Here's the thing, even in the most liberal schools like the one I went to (Stanford Undergrad), Social Security is framed as a well intentioned but unsustainable model. Problem is that most of the changes needed are unpopular (raising the retirement age being a primary one). People don't understand the numbers involved, have opinions of the system as if they think its only a moral question, and then criticize those who want to change it to make sure that it succeeds. Ignorance and fear.
we need these re-run as democraatic party t.v. commercials. the republican party will laugh but to those who remember a day when this was a reality. government pulled many hundreds of thoushands or millions of ameriscans out of poverty and hopelessness. no one remembers how old people had to rely solely on their children for their keep. wake up america!! this is the duty of gov. to protect the least of theiir citizens and promte success in life with duty to others who can'r do for themselves.
The day that the American people are ever talked into the privatization of social security by the Republicans is the day we will see the elderly, crippled and parentless kids on the street!!! The youth of America has no idea how important this program is. By the way... I work ever day and have never collected off of the program, but I dont know what tomorrow holds and I might need it , so I want it there.
@WorldTurnBlack Maybe you need to have a objective fact; with such a convoluted statement. Any true christian or other positive person would understand the moral need and social understanding; of why our social programs are so underfunded! (This is an opinion not a fact just in FYI) To share a objective fact; you have to back it up with sometime.. from the Last Democrat

Sorry -- the music was disturbing - i imagine the object was to have it relate to the younger generation.

@videorizing Yeah, the music ruined the great effect FDR gave off.

Why the heavy handed editing?

In an economic crisis worse than the 1930's, yes.
