And hey, twenty years out Legs Akimbo sounds every bit the quirky misfit toy, and unapologetically personal mini-manifesto that it did two decades ago when Ken's head graced the cover of the Guitar Player Magazine in Flea's crotch like a cut out letter in a ransom note against normality and Legs Akimbo was pressed to a plastic flexi-disk that would send fellow contestants and interested bystanders lurching for their turntables fearing some alarming defect......and what could be better than that?
When Lanthimos' Dogtooth was recently nominated for an Academy Award it seemed slightly less probable than winning the lottery without buying a ticket! But once upon a time something even more improbable happened when Ken Rubenstein won GP’s 1991 soundpage competition with a piece so utterly disorienting and massively confounding given the forum that it eventually ushered in a new and notably tepid editorial staff. So thanks to Ken, Joe Gore and whoever else let this genie out of the bottle!
