I wish success for Michael Connelly, but I hope they never make a Harry Bosch film, because they'll never get the character right. They'll likely get Leonardo DiCaprio to play Harry Bosch, when in my mind, he's Dan Hedaya.
Just finished this book (again). And looked up the Hightower on google streetview because i'm a nosey bugger. Its nice to see the apartment as it actually is, though i pictured a lot more upmarket in my head to be honest. I'm re-reading Lost Light now. I'm on a bit of a Bosch kick at the minute. I picture Bosch as a sort of chubbier & slightly younger Harry Dean Stanton.
Hmmm. ... the Harry Bosch I imagined looks much more like Harry Bosch than this one ;-)
I like his caracter a lot! Also his name; he his named after art painter Hyronimus Bosch and I live in the city where he was born. In one of Connelly's book he writes about Bosch wondering what the city looks like where the painter was born. Well, google on 's-Hertogenbosch and you will know!
BTW: what a beautiful apartment! I wish I could live there!
I could see a rough Tom Selleck type of actor in this role.
I have read all of Connelly books except the new one Dragons. My absolute favorite writer. I also can't wait for any movie series that could come but a tv series would give me more to watch. John.
Like the fact that someone put this together, but I agree with previous comments, that Bosch should be older, grumpier, and more rumpled. This guy is to young to be Bosch.
This is Bosch in 1993. Tim Abell, the actor playing Bosch, is either exactly the same age as Bosch in 1993, or a year older than Bosch. I forget which at this time. (It's been a few years since we made this.)
Thanks for the update. Either way I look forward to any movies that would involve his character as the lead. I think Connelly has developed a great role in Bosch....
this is great.. however.. i got from the books that edgar was younger than harry, as he mentions that harry was someone he looked up to... and bosch looks a little less disheveled than i imagined him to be!!! thanks for posting!!!!
The Bosch series are one of the best crime books ever!! I read this book 3 weeks ago,i just finished Black Echo yesterday and thought it was brilliant, especially the twists (not givin it away tho). Micheal Connolly is very precise with everthing down to the smallest detail
Michael is a very talented writer, multi-faceted and knows his stuff very well. He's very famous in this part of the world (Middle East) amongst novel reading folks.
I bought the book today and got hooked instantly!
Harry Bosch novels are the only reason i read.. Im a college student at morehead state university and connelly is the only writer that i can sit down and read over and over again. i cant wait for the movies
I want to see the WHOLE movie!Very well played: Edgar everything I imagined him to be. Harry - I expect him to be a bit skinnier, and on edge, and less goodlooking. I'd never would want a 'known' actor to play Harry none would be able to be 'him' in my head. I'm addicted to Harry. I am certain there is Dutch blood in his ancestery..hahaha! TerrillLee: please make me happy, and make the WHOLE movie!
This is really excellent, with the exception that the actor playing Harry Bosch seems wrong, too young, too wholesome and well fed looking. Bosch is a character that is driven. He needs to look lean and hungry and like he doesn't get enough sleep.
Michael Connelly's books are great, can't wait until films start actually start appearing.
Have you read Echo Park? This is the first scene in the book. It's a recount of a crime that happened in 1994 I believe. It had been 12 years and Harry never was able to solve it. So he'd been in his early to mid thirties then. I also think the actor is a good representation of Harry. He's handsome and I figure Harry is handsome, considering the number of women who goes for him.
Nice job, while I wouldn't say that's a definitive Harry Bosch for me it's certainly a good try. Made me think that Tom Berenger would make a good Bosch.
Chris is right, all of MC's books are excellent. Just make sure you don't have anything else important to do, because you won't be able to put the book down.
Someone posted a reminder yesterday that this scene takes place in 1993 and Bosch is younger here than he is in the current storylines. I deleted your post by accident and will approve it if you repost. Sorry for the mistake.
As far as this Harry being too large to have been a tunnel rat back in the early seventies goes - I can only assume Harry hit the pizza pretty hard when he got back to the states.
Hey, you're right, he is a little big for a TR. Too bad Robert Blake is older, he would be about the right size and have the right attitude. Whadda' ya' think!?
Awfully young looking, too. I'd expect a war-seasoned cop with as much experience as Bosch, aged in his late fifties to look much older and much more time-worn.
Otherwise a very, very nice job, though. I really enjoyed watching it just before I started the book.
This is the first book by Michael Connelly that I have read. I, too , envisioned him "older looking" and not so "trim". But after a few minutes into the video I could accept this actor as the character. I am currently reading VOID MOON. Not quite my type of storyline but can't put it down. Can anyone suggest other books by him and why you recommend them? Thanks.
Terry do you think that I can get all the videos from the books and how, I willing to pay for it. Thanks.

Man of man, what a great TV series this would be! PBS of course, no commercials, straight thru, like I read MC's books! LOL

@TerrillLeeLankford I picture 2000s-era Bosch as being played by Liam Neeson, as in "Taken".

Dude, I was thinking the same thing! The way how they're both a little hot headed, the way how they dislike lawyers and they're in their 50s.
When i become a movimaker, i will make some movies based on the books and Noth is my numba 1 choice.

I don't know why but I always pictured him something between Nock Nolte and Tom Berenger.
This guy in this video looks like Tom Berenger, that's OK :)

Video is nice, but they don't reach the high level of Connelly's books. He is one of the best novelest of the day.
