  • All the argueing about Earl Or Dukedog is because the locomotive is Both of these. They were Earls because there names that were never given so the were also known as Dukedog's because of the boiler and frames thing.

  • Good on you Joshua!

  • Oh and by the way that is not a earl...it is a duke, which collett did not design I believe.

  • I looked it up on wikpedia its a Earl, 32xx. Dukedogs are 90xx.

  • Wikipedia is not fact...people like yourselves who dont know their facts can easily edit it.

  • Do you mean Earl of Berekly mate? Thats a Dukedog, as you say a 3200. Real number 9017 of course. It is an Earl class, you are correct. In fact, its both lol. Nicknamed a Dukedog as you will know. Fancy putting bulldog frames with duke boilers lol.

  • lydham manor great love the video 5!!!

  • looks im am mistaken im sorry

  • also collett did not design the dukedog class

  • Thats what it said on Wikipedia and I am positive he did as I got a DVD saying he did.

  • @JBTEvans Belive ur DVD not Wikipedia, chances are its someone who wrote it who seems to be up his own arse.

  • love the castle class we had one run through our town last month i think

  • one thing u got wrong on this video its nt the earl class its the duke dog . because its got a blioer of a duke and the frame of a bulldog class.

  • Well thats what came up on google

  • Well i voulenteer on the bluebell railway so i would know

  • Ok, theres some kind of dispute lol. I believe that the Dukedog WAS designed by Collett. However, the Bulldog and Duke classes were not. Therefore I guess you could argue that the Dukedog wasn't due to it being a mix of the 2 older designs but, technically, Collett designed the engine.

  • hey, gd video

  • ok dude, 2 of them look like Duck and Oliver from the TTTE series. all the rest are unknown to me.

  • The 1466 class was an amazing little loco. I can recall, when working as a fireman on the Dart Valley Railway, heading a 13 coach BR Special from Buckfastleigh to Totnes on one.

  • Cool, I think they are a superb branch line loco - but 13 coaches lol!

  • True, there was a loco at the back to give us a push out of Buckfastleigh, and it is all downhill to Totnes. But we did it! My driver and I laughed at the sight it must have looked all the way down. We must have looked like a little green pimple on the front of the blue rolling stock.

  • Which loco was it?

  • Good question. We had two 14XX class locos. I think 1420, which was my regular loco.

  • Was this in presevation?

  • Yes. With the Dart Valley Railway.

They had two of the class, 1420 and I can't think of the other one. I seem to recall that 1466 was with another line, maybe even the Didcot Railway Centre.

But keep in mind, I am going back 30 years.

  • Was 1450 or 1442 the other 14xx?

  • 1450 sounds familiar

Those little 14XX tanks were amazing little locos. I can remember them when BR used to run from Totnes to Ashburton. And if I am not mistaken, didn't they have one in that glorious movie, 'The Titfield Thunderbolt.' Over the years I worked on most of the Western engines to some degree or other, and even got to fire the Flying Scotsman on its summer season in Torbay in the mid 70's, but those little tanks were always such a joy to work on.

  • So I take it you worked for Dart Rail?

  • Yes. Actually, the Dart Valley Railway and the Torbay Steam Railway. They were united then. Back in the mid 70's.

But my relationship with rail has been a long one. Was an engine cleaner/passed fireman at Newton Abbot 1960 - 61. Then Fireman at Southall 961 - 62. Dart Valley/Tirbay Steam raiway 1973 - 75. London Transport, first as a guard then driver on Bakerloo, Jubilee and Metropolitan lines.

  • So a number of jobs to do with railways then

  • The Kings are the largest and most powerfull locos on the GWR so that makes it my favourite!

  • lol, what about the work horses - panniers and praries!???

  • They're small locos mate! I prefer the bigger, more powerfull engines starting from Kings to A3s, 9Fs, BOB's and West Country classes rebuilt/unrebuilt. Theyr favourites of mine

  • 9F - Thats a work horse - but they're one of my favourites too!

  • Hence I'm a member of the 6024 Preservation Society

  • O right, so you are on 6024 and David is on 5029, good to see you boys (Ok - you are men), joining the big loco groups, I'll have to become a member of a loco when I reach your age

  • Ye Iv known 6024 since I was 5 years old and 7 years later I decide to join the society. Well I dunno if theres an age limit for a group that maintains locos you would like (apart from Dinmore Manor group which restricts anyone under 18)

  • So you became a member of 6024 went you were 12?

  • No soz 12 years later, sorry my bad! Nah at 17 I joined the society, so its comming up to 2 years now of being witht the Society

  • O, I may join later in my lifetime

  • Fair enuff, If you mighta noticed I have a loco slideshow but of the Big 4 and BR locos

  • Oooo, I'll have a look, you going to the WSR SSG?

  • Yes, Im making plans to do so, i might wanna try and get a PTS (personal track safety) so i wud get to places some people cant, might stay overnight in Somerset on the 1st weekend or 2nd depending on times.

  • Well I should be going at least once on both weekends, maybe even 3 times

  • maybe, just gotta know what celeb locos will turn up.

  • I like Hall and 56XX

  • Yeah the taffy's and the halls are great locos

  • here is a question, seeing how you know a lot about the GWR, What is the wheel arrangment of a 3031 class? and when was it introduced?

  • I don't know, these are collett locos and I have never heard of the 3031 Class - I may have if its got a name

  • Right, the 3031 class was designed by William Dean they had 7ft 8in single driving wheels. And introduced in 1894.

  • I know nothing about Dean's locos apart from the Dean Goods - that it

  • 14xx is my favorite

  • Yeah 14xx is probably my 3rd favourite GWR class after the Manors

  • hail the 14xx!

  • Hall

  • I like the 28XX. I built an O gauge model from a Slaters kit.

  • My favourite Great Western loco is the King Class.

  • Now my favorite class is the 4575 (or 55xx) Small Prairie Tank. Now I want to know whats yours?

  • Castle
