At first I thought that LaCroix was homosexual (takes one to know one), but now that I see what Ming Xiao says and how she says it, it's obvious to me that they sound like ex-lovers. Though, LaCroix also sounds like that when he speaks to Nines. Bisexual vampire, anyone?
Anyhow, I agree with the comment below, this ending has everything to be an action movie.
In all honesty, I can't imagine why someone would consider this a bad ending; you are not dead, you are going to escape and get a slowly but surely revenge. It's very interesting how you would do this without anyone's help, since all kindred society hates you now. Then again, it's not like you had all the help in the world before.
Just by thinking about it plays itself in front of me like a movie. Very interesting indeed.

I fail to see how this would do anything to a vampire who had at least 2 or 3 strength stat. They could just break the ropes and swim for shore. Sure, they'd be hated by Californian vampires, but they could find some refuge elsewhere. I also fail to see how any of the vampire protags could have let themselves get subdued by Ming Xiao and a few of her bodyguards, since you easily beat her without having any necks to feed off of.
I screwed everyone. Remember what the thin-blood seer said on the beach, when you asked who you could trust? "The man on the couch... The lone wolf..." Beckett and Mercurio. :3
I don't really see why this is a "bad ending".... If I am not misstaken, vampires cannot drown. And when the player would be low on blood, he would probably frenzy and in the process free himself.

for 13th Gen vamp you play a pretty strong vamp. But it is hinted that the Dark Father watches over you. Well yeah maybe it is Caine, whether or not he is, VTMB is not cannon.

Granted, Whitewolf is a fan of the 'throw out what you don't like' mentality, so when you play the P&P version, you could eaisly say that Caine had nothing to do with the game. While I have been told that Caine was sleeping during the events of VTMB, the simple fact that Caine is Caine means that doesn't mean shit.
The VTMB timeline is mentioned in Whitewolf's novels of the final nights. But oh well there is a P&P campaign of the finl nights where the group can meet Caine if the game master wishes.
Holy crap. LaCroix is more dramatic than I thought........crud he's cute though. But still.....Ming-Xiao with the whole "Attempt some final bargain for that handsome head of yours." and the "sweet prince.". When I play this game, if I screw up and get this ending, I'm gonna have the urge to scream at my computer saying, "Back off, he's mine!"
Meh, if I'd done this ending I'd be asking why my char didn't use Celerity and kill those puny humans before they realize she's moving, like usual, and then blast Xiao to pieces with her half dozen different guns. Like she actually did in the ending I played.

Europe has always had vampire stories, China has always had jiangshi stories. Jiangshi are similar to Europe's vampires or revenants, so why wouldn't White Wolf capitalize on Oriental myths and legends like they did with pretty much everywhere else? The devs even threw one of White Wolf's native African vampires in this game, after all.
@daggerls Yeah, I think "jiangshi" sounds better anyway. Of course, there's still debate over whether jiangshi are more akin to the West's vampires, zombies, revenants or a "special case" like the Headless Horseman.

Blood Shield, a few Blood Boils and some Blood Salvos or Blood Strikes to keep the Blood Pool from going empty--along with running circles to see how many goons get hit by friendly fire--might have taken care of her lackeys. After that, it would just be you and Ming Xiao.
And then it would just be you and LaCroix. What would happen then?
@BloodyBay considering the fact that both are at disanvatage they probably fight along and lacroix would be a pansy ventrue with probably 5 dominte 2 fortite and a 4 prsnce and very luosy physical atributes and high social skills. after the fight it should be force him to join you cause you're both screwed since you both dealt with kuei-jin or kill ;open the sarcophag for yourself or for him and become toast like his ending or not opening it and leave with the intent to gain status unaligned.
The Kuei Jin or Vampires of the East see Kindred as sort of abomination. The KJ are created thru some sort of ritual, only exist to serve a certain purpose which they need to unveil - even if it takes eternity to do so. Now the sireing of a Childe is a somewhat "unholy" process. Vampirism is a "plague" in the eyes of the K.J., so therefore little wonder they dump the player strapped to Messarachs casket into the ocean. I always let LaCroix blow himself up or get the Primogen to arrest him.
@OhStylo No. A Kuei-Jin is created when they die and take the second breath. This is not a 'ritual' like the kindred's embrace.
While most Kuei-Jin see it as a spiritual awaking or as enlightenment. It is mealy dying and returning as a supernatural being.
Ming-Xiao probably doesn't mention this part of it because of their initial Chih-Mei state that they have to drag themselves from and this isn't enlightenment at all.
@AgentGrady Kuei-Jin do not see the siring as 'unholy' either. While most Kuei-Jin see kindred as lesser beings or devils. They mainly hate kindred because of their growing and previous presence in countries with a Kuei-Jin presence such as India, China, Japan and Korea. It is not by religious zeal, it is because Kindred tried to invade the middle kingdom, violating Kuei-Jin feeding grounds.
remember the kindred started the war, the Kuei-Jin are only continuing it with "The Great Leap Outward”.

But when one first just plays the pc-game (like me) you don't get the full insight on the whole history of the White Wolf Saga and the setting the whole story is set in. The game just scratches a bit on the KueiJin and many other parts and that's it - well at least I didn't get behind the point on so many things by just playing the game, meaning every1 HAS to look on WW's other games and stories to make sense of it all. It would be very interesting to continue the story of your character after some decades when you are an important primogen or even prince of the camarilla, or one of the founding fathers of the free republic of north america (or something like this), and, in a desperate trial to resist against the new order you started in 2004, the sabbat would sacrifice itself by blowing the masquerade everywhere and sending agents to proove the people the existence of the vampires,
Who bought Troika Games? Maybe the new owner could still make a sequel to the anarch or the camarilla ending of this game. The masquerade isn`t just the best game about vampires, it is one of the best games made ever on my opinion! Some might say that it has too much bugs or it hasn`t too good graphics, but the essence of a game is a beautifully crafted storyline which absorbes you in the action and makes you feel the new world which opens around you, not some fancy graphics...
This is just a possible scenario, (you could also run to europe to be sure that you don`t have to deal with the Kuei Jin anymore, since they are too much and invincible when you have been liberated :)) ) but you all have to agree that sooner or later between 2003 and 2100, something or someone should discover your body and free you... unlike the cases when you explode in La Croix`s office. I still prefer the Camarilla and anarch ending myself, but I just say that this one isn`t the worst.
Well, at least this ending is better than the La Croix ending or the no allegiance one, because you don`t die, and if nobody finds you in the bottom of the ocean, at least an idiot shark could free you of the sarcophagus after some time...
And then you could try to get your revenge by killing Ming Xiao and destroying the Kuei Jin with the help of the few kindred from California who were not killed yet, and find if Nines or Strauss are still alive...
i like this ending. We - the Sarcophagus and i - are alone and forgotten at the ground of the sea... It's a great pity what world really ended in 2004

Played through as Malkavian and Gangrel. Malks are definitely more fun to play and much more deadly. You just obfuscate and kill everything, and they don't have to hide like the Nosferatu.

Pfft. Real-world aside (and I have known my share of good, trustworth Asians), there were people in Chinatown who were decent folks. Shou (the gunman you have to save from the tong's assassination attempt) was pretty cool, as were Wong Ho and Yuki.

Hey, I played this game a while ago and thought it was fantastic. Can anybody RECOMMEND me a game that is similiar to this style of gameplay and (for a bonus) atmosphere. It doesn't necessarily need to be a vampire game. Thx.
@SkaterK3 Unfortunately there's not a game I'm aware of that matches the gameplay and atmosphere. Fallout 3 has a much better version of this type of gameplay, combined with a huge open world, but it doesn't have the cool World of Darkness atmosphere. If you dig fantasy, check out Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. That was made by the same people as Fallout 3. I really wish they'd make a next gen version of Vampire, but seeing as this one didn't sell so well, I guess that's never going to happen : (
Dragon Age: Origins. If you liked this game, you'd LOVE that one. Its the same kind of role playing style as Vtm: B but its got a kind-of mideval feel to it (since thats its setting pretty much.) I highly reccomend it.
4example this hapenned to me once: In the intro, penalty for creating a new kindred was already done, however, prince said 'Forgive me' just for himself :D
The Lin Kuei is Sub-Zero's Chinese ninja clan (though to the best of my knowledge, China never had any ninja clans...but it's a video game, so nevermind...).
And bok choy is Chinese cabbage. It makes a good soup if you add ginger and garlic oil. Delish. :-)
Actually, silver usually isn't baneful to the Kindred, though in the tabletop Vampire RPGs there is a flaw which you can take to make your vampire vulnerable to silver, if you don't mind paying such a price for another advantage or two.
But, seeing as there's no such flaw in Bloodlines, we'll just have to assume ordinary ropes or chains, which can still bind a vampire if you do it right. Too bad Bloodlines Kindred don't have mist form or whatnot....
Well in vampire the masquerdae redemption there was a lasombra priest who slept on a giant silver cross and Oris said it was most uncomfortable so i think silver dose have an effect on you and you do all these quests that would've kill a lesser vampire and still get done way with normal chains and ropes sound REALLY stupid.
I remember the Lasombra priest. It could be that he had the silver vulnerability too (and no one in your party did, since Christof and company could wield silver batons without coming to any harm or discomfort).
Or it could simply be that the priest was uncomfortable because lying on a solid metal surface for hours on end would cause a really nasty crick in the neck. Vampires have Comfort gauges too. Just ask The Sims 2. ;-p
He was uncomfortable because it was a cross. Remember he wanted to be killed and "go to heaven" so what better way to sleep on a cross. VtM-R took that idea that Vampires are bothered by crosses (Seen Dracula?) That's why as a Vampire, Christof wasn't able to wear a holy cross.
This is worse fate than lacroix sideing. THe best option is to play as a gangrel(male) and side with no one. And the you say fuck off to anarch while your dreads move in the night air

Eastern Vampires, mostly from China. They feed on blood and can't go out in sunlight, but are otherwise very different from Western vampires, hence why they screw the character over. I don't know what their basis in real mythology is, but given that they are a World of Darkness race, chances are they have one.
in VTM depends you can wake up whenever if you go into torpor but if your put into torpor via blood loss then you need to be woken up with blood,however something tells me a member of the 3rd generation wouldnt have been placed in torpor by another, the third generations power is that of a demi god almost, and the 4th generation methuselah's are powerful enough... when they get angry the weather changes and vegitation dies amongst other things.
Yeah, but Caine himself would be on a level of basically god. Only the second generation could even hope to hold a candle to him, and sadly they were wiped out by the 3rd generation. Which leaves even the antideluvians in a screwed position if Caine decides to go on a rampage. Remember, he's like 6,000 years old!
I think they made a game prior to this one where it starts off during the great crusades and spans all the way into the modern age. It's sort of like Baldur's Gate gameplay. You play as a crusader who's embraced and lives up to the modern day. I haven't seen the game in stores, but I really want to give it a try!
The speech really pulled that game together. I think one of my favorite bits of Redemption was where Pink finally dropped his facade. Ever since you met Pink, he was speaking this loutish "Low English" brogue. But after he diablerized Anton Giovanni, he dropped the accent, started speaking with a Middle Eastern accent and revealed that he was actually an Assamite--not a Brujah--before vanishing. Talk about a bait-and-switch. o.o

Europe has always had vampire stories, China has always had jiangshi stories. Jiangshi are similar to Europe's vampires or revenants, so why wouldn't White Wolf capitalize on Oriental myths and legends like they did with pretty much everywhere else? The devs even threw one of White Wolf's native African vampires in this game, after all.

@vanhell0 ...especially if you have high Dominate, Presence or Dementation. But even maxed Thaumaturgy could have seen my Tremere through that fight. Blood Shield, a few Blood Boils and some Blood Salvos or Blood Strikes to keep the Blood Pool from going empty--along with running circles to see how many goons get hit by friendly fire--might have taken care of her lackeys. After that, it would just be you and Ming Xiao.
And then it would just be you and LaCroix. What would happen then?

@BloodyBay considering the fact that both are at disanvatage they probably fight along and lacroix would be a pansy ventrue with probably 5 dominte 2 fortite and a 4 prsnce and very luosy physical atributes and high social skills. after the fight it should be force him to join you cause you're both screwed since you both dealt with kuei-jin or kill ;open the sarcophag for yourself or for him and become toast like his ending or not opening it and leave with the intent to gain status unaligned.

The Kuei Jin or Vampires of the East see Kindred as sort of abomination. The KJ are created thru some sort of ritual, only exist to serve a certain purpose which they need to unveil - even if it takes eternity to do so. Now the sireing of a Childe is a somewhat "unholy" process. Vampirism is a "plague" in the eyes of the K.J., so therefore little wonder they dump the player strapped to Messarachs casket into the ocean. I always let LaCroix blow himself up or get the Primogen to arrest him.

Childe - a Vampire in general, not only newborn one (that'd be a 'fledgling' I guess)
Kindred - the Race of all Vampires regardless of lineage or Clan.
And Kuei Jin AREN'T really vampires. They are best described as... Kuei Jin.

@OhStylo No. A Kuei-Jin is created when they die and take the second breath. This is not a 'ritual' like the kindred's embrace.
While most Kuei-Jin see it as a spiritual awaking or as enlightenment. It is mealy dying and returning as a supernatural being.
Ming-Xiao probably doesn't mention this part of it because of their initial Chih-Mei state that they have to drag themselves from and this isn't enlightenment at all.

@AgentGrady Kuei-Jin do not see the siring as 'unholy' either. While most Kuei-Jin see kindred as lesser beings or devils. They mainly hate kindred because of their growing and previous presence in countries with a Kuei-Jin presence such as India, China, Japan and Korea. It is not by religious zeal, it is because Kindred tried to invade the middle kingdom, violating Kuei-Jin feeding grounds.
remember the kindred started the war, the Kuei-Jin are only continuing it with "The Great Leap Outward”.

@AgentGrady You got it right, I forgot about the "enlightment" part. But when one first just plays the pc-game (like me) you don't get the full insight on the whole history of the White Wolf Saga and the setting the whole story is set in. The game just scratches a bit on the KueiJin and many other parts and that's it - well at least I didn't get behind the point on so many things by just playing the game, meaning every1 HAS to look on WW's other games and stories to make sense of it all. Thx.

My perfect ending would have been to rule the city by Ming-Xiao's side.
She was definitely the best character in the game. I mean really love Ming-Xiao.
If a sequel is ever made High Priestess Ming-Xiao should be brought back.
They should have it that when the main character 'killed' Ming-Xiao, she only went into little death and returns to life 3 or 2 days later.
So then Ming-Xiao can live again and take revenge on those that brought her death.

It would be very interesting to continue the story of your character after some decades when you are an important primogen or even prince of the camarilla, or one of the founding fathers of the free republic of north america (or something like this), and, in a desperate trial to resist against the new order you started in 2004, the sabbat would sacrifice itself by blowing the masquerade everywhere and sending agents to proove the people the existence of the vampires,

Who bought Troika Games? Maybe the new owner could still make a sequel to the anarch or the camarilla ending of this game. The masquerade isn`t just the best game about vampires, it is one of the best games made ever on my opinion! Some might say that it has too much bugs or it hasn`t too good graphics, but the essence of a game is a beautifully crafted storyline which absorbes you in the action and makes you feel the new world which opens around you, not some fancy graphics...

This is just a possible scenario, (you could also run to europe to be sure that you don`t have to deal with the Kuei Jin anymore, since they are too much and invincible when you have been liberated :)) ) but you all have to agree that sooner or later between 2003 and 2100, something or someone should discover your body and free you... unlike the cases when you explode in La Croix`s office. I still prefer the Camarilla and anarch ending myself, but I just say that this one isn`t the worst.

Well, at least this ending is better than the La Croix ending or the no allegiance one, because you don`t die, and if nobody finds you in the bottom of the ocean, at least an idiot shark could free you of the sarcophagus after some time...
And then you could try to get your revenge by killing Ming Xiao and destroying the Kuei Jin with the help of the few kindred from California who were not killed yet, and find if Nines or Strauss are still alive...

Played through as Malkavian and Gangrel. Malks are definitely more fun to play and much more deadly. You just obfuscate and kill everything, and they don't have to hide like the Nosferatu.

Pfft. Real-world aside (and I have known my share of good, trustworth Asians), there were people in Chinatown who were decent folks. Shou (the gunman you have to save from the tong's assassination attempt) was pretty cool, as were Wong Ho and Yuki.

@SkaterK3 Unfortunately there's not a game I'm aware of that matches the gameplay and atmosphere. Fallout 3 has a much better version of this type of gameplay, combined with a huge open world, but it doesn't have the cool World of Darkness atmosphere. If you dig fantasy, check out Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. That was made by the same people as Fallout 3. I really wish they'd make a next gen version of Vampire, but seeing as this one didn't sell so well, I guess that's never going to happen : (

Dragon Age: Origins. If you liked this game, you'd LOVE that one. Its the same kind of role playing style as Vtm: B but its got a kind-of mideval feel to it (since thats its setting pretty much.) I highly reccomend it.

The Kuei-Jin are the vampires of the Orient.
The Lin Kuei is Sub-Zero's Chinese ninja clan (though to the best of my knowledge, China never had any ninja clans...but it's a video game, so nevermind...).
And bok choy is Chinese cabbage. It makes a good soup if you add ginger and garlic oil. Delish. :-)

Actually, silver usually isn't baneful to the Kindred, though in the tabletop Vampire RPGs there is a flaw which you can take to make your vampire vulnerable to silver, if you don't mind paying such a price for another advantage or two.
But, seeing as there's no such flaw in Bloodlines, we'll just have to assume ordinary ropes or chains, which can still bind a vampire if you do it right. Too bad Bloodlines Kindred don't have mist form or whatnot....

Well in vampire the masquerdae redemption there was a lasombra priest who slept on a giant silver cross and Oris said it was most uncomfortable so i think silver dose have an effect on you and you do all these quests that would've kill a lesser vampire and still get done way with normal chains and ropes sound REALLY stupid.

I remember the Lasombra priest. It could be that he had the silver vulnerability too (and no one in your party did, since Christof and company could wield silver batons without coming to any harm or discomfort).
Or it could simply be that the priest was uncomfortable because lying on a solid metal surface for hours on end would cause a really nasty crick in the neck. Vampires have Comfort gauges too. Just ask The Sims 2. ;-p

He was uncomfortable because it was a cross. Remember he wanted to be killed and "go to heaven" so what better way to sleep on a cross. VtM-R took that idea that Vampires are bothered by crosses (Seen Dracula?) That's why as a Vampire, Christof wasn't able to wear a holy cross.

I don't remember where I heard this from, but vampires don't die from not drinking any blood, they just become really thin and weak, like how starving Sumalians look like.

The bottom of the ocean is pretty dark. With all that briny ocean water, sunlight completely diffuses around 30 or 40 fathoms, IIRC.
The vampire will be fine. Lonely, bored and VERY thirsty for blood, but otherwise fine. :-)

Eastern Vampires, mostly from China. They feed on blood and can't go out in sunlight, but are otherwise very different from Western vampires, hence why they screw the character over. I don't know what their basis in real mythology is, but given that they are a World of Darkness race, chances are they have one.

in VTM depends you can wake up whenever if you go into torpor but if your put into torpor via blood loss then you need to be woken up with blood,however something tells me a member of the 3rd generation wouldnt have been placed in torpor by another, the third generations power is that of a demi god almost, and the 4th generation methuselah's are powerful enough... when they get angry the weather changes and vegitation dies amongst other things.

Yeah, but Caine himself would be on a level of basically god. Only the second generation could even hope to hold a candle to him, and sadly they were wiped out by the 3rd generation. Which leaves even the antideluvians in a screwed position if Caine decides to go on a rampage. Remember, he's like 6,000 years old!

I think they made a game prior to this one where it starts off during the great crusades and spans all the way into the modern age. It's sort of like Baldur's Gate gameplay. You play as a crusader who's embraced and lives up to the modern day. I haven't seen the game in stores, but I really want to give it a try!

sort of like diablo+baldur's gate.
like this one it features 4 citys, those are Praga, vienna, new york and london.
it has 3 endings, and the first half is in the year 1200, the second one in 1999.
the only thing bad is that since I was new to english back then (is not my main language) I didn't understand a jack of that old 13 century english xD

The speech really pulled that game together. I think one of my favorite bits of Redemption was where Pink finally dropped his facade. Ever since you met Pink, he was speaking this loutish "Low English" brogue. But after he diablerized Anton Giovanni, he dropped the accent, started speaking with a Middle Eastern accent and revealed that he was actually an Assamite--not a Brujah--before vanishing. Talk about a bait-and-switch. o.o

Redemption has to be one of my favourite games I have ever played, just because of the great story line and atmosphere. Bloodlines is also amazing. And Tremere FTW.

Actually if you went into Torpor, it's a very real possibility that you will never awaken. I think you need to be force fed blood to wake up (maybe not in requiem, but apparently in Masquerade). Just look at the mummy "hanging out" with Jack! He hasn't moved an inch!

Well, that comment and more just got derezzed, so we're okay.
I don't mind debate or disagreement, but when some ego case blows in and kicks off his worst "I know everything and you know nothing" routine, it tends to piss me off. I don't care if he's a MENSA member debating quantum theory with a stupid NASCAR junkie; I do NOT like that tone one bit, and if someone slings that attitude around anywhere I have control, I'll give him a moment to correct himself...then I'm shooting him down.
