  • never got to see them live...and it just about kills me. :(

  • John Popper (Blues Traveler) did a great job accompanying them on the harmonica....

  • I don't understand why Ed has to be so much in the forefront of the band. I loved it much better when they were writing their songs together and they were all equal.

  • how do u know tht

  • Know what? Who wrote the songs? if that's your question, well, read the credits on the albums!

Since the last three, Ed is the only songwriter and composer on almost all the songs.

And if you look at the CDs, you can see him more and more in the foreground, while the rest are behind him...it wasn't like that before...

  • Ironically, this song (the music) wasn't only written by Ed. It's also by Chad T.

  • Well, I must admit it sounds better than the last two albums. It reminds me of the V album which was the last I liked from Live.

I'm always there when they come to Montreal, and the crowds get smaller and smaller, which is a sign in my opinion, that I'm not the only one with this opinion.

I still miss the atmosphere from Throwing Copper, Secret Samhadi, and even their fist album. You know, that mystical mood, with a bit of melancoly mixed with rage. The song Dolphin's Cry had it too.

  • The Distance to Here was an amazing albulm, oh i miss those days.

  • Most def., TDTH is their best album, a gem. I like TDTH and Mental Jewelry, the most, of all their cds. I've stopped buying any of their stuff, because, since TDTH, it always tends to be crap, I'm sorry to say.

  • buddy, it's not all crap, it's just that Live have to now compete with the crap that all the dweebs listen to today. It's not the 90s or the early 00's now, (sadly). It is true though, that they they need to go back to the Throwing Copper/ Secret Samahdi days and style of rock or else Live is gonna drown like so many other, genuinely good bands have...it's a shame really.

  • The new DVD, LIVE at the Paridiso is actually quite good. A lot of work went into it. I highly recommend u get that at least. Esp since it's cheap do to the economy. Only cost me 10.00 and that was in L.A. It's a beautiful old Church in Europe, they have the best churches there. U feel like u were there. Go get it!

  • I'll get it, because I'm still hopeful they'll wake up and put out a super album.

  • I agree, Ed's not angry enough these days. I liked him better when he was angry too. There's a lot more to be angry about these days too. People need a hero. He might change, every album is different. I think the last 3 were remarkably better than Birds of Pray and each one is better than the last. Don't give up on him. He's only human too.

  • I'm pretty sure the fact that they now have family lives, more money than at the beginning, so it obviously soften people.

But I agree there's far more things to sing about and be angry than in the '90s... which is quite ironic when you think of it. Grunge was some kind of rebellion against nothing in particular, and now, with all that happens since 2001, the music scene is much calmer and commercial. Not much rebellion.

  • dont forget rage the nightwatchman and one day as a lion man they breathe rebellion

  • I thought that riff sounded like Chad T. I read somewhere Ed say that he "can't strum" or something. Thanks for sharing that bit of knowledge, I didn't know for sure.

  • Ed has always been way in the forefront. I think the rest of the band used to "help" but he did most of it always.

  • Forefront is one thing, but look at the songs credits on the best of their albums. It was more of a team work than now.

There was also a dark side to it that has been lost. The arrangements were simpler and less "processed".

I have every album they have put out, but I must admit I don't listen much to what came after Secret Samahdi. Throwing Copper and Secret Samahdi were such good albums, I never get tired of listening to those two. The Distance to Here was good, but uneven IMO.

  • I think a lot of people are afraid to speak out against what has happened. Like they don't want to offend the troops who are dying and loosing limbs. However what they don't seem to get is it is all in the name of greed and coruption. I really admire Green Day for standing up. That's why American Idiot was one of their biggest albums. As long as you don't threaten the President's life, you can say what you want. Even w/ the censor. Obama is awesome but that doesn't change all the damage done.

  • well... I will limit myself on the subject, but what really is typical in your way of seeing things, and I don't blame you, it's what the media and the official propaganda want you to think, is that it's always the troops. But what about ONE FREAKING MILLIONS IRAQI CIVILIANS DEAD? As if their life is not worth mentioning...but an american soldier losing limbs is traumatic and sufficient to shut up about this illegal war? Twisted logic man..

  • U're right. It's very blind and insensitive of us and we seem to think we care but obviously not enough. It's awful that so many Iraqi civilians are dead and not even the good people seem to care. I'll try to do better.

  • I like Mental Jewlery the best. One of the few cd's I have that I can still listen to start to finish.

  • hey it's your right to love whatever you want. I prefer Throwing Copper and Secret Samahdi much better. They really move me. Their intensity was really unique.

  • gyyyd
