It hurts to know that Us cowboys helped shape this country so much, yet some people don't respect Us, they don't see how important We really are. But every breath I take WILL be free, and no one is gonna change that. No one is gonna take from me what is mine. God Bless America, and Long Live the American Cowboy

Both of those represent the slaughtering of natives in the name of equality. Enslaving Africans in the name of equality. Study up on history. Great song, though.
I don't think the slaughtering of natives was done in the name of equality. It was done because of selfishness, greed, hatred and prejudice. Yet I think it's important to remember that the qualities I refer to were not possessed by all who wore the hat or all who flew the flag. There were some who had a sense of honor and propriety and justice and would never have stooped to such base and vile actions. I believe that it is to these honorable, strong individuals that Mr. Blanz refers in his song.
Also, we do not have any historical records of those who occupied these lands prior to the arrival of the Europeans. They were only the last in a long line of thieves stealing from thieves. Maybe you should read beyond the simplistic, revisionist texts that were presented to us in school and realize that all human beings in all of history have committed these acts from a position of power and advantage. Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. (Acton, April of 1887)
@timoteoharvey The cowboy is not the last of the theives stealing from thieves, the developer, the misquided enviromentalist, policitians, energy companies all are now jumping in the fray.
I could probably think up something rude or crude to say about you, martinluckybramah, but my mama raised me to be polite and respectful, especially in public. Maybe you should apply the Thumper (from Bambi) rule here - If you don't have something nice to say, don't say nothing at all.
I wouldn't wear the hat either, but he likes it and it expresses part of who he is. Why can't you respect that?
Hey Donnie it is your cousin Chris. What a wonderful song. I really wasn't sure what Western Americana was all about but all I can say is WOW! This song is really a great country tune and definitely shows a lot about ranching and the west. Great job and keep it up, can't wait to come see you perform sometime I am not very far from ya so hopefully I can bring up the family and watch you. Hope to talk to ya soon.
We play a few of your songs on our station (KRRM 94.7FM) both by you & by others. I love your version of this tune better than others I've heard --- I can hear the passion. Keep writing - and keep singing. Please let me know if you ever head out Oregon way.

Isn't it amazing how brave some people are to say things like this on here instead of to the cowboy's face?
