There were about three funny parts and in a movie that runs 2 hours that's pretty scarce. I'm all for Dark Comedy but I found this movie to be very dull and not very funny at all. My main gripe is that this movie has a bunch of good actors (who played their parts well) but it suffers from having pretty much no plot, it just keeps going and going and going and then stops. No rise, no climax, no fall. I was waiting for the plot of the movie to start and pretty much gave up on figuring out what it was after 30 minutes into the movie. Ag ood example of a dark comedy is American Psycho.
Um, why is it that people can't like this film unless they are lacking intellect. Dark comedy requires a certain taste for it, and it's not for everyone. So it's understandable that some people wouldn't enjoy watching this movie. I personally enjoyed watching it. It's one favorite movies of this year, but I have a few friends who thought it was terrible and just didn't the style of the movie. It's not because I'm intellectually superior, it just means we have different taste in comedy

You really have to have some sort of (how do I say this without pissing someone of) Intellect to actually see the comedy behind the film. I mean this isn't a 40-year old virgin or Will Farrel type of comedy.
Nicely stated lol. It disappoints me when some people don't like a film because of their lack of intellect. Of course, if satire simply isn't their thing, then by all means, but this film was extremely entertaining once you realized what the style of it was.
Maybe some people just thought it lacked in quality in the genre. People have different experiences in life so what may surprise one person, may not another. Same is true with humor.
For instance: I've seen people laugh when people see someone get robbed...as well as being shot at. Others wouldn't find this funny.
If you grew up around hookers, Pimps, drugs, and violence...you will have a better tolerance for shock and may expect something "more" to please your taste.
Seeing a dog shot for the first time: shocking. Second time: not so.
Seeing a person die in front of you: First time, somewhat shocking but more interesting to watch. Second time: just shrug your shoulders.
Dildo jokes; sex; etc. Nothing shocking unless you are 7 or didn't grow up around it.
First time you see a hooker blow somebody in an alley; yeah, shocking but interesting and funny when you are a kid. As an adult; eh...not my taste and not so funny.
Lack of intellect? You sure think of yourself highly. However, the movie is as stupid as they get...and this is from somebody with a whole lot more intellect then you'll ever have.
i LOVE satire, but I've only really enjoyed it in books and I want to try to get into it in movies. What other movies out there have really good satire or a satirical sense of humor?

For anyone who hasn't seen the movie, and is worried about all of these people saying it sucked, listen: BAR is not meant to be a constant "ha-ha" laugh out loud comedy. It's actually once the movie's over, you'll really start laughing with your friends. And if you didn't like it the first time, see it again. I guarantee you that you will like it more.

It does require a certain sense of humor, people who didn't think it was funny aren't used to "hidden" not your particular "pop humor." Look at The LadyKiller with Tom Hanks, it takes a certain type of humor to appreciate that movie. Not to insult anyone's intelligence, but some movies like this one require some thought, for me cynicism, and cult appreciation. In the end it's a cult film, like MST3k was a cult series. Requires a certain mentality (not your typical pop mentality).

There were definitely funny bits in there, but what was it all about? It got rave reviews here but I find it vastly overrated. It was enjoyable, but the movie went nowhere. I expected a "Snatch" and "Lock Stock" type clever ennding.
For me this is one of those films that will divide the populous. I loved it and reel at people who can seriously say it wasnt funny or didn't have an end. Some may not recognise the stars, within this performance but for me that is a massive plus. Brad Pitt is similar to his role in True Romance (Floyd).

I think you might enjoy the movie with Reese Witherspoon on it that's based on an Oscar Wilde play "The importance of being earnest".
I really enjoyed reading the Picture of Dorian Gray because Oscar Wilde's comments on society was all spoken through the character of Henry.
Most of O. Wilde's stuff are plays but Dorian Gray is a novel. Lots of literary imagery.

For anyone who hasn't seen the movie, and is worried about all of these people saying it sucked, listen: BAR is not meant to be a constant "ha-ha" laugh out loud comedy. It's actually once the movie's over, you'll really start laughing with your friends. And if you didn't like it the first time, see it again. I guarantee you that you will like it more.

this movie only had white ppl in it. cursing, was far worse than i had expected, wish i knew that when i went to blockbuster to rent it. i just don't think there is a need for that kind of language. peace:)

I give it an: eehh. for the smart people, it's a parody about how stupid america is, for the really smart, it's a travesty, portraying our intelligence infrastructure as a vast, omnipresent, ridiculous, monty python-esque bunch of rabble who have a major budget, but lacking the leadership required to run itself properly. it's a joke of a movie. for all viewers. the coen brothers presume that we'll take this as propoganda that our leaders are morons. we should not fall for that.

It does require a certain sense of humor, people who didn't think it was funny aren't used to "hidden" not your particular "pop humor." Look at The LadyKiller with Tom Hanks, it takes a certain type of humor to appreciate that movie. Not to insult anyone's intelligence, but some movies like this one require some thought, for me cynicism, and cult appreciation. In the end it's a cult film, like MST3k was a cult series. Requires a certain mentality (not your typical pop mentality).

Yeah this movie was BRILLIANT!! it was very different, and was extremely entertaining for the right reasons brad pitt characater was awesome, the movie, in every scene it ended very unexpected which i like!!:D

What the hell!? this movie was fantastic!? and the ending was super good too! everyone is soo used to movies ending in a certain way. this movie was great because it ended when you DIDN'T expect it..who wants to see a movie when they know what the ending should be? Very very funny for people who like quirky. i definatly thought it matched snatch and lock stock in its funny ironic ending. i was one of the few who laughed all the way through though.

There were definitely funny bits in there, but what was it all about? It got rave reviews here but I find it vastly overrated. It was enjoyable, but the movie went nowhere. I expected a "Snatch" and "Lock Stock" type clever ennding.

For me this is one of those films that will divide the populous. I loved it and reel at people who can seriously say it wasnt funny or didn't have an end. Some may not recognise the stars, within this performance but for me that is a massive plus. Brad Pitt is similar to his role in True Romance (Floyd).
