Waaiit... you remove the screws and then u can remove the cover?! WTF?! i thought u remove the cover, THEN you remove the screws?! man you saved my life right there! (sarcasm; all you did was removing 4 screws and splitting the cover apart. Like wtf??).. PS: that is the way you do it if you wanna short out the circuitboard.. be pr0, wear an anti-static bracelet next time.

when you take it apart is the speaker supposed to fall out?

yeah, it doesn't matter. when you put it back together, all the buttons, the speaker, and the rubber bits all go into the top part, then you snap the bottom on.

Thanks. I was afraid to open it up because it felt like it was gonna snap at top. Just wanted to make sure there were no hidden screws i missed. Looks like it just needs a bit of gentle force. I guess that's an oxymoron, but oh well.

harbor frieght has a tri wing screw driver its in a yellow box with other tips

had the very same problem, solved it with a stanley precision screwdriver, (the smallest of a pack of 6), make sure it´s the flat-pointed. Just fixed a non-working wiimote :) hope this helps u!

I have the same batteries as you do on my wiimote, Wow.

BTW, Its easy to remove the screw with a Flat if its small enough and put in the right place. I removed all the screws without any problems.

yeah I did that but eventually the Flathead broke doing that on a tri-wing screw and i couldn't use it for those anymore
