@dkupke Yeah, I heard that they were one of the breeds that were used as 'Nanny Dogs' (basically a dog that was given to a young child to protect it on walks etc.) Pitbulls were, too. That surprises a lot of people.

@flashmoregash You obviously know nothing about bulldogs, or any breed of dog for that matter. Dogs bite people because their owners had no idea how to properly raise an animal. Ive owned dogs for over 30 years, many different types of breeds, and not once have I had an incident where they bit another person. Promise me you will never get a dog yourself. @FlashmoreGash Bulldogs are more adapt around kids [children] than adults. In a chaotic event bulldogs would protect the children first before they protect an adult....although bullies are not one of your smartest dogs they are EXTREMELY loyal!! On another note, bulldogs only look fierce and are actually very affectionate and friendly animals. Bottom line; although there is always an exception to the rule, a bulldog in this situation would not bite a child but rather protect it.

Very true- as a bully breed owner- I still wouldn't want to cross a pissed of bulldog in protection mode. Our American Bulldog loves people especially children- but when I'm not around he is VERY protective of my wife around other men- which is fine- but anyone that tried to break in and harm my family while I wasn't there, I definately don't envy them...lol... I agree- bully breeds aren't the smartest persay but I would say they are very perceptive

But i don't agree about them not being smart, he was far smarter than most other dogs i've ever met. He knew what was up.

His only bad point was the damn humping, not me or my parents, but other people.

@FlashmoreGash Not really. Dogs bite people because of their owners. Some dog owners don't even realize that they promote the biting behavior. If you teach a dog from when they are puppies that biting people is wrong (by expressing disapproval) and biting toys, ropes, training materials, etc., is correct (by showing approval), you shouldn't have any random bites down the line. My daughter at 3 would feed my dog and play in his food if she felt like it. No issues. Training is important.
