Joel used to visit and sometimes help out in my fathers sports shop in Swinton, Manchester Uk. Such a nice guy. I think it was when he was at Littleborough CC.
Joel was a nightmare. Once Andy Roberts and Michael Holding had finished with you it would be Garner and Croft. Nowhere to hide. Garner is easily the best one day bowler I've seen.
One has to say facing Westindian attack of those times without helmet shows the confidence of little man n command on his cricket.
As for Garner it doesnt surprise me. They always have kept superiority than any others in the discipline of line n length. holding, marshal one can just go on. sadly the the pleasure of watching Westindian test bowling finished with Walsh n Ambrose saga.
W.Indies n Pakistan 2 only kilns of real fast test bowlers burning their talents in politics

It wasn't tougher, it was stupid, Definitely a lot slower than these days.
I hate it when people say oh past players were so much better etc. etc. Today's players are much better than ancient players. There's more technique, science in today's matches. Tahts why you can score 300+ runs in a one dayer
Show me a modern batsman that can score as fast as Compton or Woolley then. 300 runs in a one dayer? Those gus scored 300 themselves in about a bit over 3 hours. On uncovered wickets. And dont even get me started on Jessop or Trumper.
Have a look at the record for most runs in a day in Tests. The only modern player in the top ten is Sehwag.
And please feel free to name a modern batsman that would claim he has a better technique than Jack Hobbs.
most of the time with Garner it was your toes that were in danger, his stock ball was the yorker and I have to say I don't think I've seen anyone use the yorker to better effect in tests or one dayers. Garner left the bouncers to Holding, Roberts, Marshall, Clarke most of the time

Practically unplayable
Would love to see how the greats would have faced up against him - Bradman, Tendulkar, Lara, Richards (both B.A. and I.V.!) and everyone else!
Maybe in the next life.
Top quality vid, mate
