parts , railways , locomotives , rail cars , steel for track , timber and saw mills for cross ties , paint for rail cars , health care workers for employess , housing for these workers,, every mining job creates 5 related jobs and other non related jobs , Nader worships the earth , he wants to feed the planet and starve the people , why anyone would listen to him is beyond me

  • Ralph Nader is an intelligent man with sincere intentions and good morals. That is so so so incredibly rare in American politics these days, actually non-existent, and if you Americans want to stop the decline of your great nation, and have someone who cares about you (not just lobbies) you need more people like Nader & Ron Paul. But it pains me how many retards you have in your country who would have a hard time knowing how to touch their own nose, yet alone make a conscientious decision.

  • for those of you who work in coal industry-it is sad to think of your jobs changing. The same happened to tobacco farmers in Virginia-restructuring is difficult, but coal is not clean, and cannot be made into clean energy.

I have been a teacher for 20-some years. If ever there was a profession that has had to adapt and restructure, count us in.

  • Mountaintop removal coal mining IS a crime against humanity. King coal has his foot on Appalachia's throat and has now even turned brother against brother in many situations. America needs a cleaner, more responsible energy policy - and we need to STICK TO IT. No Loop Holes.

  • don't know were u live but down were I live coal is the only thing unless we work at wall mart or fast food. and can't make a good live working there for 5 to 7 an hour and only 4 hours a day my wilf gets 7 42 hour but only get like 28 to 30 hours a week at wall mart and has to drive an hour to get there

  • Wv mining industry jobs have went from around 160,000 in the early 80's to roughly 20,000 today, and most of that is MTR jobs. They sell the idea to the public with the "jobs" and frighten them, making them believe MTR is needed for the continuity of western civilization, LOL

  • pay as you go for use of renewable resources

the Alaska Dividend idea for all resources

oil money invested in solar, returning an annual equal dividend to every adult and child

Coal mines do not pay their way, crime against humanity

  • I support Nader 2008.

  • Ralph nailing it right on the head as usual.

  • there is no such thing as clean coal, look at the mining, and even clean coal still pollutes

  • Some feel it is too expensive! Than again, most things new are expensive at first. On the other hand, some may feel that global warming is a fraud. I suggest you throw some coal all over your yard, plants, house, as well as your bath. Than tell us how coal does not effect our natural environment!

Solar & Wind Power is obviously cleaner! Wake-Up!

    Vote Nader/Gonzalez '08

  • And some people feel that the Nazi holocaust never existed. Why coddle and suck up to insane persons? Global warming exists and is mostly caused by human activity. That is a proven fact.

  • The question is: Are solar panels REALLY efficient enough to replace coal?? Or wind power? I've heard they're pretty inefficient, and you gotta pay a shitload just to get enough panels or windmills to get enough energy to replace coal or carbon.

  • Solar is plenty efficient and only expensive because there's been no investment. A little R&D would also tune things up. As with other new tech, the price drops when enough people buy the tech and better tech to make it work best will emerge. That's why Nader says in the first 100 days, he's switch the government over to solar...in this way the costs will drop for everyone else. Once you have solar systems set up, the costs are few. It's really a fraud solar technology has been suppressed.

  • A lot of the issues have already been taken care of. There are still some R&D areas in the materials science aspect of these renewable energy systems where things can be improved... but we're getting there. It's just like AIDS and Cancer. We need to get some initiatives going and get some money invested. Fuck the banks...

  • Actually, it's a known fact that if the world simply harnessed only 1% of the sun's energy that hits the earth's surface, the whole world could be powered. And let's not forget that our appliances and electronics aren't even nearly as energy efficient as they could be. Additionally, there are these neat new solar films that can be placed on just about anything. A phone, for instance, could be charging while just sitting around, no need to plug it in!

  • Ultimately, what we need is a network of renewable energy, which actually would be far more reliable than the archaic infrastructure currently in use. And if the government would stop subsidizing fossil fuels with the American people's money, far more efficient renewable energy, like solar and wind, would certainly come out on top.

  • Nader speaks the truth, he deserves to be in the debates!

  • Global Warming is a Fraud. Solar Energy it not effective enough yet, but who knows, it might work at some point.

  • réalisant mon espoir

  • That was an extremely good question, i've wondered the same thing. As always, Nader has the most rational answer.

  • I gave 5 big *****'s for the truth!

    Great Video, Karen!

    Nader Now!

  • 100 years from now, people will be shaking their sad heads that the American people voted for Bush, Gore, Kerry, McCain, & Obama over Mr. Nader.

  • go nader! most qualified for president.
