A wind sock wouldn't have hurt. Neither would a shotgun mic. OK footage at best, nothing to be proud of though. Poor sharpness and not that well exposed.
Way to go, go462. A beautifully steady and well composed view of the launch here last Sunday. Great camera work. And with the south wind at your back, a low ambient noise level too. Sweet.
By the way, your super short Delta2/Themis video on here has long been a big favorite of mine. I've used it to convince several friends to come over to the beach at odd hours for some of the great NON-SHUTTLE launches that still take place from the Air Force Station. THANKS!
Actually, buckeye, the launch took place 17 miles north of the camera and the shuttle then flew steadily away to the northeast (up the East Coast and toward Europe). However, go462 skillfully zoomed into the shuttle after two minutes or so of flight to show the burned out solid rocket boosters falling away toward the sea. By that time the shuttle (visible as a bright light higher up) was something like sixty miles from his camera...!
My spring break lover and I were walking on the beach waiting for the sun to go down so we could sneak into a hot tub at a hotel (south FL) when we got to see this amazing sight together while hanging out on the beach...I was speechless it was such a surprise to me and the moment was perfect. I never imagined I'd be so lucky to be in the right place at the right time like that... :) Happy SB everyone and best of luck to those brave astronauts in Discovery!!
Soyuz intercepts and destroys space shuttle with Bisnovat R-4 missile at 3:17.

Where on Merritt Island was this view point?
I am looking for a less crowded spot to watch a launch but still see it up close
thanks

Какой приятный голос однако... Прям успокаивает. Интересно,если,не дай бог, неисправность будет обнаружена в полете, то как она будет говорить?

Wow, Poly. Tough critic. :[ We'll be sure to look for your spectacular video of the next launch...

I won't bother. Nasa already has the best in technology and provides the best footage. I'll take what they give me. May as well, I'm paying for it.

The night launches are the best... this is one of the many things I miss about the Space Coast...
