  • Where do u get balistics gel

  • Wow. Talk about a disappointment. I would expect a wax slug to act the same as their promoted claims. Any chance you can do this same test with a 12ga wax slug!?

  • Over priced.

  • one thing that sucks about this ammo is it likes to stray do to the super light weight of the round....i can shoot a 2" group @ 10 yards with a 147grain jhp but its a good 4" group with this ammo....other then this its great....thanx

  • the extreme shock rounds are used by the government in all branches..i know from talking to E.S. "owner" that Miami airport police and lots of others like this that i can not talk about use extreme shock ammo..the special branches have this as ammo but not all do to the "extreme" price..lol..but i know from what i have done with this ammo that i will put mine and my kids life on it..and i do..this is great stuff and you should retest to be fare ..i dont know if your gel is to soft or what ? the

  • Now this video is worth watching unlike most.

  • Am so glad you tested this bullet for me. I now know what not to load in my .40 cal glock. Will stick with Winchester Rangers or PDX-1 bullets. Thank you.

  • 65 degree temp on the block of gel is likely the test failing point. The metallurgy on the powder is not designed to expand at low temps- so unless you're shooting zombies I'd really like to see the results on a block of gel at average body temperature. Unless the gel melts at 98 degrees, in which case you cant properly test the powder core frangibles with it...

  • @mistressofminis

Gel will start to melt well below 98 degrees. Calibrated ordinance gel is actually at a lower temp and has to be refrigerated. I monitor the temps on this, but refrigeration is not necessary. Above a certain temp, it's too soft and the BB calibration is off.

Why do other rounds I tests in this temp range generally work? There has to be consistency in the test; this ammo failed within that protocol. If one ammo works and another doesn't, it's the ammo.

  • do it one mo gain......this ammo works !!

  • @TheSleepermgm

I'm not an expert, but THE experts will tell you that frangible handgun rounds such as this are a fail. If they worked so well, every police department in the U.S. would be using frangible handgun rounds. Few if any do. My decision on what I carry is based in part on LEO tests and/or street performance.

  • @tnoutdoors9 Yep. These things and Glasers are gimmicks. I'm sticking with Gold Dots.

  • This is great ammo....its made so that you can kill the "badguy" and not hit your kids in the other room....i know it works good do to the 1,500lb cow with one 9x19 air freedom round....works for hogs also ....if i can drop a 1500lb cow with one 9x19 round then i know the 40 will work well.....1500lbs vs 175lb man ???? what do you think ?

  • Have you tested DRT? Same idea, but without the filled in hollow point.

Thank you for all the work you've done, very enjoyable.

  • @violinjim

Yes, definite plans to test DRT in at least one caliber.

  • PLEASE!!! Test a grizzly xtreme round! I am positive you will be surprised with the results.

  • @royvaughn93

I plan to test the Grizzly round in at least one caliber.

  • I still would not wanna be shot with this or any bullet.

  • Extreme fail! Maybe 1 more try? My own personal opinion...Extreme Shock is not worth it! I still wou

  • I looked at the website for this product and their banner told me everything I need to know.

  • WERE THE FACK IS MY 5 DOALLARS

  • Wow. Massive fail!

  • i wanna see another try!

  • I would really like to see you test the 175 Gr. +P Xtreme JHP Ammo by Grizzly in .45 ACP, on you ballistics gel

  • Disappointing...

  • no boom head shot :(

  • Good video. However I would have liked to have seen a second round tested.

I'm also trying to find someone who's tested CorBon's .45ACP 230grn +P rounds in gel as that's my carry round.

  • For fuck sakes as if a normal bullet doesnt mess shit up bad enough!!

  • you should have donated that $5 to their RND department because obviously they need it.

  • look like a BIG piece of caramel !!

  • Denim: poor criminal's body armor

  • I really appreciate the time and effort that you take to get us these videos.

  • @tnoutdoors9 I think the graphs are representations of kinetic energy transfer not what the medium would look like. I'm not sure if that's what you where trying to explain. I was very surprised with this test. Thanks for taking one for the team!

  • hahaha I LOVE NCIS ! lol

  • If these "Trick" bullets worked everybody would be using it. JHPs work, hence why everybody makes their own variant.

  • WHy do people do with jell after it been used? melt down and use it agian? pls reply XD

  • @DrforkintheLung300

I can recycle this and change consistency/calibration as needed. That was a huge selling point. Most gel formats have to be tossed.

  • Anything that has big red "EXTREME" on the package, and looks like it has candy in the box is probably not good for a gun.

  • $25 for 20 uuummm, still sucks

  • The 6 people who disliked this were liberals.

  • Just shoot the stuff out of it. I'm sure some will explode. Who wears 4 layers of denim anyway?

  • @TheHortond The point is that it's a test of the "worst-case scenario". Yes, it's extremely unlikely that someone will be wearing 4 layers of denim, but it's comforting knowing that if someone is you can rely on your ammo. That's why this is a testing standard. You don't test the ideal scenario because real-life situations are rarely ideal. You test things attempting to make them fail so you know what they're capable of.

  • I trust your judgement. I've only recently subscribed and find your videos nothin entertaining and insightful.

  • These rounds are relatively new to the pre-frag market when compared to the other pre-frag companies. Extreme Shock is going out of business if I'm not mistaken. I've tested both Magsafe and Glaser rounds which have been around for almost 40 years and have been perfected. I don't use them for social work though, great for taking out caged animals without damaging the cage on the other side of the critter. Comparing Extreme Shock to Glaser is insulting.

  • is it too late to raise that bet? LOL

  • Love your vids.. Always great insight .. I was wanting to pick everyone's brain as to what's the best ammo for home defense.. Something that can stop a bad guy but not continue through walls and injure a sleeping child in the next room??

  • Sorry you lost your bet but it was only a drop in the bucket compared to the cash you had to lay down for the twelve rounds of big-dollar, astonishing, talc-like ammo.

  • Can you do a test on Mag Safe in .40? Would love to see that. Nice test BTW was surprised extreme shock didn't work.

  • Excellent vid! Thank You!

  • Where is a list of tests? Excellent job?

  • Expensive cor bon powerball. Great vid.

  • Comment removed

  • Great video!!. I hope people are paying attention to this before they get mislead by an over advertised built up product such as this.

  • I agreed with opisex tn in my opinion you make some of the best if not the best ballistic test here youtube hell I think ammo manufacturer's should start to donate ammo to you so we all can see if think can really back up some of their so called marketing gimmicks

  • Ah hell that last comment was a bit early, omit it pls.

  • Wow man, these even expand faster than hornady critical defense rounds..

  • Two thumbs up for great video and useful information. thanks

  • Another great video. Intersting round, but Ill have to pass on this one.

  • Why the denim?

  • ill take that bet, lol

  • MAY AS WELL SHOOT .308 FOR THAT PRICE...

  • Don't sell your self short you're ballistic tests are as good as anyone's, I love'em

As for the round I actually figured it would basically cause a very shallow but large wound.

Even if they worked as advertised They would not be worth the money imo.

btw im curious do you mix up a fresh batch every time or is it possible to melt and reform the gel?

  • @opisex

Each block is melted, particles strained, then recast. It takes approx. 4 days before it's good to go again. I use a 24" Stanley toolbox for the mold. Even with it being sealed, if a block sits for 10-14 days it can get below spec, as in less than 3.25 BB penetration. When that happens, I simply remelt and add appropriate amounts of water. That also screws up my testing schedule. I'm coming up on the one year anniversary of using this stuff.

  • @tnoutdoors9 great channel and awesome reviews!! you get down to the point and know what youre talking about!! ive made quite a few purchases of sd ammo from your reviews.have you tested hornady zombie max in the .40 s&w?

  • Extreme Fail more like it. Oh well, I was betting with you TN not against you.

  • EPIC FAIL!

  • We've used extreme shocks on pumpkins / watermelons. For the price point I would much rather use hollow points instead.

Any hunters have experience? They would know best. My pumpkin hunting doesn't count for much.

  • Way cool ballistics test. Gee, that ammo sure is a little costly. Oh, I will let you know where to send that five bucks. I was really expecting some more from that ammo. Great video and very well done ballistics test.

  • wouldn't waste my money on something that may or may not work

  • u measured .380avg.,measure a new bullet,see what you get.iam thinkin u tumbled b4 entering denim. i got .398" on a 155gr ranger jhp. u may not b engaging rifling well.

  • Very interesting... I was think about buying this round for home protection... How ever the legal ramifications in Kalifornia maybe beyond what I am willing to deal with.... And you showed that no ammo is100% all the time. Thanks!

  • @ashepp7 hydroshocks dude. Keep it simple. The goal is NOT to over penetrate and not to go through objects, just stop the bad guy. Thats it. No real legal ramifications to worry about. You are either scared for your life and put in a position to defend it or youre not.

  • oh gee

  • Probably Extreme Shock guys hates you. LOL. Thanks man

  • Thank you very much for testing this hyped up round. I much rather have a heavy hard hitting massive expanding round. HSTs, Ranger-Ts, & Gold Dots, I'm completely loyal to them.

  • Ill stick with my ranger Ts

  • Sometimes I wonder if companies tell the truth

  • Have you tried CorBon's version the Glazer "Safety Slug"?

  • I'll stick to my proven $1 a round defense loads.

  • Try this test again please... I would really like to see what would happen IF it did expand.. If you got the time, thanks.

  • Do you know if Extreme Shock has a new telephnoe number tried calling them on the phone listed on their web site unable to get through got a sound like a fax machine. Iused tjhis ammo on a side of beef made quite an impressive entry wound veryexpensive not target ammo for sure. Also they claim they are lead free but I'm wondering how carcinogenic might be the so call Nytryilum powder.

  • It is expensive but it's not ammo for the range, it's ammo you buy once and hope to never have to shoot.

I use it for my carry gun at work because I have businesses on both sides of my shop. I don't want my rounds to penetrate walls and harm innocent people.

  • Dear Sir,

Yours is the one of the most detailed and scientific ballistic analysis I have witnessed in a long time. Thumbs up and subscribed. Will be visiting again soon.

  • Extreme Shock is what you get when you see the price. That's because "Tungsten-Ny Tryllium" is manufactured from unobtanium which is mined all way over in Whatchacallitstan.

  • Lol, definitely not a round I'm looking to buy XD

  • You sir owe me 15 dollars... i will accept payment in ammunition

  • Interesting results when you consider the mfg claims.

You must have one extensive Excel spreadsheet in that Area 51 bunker!

  • 100 gr. bullet out of .40 s&w, waste of money.

  • WASN'T MAGSAFE THE GREATEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD?

  • Thank you another informative video

  • very very good video, excellent work here.

  • That's gay! At $2.50 - $3.00 a round, that son of a gun better work every time.

  • I asked for this, thank ya' sir :D

  • LOL...They should call it "Extreme Suck"

  • ncis ftw

  • So these $3 a piece rounds are great for naked people. ; )

  • great review

  • great review

  • Thanks for the look. My .40 will carry other, street proven ammo. It is nice to see that other manufactures are thinking outside the box, but this one is not for me.

  • Never trusted this gimmick ammo. Thanks for spending your money so I didn't have to. HST/Gold Dots fo life.

  • I wear 5 layers of denim just to be safe

  • Thank You Very Much! We appreciate someone going through the expense and time to give us the TRUTH. $2.50 a shot!?! That would add up to some serious change for a Glock 22 or 23 and a spare mag. Forget practicing with the stuff to see if it functions reliably.

  • I just like these videos. $2.50-$3 a round makes my wallet cramp. This stuff just screams gimmick. Golden sabers, gold dots, ranger t's, federal hst/tatical, and cor-Bon dpx( or any other round loaded with that same Barnes bullet) would be my personal choices.

  • really cool video brother

  • reminds me of powrball ammo!!

  • I'll stick with Hornady TAP FPD.

  • how fast was the bullet traveling? FBI has studies the JHP only expand 65% of the time. Did i miss info a the gun used? ... great stuff as always

  • Guess it would work pretty good if your being attacked by a nudist

  • how do you think these comapare to the pow-r-ball ammo?

  • Garbage Ammo

  • That's some expensive ammo.

  • I wonder if the lack of velocity had anything to do with the test failure.

  • thats sucks...$3 per round and the damn bullet fails

  • awsome vid

all the best for the new year

  • Good video. Don't buy this...

  • If an advertising claim sounds too good to be true, it usually is. I'll stick with the Speer Gold Dot JHP.

  • @VonSpyder Lol ... Canadiens. Funny but very true

  • NCIS rules.

  • Even if it did work, still not worth the money.

  • This is one very expensive FMJ round.

  • how about that over priced bs right there...didnt see that coming, you ever test those Glaser safety slugs? wonder how they'd work

  • you buy this, you get a scam

  • The reason the standard is 4 layers of denim is because we are planning on defending against Canadian criminals. In all seriousness though, 4 layers of denim should not have prevented this round from performing as advertised if theyre charging more than two bucks per round; thats just a rip off. If youre in a plane use less-than-lethal ammo, anywhere else use a JHP. plain and simple.

  • Love NCIS!

  • Multiple tests would give helpful averages, unless you already do this.

  • i have always been weary of that ammo. Now I know for sure. I will stick with Federal HST.

  • when it comes to handgun rounds Saftey Slugs are way more nasty and are a lil more safer when it comes to penitration and a doctors nightmare. but a good ol shot gun with bird shot loaded in it is by far the best home defense. 7 1/2 shot will never go through a wall maybe at point blank but it will still rat hole somebody real nice at close range.

  • @benz254 Will the bullet explode in the chest cavity or against bone and barely nick heart or lungs? I'ld stick with good old hollow points for handguns

  • @mojothemigo O yea man me too im just talkin over penitraition.

  • @benz254 Good luck killing a crack head with 7 1/2 shot. Birdshot is worthless for penetration. I'll take 00 buck instead.

  • @huntwithairguns again im not talkin about killin the crack head im talkin about NOT killin my neighbor and just stoppin the crackhead or wounding to the point that i can take over the situation. you cant tell me anykind of shotgun round is goin to put somebody in there place.

  • @benz254 If someone breaks into your house, there is a decent change they are hopped up on drugs. Those little tiny BB's aren't going to do much to him. I'd rather kill the intruder than to have to deal with him in court. At least use some larger sized shot than 7.5.

  • @Composer1777 Many of the people I've interviewed say they aren't made of ballistics gel; you know, they seem to think they've got muscles, bones and fat and stuff. A bullet which penetrates 17" in gel would probably penetrate people material a little less readily.

A nice sharp sword or baseball bat would be a better apartment defense weapon than gimmicky ammo few people would want (or could afford) to function test in their firearms.

  • What really makes me giggle is this: even though the round failed to expand, the resulting wound might have been better at incapacitating a bad guy than a wound generated by its "optimal" performance.

Anyway, that $5 bet is more than covered by all of the tests you've done. For all of their fury in marketing, we don't see the manufacturers doing publicly available ballistics tests like yours!

  • Wow, that's a bummer.

  • Never seen a naked Zombie before....

  • You owe me $5, send it to the usual address

  • A man can learn alot from Gibbs!

  • this is not for me i will stick with speer gold dots...

  • No thank you wouldnt trust it! Thanks for the video

  • this is why i never spend money on so-called "special" rounds like this

  • Good video, I actually have some of that ammo but it seems gimmicky to me and a rip at the price

  • but who wears FOUR layers of DENIM?

  • @jepp114

Typical blue jeans are double layered. Think of the four layers as someone wearing Carhartt or other heavy-duty work apparel.

  • @jepp114

    Dolly Parton and her entourage?

  • @tnoutdoors9

I think her exact words were, "Like trying to put 50 pounds of flour in a five pound sack."

  • @tnoutdoors9 that'd be 4 layers of denim and about 18 inches of silicone!

  • Too Much $ for not enough Performance. I have been telling my Brother for years this stuff is Crap for self defence.. Still sticking to the Gold Dot / Ranger T Series and Critical defense thanks to you! lol

  • Think they would be awesome for showing off to your buddies at the range, by blowing up melons and milk jugs and stuff. Other than that, more trouble than they are worth. For the record, Abby is the one that keeps Gibbs informed on ballistics. ;-)

  • @HawkLMT

Yeah, I know that Abby does all the lab work, just didn't want to mention her name and distract everyone.

  • Well they said on their advertising disintegrates on HARD targets interior walls etc... should starts doing dry wall testing with hollowpoint ammo.

  • But i would love to see this ammo with a bare block and some melons. After seeing the water jug i really determine to find out whats the cause of the tungsten tip to not expand with the denim. Ive seen many vids with bare gel and plain barrel and water and that ammo had me convinced. Keep up the good work!!!

  • I'll pass.

  • Thanks for making this vid, ive bought a few boxes of their air freedoms, extreme penetrations, and fang face. But neatly to say i keep critical defenses in all my home defenses. They discontinued their fang face due to hollowpoint issues in their state, and to save cost the plug the hollow cavity with a copper plug instead of tungsten. Thanks again for replying to my post about this ammo.

  • Pretty sure you owe everyone $5

  • @lips2mike

I'll make a detailed video of a $5 bill and upload it.

  • Extreme Shock ? More like Extreme Fail LOL, am i right ? I remember the first time i saw this ammo on the internet years ago, and i never could take it seriously, and after this video, nothing has changed. What i wanna know is how is this company still in business ?

  • Thanks for sharing . I still cant believe the price they want for 6 bullets. It was an epic fail right there.

  • Ideal ammo for a zombie outbreak at a nudist colony and/or beach resort.

  • hens the saying . al bust a cap in your ass

  • Why did I think these were 40mm grenades...

  • Again, excellent research. I would've lost my $5 too

    Thanks from Memphis

  • Great test, I will stick with HST

  • Holy crap I can get .50 BMG for slightly LESS than that!

  • I would not trust my life with this "exotic" ammo, but for people that do, they can always hope that if the sucker hits bone it will perform well.

  • can i have the bullet heads?

  • @mawadg

All ammo test results.....bullets, expended brass, video files on DVD, photos, water jugs, hair follicle samples, etc., are sent to an underground bunker near Area 51 in Nevada.

Seriously, I use the tested bullets to fill potholes in my driveway; it's the Tennessee way.

  • @tnoutdoors9 amen

  • I agree with your decision to not retest, but for a different reason. In a self defense situation, the round you fire must perform first time, every time or you can't count on it. You fired that round, it didn't expand, the bad guy wasn't stopped and now you are a victum. Seems to me there are plenty of cheaper and more dependable choices of ammo out there.

  • Looks like $2.50 worth of hyped up garbage

  • @tnoutdoors9 Thanks for the video and thanks for sticking to your guns and not retesting... you get one chance, right? What if that had been the chambered round and you had to defend yourself... You may not get a second chance in that situation either. Keep up the good work. Happy New Year!

  • I guess you can only use this round on bad guys that are naked.

  • <
