  • what a true poet. his ability to tell a story that can touch such a wide variety of fans is impeccable. Thanks to my Dad, I've had the privilege of listening to this legend for 27 years!

  • Tom can do no wrong. What a real talent. LOVE

  • my fiancee played this for me when we firsted started dating, it touched my heart, the lyrics hit clear to the soul.... he's in the army so alot of lyrics fly back in forth between us just expressing how much we love each other, Im usually good at getting him with the songs but he sure won that roud with this one!

Great song! I love Tom Petty I grew up on his music my mom loved "free falling"......

  • To:boognish86-This album is hard to find, if you notice Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are always around when you need them. Radio or not you know this song came to you, not you to it.

  • My favorite Petty song-just beautiful!!

  • The perfect song

  • This song makes me wanna hold my kids.

  • Who's the bass player?

  • @steffkh... In this video it is Howie Epstein. He has since passed on. Ron Blair is currently playing bass for TP. :)

  • to my daughter :) i love you so much baby girl :)

  • Echos... One The very best Tom Petty records.

Man That guy is a poet!

  • @squierghia74

This originally appeared on the "She's The One" soundtrack, I believe. A true gem.

  • @tnboltsfan56 Yep, that's the film. Unfortunately, a bunch of unhappy coincidences let one of Petty's best albums fly under the radar: it was released a few years too late for any tracks to appear on Greatest Hits, it was a soundtrack album rather than a standalone release, and the movie to which it was attached was considered a critical disappointment (the worst thing that ever happened to Edward Burns' directing career was making The Brothers McMullen first). Aaanyhoo, gorgeous song :)

  • Sweet !!! Petty is great

  • Simply brilliant. No words.

  • Agreed, one of the greatest songs ever.

  • very touching

  • This song always gives me goosebumps. Dana's one lucky lady.

  • I read in the book "Conversations With Tom Petty" that he wrote this song for his 2nd wife Dana. When they first met they were both married. They got together years later after they were both divorced. Its so beautiful it almost aches to listen to it.

  • Ditto, boognish86. This song is my heart.

  • oh Silent Bob is making an appearance in the end of this video of a great performance of a great song .

  • just perfect

  • Just another Great song fro Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers!!!!!

  • What an incredibly gorgeous song. I don't know if many Petty fans pay attention to this one but I think it should be listened to more. It just makes me feel very peaceful inside. Beautiful melody and words.

  • Tom Petty is a songwriter who will be remembered ,in future centuiries, like Beethoven & Mozart are remembered now. A truly beautiful song that touches the soul. Thanks Tom

  • How beautiful

  • I can only thank god it was not too late!!

  • woohoo first comment awesome singer song writer

  • This is just "such" a beautiful song. I love how Petty starts out laughing. It's nice to see him so unguarded. The melody and harmony in this song is amazing. And the guitars, etc. Sadly Howie was so ill by that point and you could see it. He had such sad eyes. But life goes on.

  • AWESOME

  • i can only pray that he'd play this song at a show this year. Summerfest!!

  • Filmore... hmm. "respect the classics, man"

  • His music makes me want to cry sometimes,,,so beautiful.

  • This seem a little faster than the other times I've heard him sing it, still a truly beautiful song

  • @floydthatcrazylass Petty has been quoted as saying that when you perform songs live at a concert, you have to play them faster to get them all in. This was live, so probably what happened here.

  • i love you teresa l dixon

  • Anyone know why he wrote this song / what it's about? It's beautiful....

  • Great song, 5******

  • @boognish86 I agree, been one of my favorites since the first time i heard it!

  • tommy petty is one the best singers of all time along with many from his era. they dont make music they use too. thanks for the post and keep them comming.

  • Sure they make music like they used to. Same instruments and such. And, if you listen, you can find a voice in every generation. You just have to listen hard. And rarely to the radio.

  • wonderfull song brings tears to my eyes ^_^

  • miss howie

  • howie looks like shit, but I can't believe how he still sounds amazing

  • Lovely song. Thank you for sharing with me EarthsAngels.

    With love, care and kindness,

    Starry :)

  • can't believe Petty created this incredible music for that LAME Ed Burns movie. how he ever got a legend like Tom to take his phone call is a mystery.

  • wtf? where do you see bob dylan and "that guy from the rolling stones"?

  • i think he means howie and mike, lol, it's just ignorance

  • i found my ANGEL, i hope :(

  • Beautiful song. Shame about the awful people at the start doing their stupid 'woo hoos'! I hate those people.

  • amen to that!

  • @jamesstafforduk ..and Petty showed such class at that - he stayed on the intro, let them finish their whoopin' and hollerin', and acknowledged them. What a mature (and grateful) way to handle that.

  • Beautiful song, but man does Howie look bad.

  • *sighs* it's never too late Sweetheart <3

Thanks for leading me here "Lil Devil"

  • now y cant i find it on itunes?

  • "she's the one" soundtrack
